BLURF!!! :smack::smack::smack:
Busy day for a day off today…dentist, docs and PT.
I got home very late last night but at least I made it home. Still no sign of my ID so I will head to the DMV next week to get my replacement. Le sigh.
I also went grocery shopping and picked up some steals! Bone in Rib Eye steaks for $3.77 per lb - regular price $8.69…buy one get one free on pork loins and ground turkey, ground beef $1.49 a lb so I stocked up! I spent about $20 over our weekly grocery budget and saved 60% on what it would have cost and we now have a freezer full of meat and cabinets and fridge chock full of gorceries. Tonight is steak night with corn and sallit at Casa de ems!
I am just back from my PT session for the vertigo and man I feel good way better than last weeks eval. Although I am wiped out so I think a wee nappy poo is in order.
Weekend plans…hanging curtains, organising front bedroom and going to see the new Clooney movie. I promised mr ems I wouldn’t drool in public
Glad Earl only gave you all a passing glance!
New tale for y’all to snooze over…
====================================
It’s actually Tuesday, 31 August, as I start the tale of my first actual hurricane. In the seven years I’ve been in the overall Hampton Roads area, I’ve been through about ten tropical storms and about an equal amount of nor’easters. Earl will be my first 'cane.
Projections for Cottonfield County are 40 MPH winds and periods of heavy rain, to strike overnight Thursday-Friday.
Wednesday, 1 September. At noon, the situation is hurricane warnings for all the neighboring counties south and east of home that touch tidal water, but not us. Weather forecast is pretty much the same. Unknown is what will happen with the day job tomorrow.
If everything stays as projected, my plan is to sleep through the storm unless I get paged.
Thursday, 2 September: I left work at noon, taking 3 hours of leave. About 10% of the reason is directly storm related, but mostly because I wanted to go home.
I had the damnedest bad luck, too. While headed to Wally*World for some batteries on the commute home, my engine quit while driving down the road at 35 MPH just like I shut it off. And it would not start again. Yet another long holiday weekend, and I come back in a tow truck. WTF?
JD the Wrench said the engine isn’t sparking, so it’s an ignition problem of some kind. Could be cheap, or could be expensive. I won’t know until next week after he gets back from camping.
Thursday, 2 September, 10 PM. According to the news reports, it’s the apocalypse down in Hatteras. I stuck my head outside, and it’s a little breezy, but nothing is happening. I’m headed to bed, with response garb within easy reach.
Friday, 3 September, 6 AM. Loki wanted out to go pee, and this is the first that I even noticed it had rained. Winds were blowing, but we had worse in a round of severe thunderstorms a couple weeks back. For us, Earl is a fizzle and I slept through it, just as I intended.
11 AM. I went to work a wreck on the far west side of the county. Dude was lucky that he got out with just flashburns from the airbag shots; that ride could have been fatal if he had just a slightly different angle on his SUV. The rain is just about done, and the wind is calm. Bye-bye, Earl, don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
Damages we’ve heard about are the usual suspect flooding in the Outer Banks, and some beach houses need re-shingling. We got off easy.
6 PM. The sun is out, it’s hot and muggy, and I’ve unbattened our hatches. I’ll close out the tale of the Hurricane Earl non-event here. Sorry to bore y’all.
Spaz indeed, that cartoon spoke to my very soul!
BBBobbio great snoozer of a 'cane tale. Of course that’s the good kind of 'cane tale.
Ok, so I have been to the church house to <snerk> rubb butts <snerk> and ensure everything is well with ye olde biiiiiiiiiiigass smoker. I said on Tuesday that the propane tank felt a little light and I thought it’d be a good idea to get it gassed up. So, just to make sure I decided to fire up the smoker. No propane. :dubious: Good thing I checked. We now have a full 60 lb. propane tank all ready for <snerk> butt smokin’ <snerk> tomorrow. This should be a pretty good fundraiser as we expect to clear four hundred bucks. So, da bear shall be at the church house early tomorrow mornin’ and smoke away.
OYKW did good with the steaks tonight. I’m proud of him.
Apparently, Earl is a Jet Setter - he spent today in The Hamptons, and by morning, he’ll be at The Cape.
We had our annual in house quartet night last night. Check this out:
The Blue Notes sing Mood Indigo
Earl was not a hurricane worth speaking of. The ones that start with F, now those are the ones we Kakalakeans have to be worried about.
Culinary school paid off tonight. Culinary Boy came home with seven pounds of rainbow trout one of his chef instructors gave him today. Tuesday they were swimming in a river near Cherokee. Tonight four of them entered the oven and were devoured with much delight by myself, Culinary Boy, Computer Boy and Kitty. Kitty did not get a whole fish, she just got some skin and some random pieces.
I’m getting hungry. Add that to already crabby…
Don’t whiz on the electric fence!
(Sorry - been watching too many of my Ren and Stimpy DVDs0
(Damn. Now I have an earworm of the Log song)

Aaaahhhh… Dinner and pleasant conversation. Much better now.
Stopping by to keep my first MMP going.
Boyfriend is visiting, watching DVDs, trying to sneak in a little housework in between.

I have a mental picture of some young man with several pages of homework, two monkeys, and a jar of lube. It isn’t pretty but it did get rid of my earworm. :smack:

It’s better than bad, it’s good!
I labored today, I’ll labor tomorrow, I’ll be laboring for quite a few days in a row.
Rare serious moment, to plug a movie I just watched. Defiance, starring Daniel Craig. Story is about 4 Jewish brothers in Byelorussia during WWII that become partisans, and at the same time round up fellow Jews to offer sanctuary.
If you like war flicks and/or are a fan of modern history, check it out.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and all caffienated. Purtification is about to commence as I need to get on over to the church house and start with the <snerk> butt smokin’ <snerk>!
Gonna take notebook with me. I think I can get a wifi connection so’s I can entertain myself whilst watchin’ the smoker smoke.
Happy Sattidy!
Up, caffeinated, off to irk.
Up, of course, although I did get 30 more minutes than I usually get in the morning. Unfortunately, I stayed up an hour or so later… Anyway, Happy Saturday!
It’s quite cool out, so I’ve opened the house already. Daughter and I are running to WalMart for a few items, then I’m coming home to transplant some azaleas from under the doomed tree out back. It’s supposed to maybe hit 80 - I think I can dig holes in this weather.
I’m thinking of taking myself off caffeine. We’ll see how that goes…
I’m up. Boy did I have the strangest dream… I’ll tell you all about it after breakfast.
I’m at the church house and the <snerk> butts <snerk> are smokin’ away!
Oh, and I got a wifi connection. But y’all figured that out already cause y’all are smart.
Did I killded the MMP?
The <snerk> butts <snerk> have been shifted around on the smoker, so round one is done. Round two in two hours, the movin’ of some <snerk> butts <snerk> to the convection oven to finish up cookin’.
Now back to the <snerk> butts! <snerk>
I’ve got 2 dozen cuppy cakes in the oven - funfetti cake mix with white chocolate pudding, and they’ll be topped with milk chocolate frosting and sprinkles, per daughter’s request. As soon as they come out of the oven, we’re going to a fish place so **FCD **can buy… something. I don’t know. But we’ll get lunch on the way.
I stopped at the Amish farmer’s stand and got a small watermelon and a canteloup that I’m going to cut up and take tomorrow. The house is wide open - it’s gorgeous out!! And yay for no a/c!
That’s all I’ve got. Unlike a certain bear, I don’t have an obsession with butts, not even bear butts…
