I can’t wait for Firday. I don’t have to work this weekend, since my boss is damn near where he’s supposed to be, apparently for the first time ever. I still have no idea what my predecessors did all day long. Oh, well, I look fantastic in comparison. Go, me! I’m going to savor this 3 day weekend, since I’ll be working next weekend.
I had a bad night so I did the sensible thing and called in for a day off. I’m owed nearly 14hrs so I thought I might as well use some of them. It’s Firday and I have plenty of exciting things to be doing here - laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning and all that good stuff. No chance of boredom then!
Leftover mac and cheese sounds pretty good to me right about now!
My replacement debit card came yesterday! YAY! I can’t quite tell if I’m supposed to keep using the same PIN – I think so – but I’ll swing by the grocery store after work and try it then. Last night I updated all of the bills that are connected to my debit card, so that’s done. I only went two days without a card, but it was a weird feeling.
Normally I have to present a couple of slides at the weekly status meeting – which is every Firday at 8:30am and usually doesn’t end until around 10:30am – but yesterday management decided that they wanted to keep today’s meeting short, so they said that a bunch of topics wouldn’t be needed. And mine was one of 'em! So I didn’t have to get up early today! I’ll probably be able to leave a little early, too, because of the holiday. Yay for holidays.
I’ve had a bunch of ideas in my head for things to do this weekend, but I think I’m mostly just going to stay home and hang with my doggy. And do some cleaning/straightening around the house. The weather forecast is awesome (sunny and high 70s all weekend; into the 80s on Monday), so I predict much dog park attendance. But other than that, I think I’ll kind of keep to myself for the next few days (my poker game got cancelled :(). I’m sort of looking forward to it, actually.
Thanks for asking! It was…ok. No bad news, but no good news, either. Basically they still don’t know what’s going to happen. At least they’re communicating, though!
Home early - yay!! They gave us 59 minutes and I added 2 hours of credit time and left just after 11. I’m not sure if I should do something constructive or assume the knit position in front of the TV. Decisions, decisions…
MOOOOOOM it’s Labor Day Weekend. You should rest from your labors. I think. I’m pretty sure that’s what the whole Labor Day thing is about.
Got da cave spiffed. Company for lunch on Sunday so cave spiffin’ had to be done. Smoked chicken is on the menu. In a little while Ima go to the church house and <snerk> rub butts <snerk> for tomorrow’s smokeathon. Also need to get the pecan wood soakin’ as I prefer it to soak a good twelve hours at least.
Dindin tonght is steak ‘n shrimp. I am entrustin’ OYKW to grill steaks. Shrimps are already cooked as Publix kindly steamed ‘em whilst I was pickin’ up a few other items a little while ago.
Ok, we picked up the new freezer and it’s HUGE inside. However, I’m going to wait until TVMan and I can pick up a heavy duty extension cord before plugging it in. I don’t think a regular one would be too much of an issue with a relatively small non-commercial appliance like this, but the residual scorch marks are still there from my last freezer and I don’t want that to happen again!
These can’t compare with Bobbio’s stories, but here’s a few recent things from work that made me worry about the future of humanity:
Quick background - we do custom shirts and stuff, mostly for schools. As a service, we also do flyers to sell the stuff.
We had one customer that was a pain and half, nitpicking everything. We finally get them dealt with, do the flyer, print the shirts, and we’re thinking we’re good. So it comes time for them to reorder, but some of the parents aren’t happy with the shirts. Why?
Because it has the name of the city on it. And they’re worried that a bad guy will see their kid with the shirt on and know where to find them.
The holes in the logic here are too numerous to count. (I redesigned it. sigh)
A different client. Apparently any form they hand out is required to be in Spanish as well as English. So she asks us to take the order form, run it through Google Translate, and send it back to her.
GOOGLE TRANSLATE. I actually got bitchy about that and got yelled at a little, but COME ON! It’s a SCHOOL, do they not have a single teacher there who speaks Spanish?
So that’s how my last few weeks have been. Now I’m goofing off hoping the bosses don’t get back until much later.
Got the second quote - it came in $400 under the first guy’s quote, so we gave him a deposit, and they’ll call early next week to set up a date. With luck, in less than 2 weeks, it’ll all be gone. Yay!
Tuna noodle casserole for supper - it’s in the oven right now.
All we got from Earl were a few raindrops - I think 8 or 9 hit my windshield on the way in. So much for hurricane panic.
Daughter has decided she wants cupcakes for her b-day cake. That’s nice and easy - yay!
