Montreal's Sugardope 3 : llamas, goats and syrups

Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference.

I might have to take you up on that offer, but we’ll see.

Mmmmmm, sugar. I can’t wait.

Mnementh and I have a spare bed if anyone needs crash space.

You don’t have a spare bed. I expect I’ll pass out on it.

Now, now, don’t count your beers before you drink them

I had a dream last night about eating 10 pounds of bacon. I can’t wait for Sugardope!

Only ten pounds?

I’m kinda excited about this, and hopefully I will be able to go. For some reason, I have a curse then I seem to be unabel to ever attend any kind of dopefest, save for my first (and only) down in WV at JC’s place one Halloween a few years back. But I see no reason I shouldn’t be able to make it up…the weather is the only thing thast can stop me now (though it has stopped me twice before, so…)

Would it be considered bad form to being some Vermont Maple Syrup, since I can’t stand that sugar water crap you Canuks use!

Just kidding, all maple syrup is gooooooooood (as long as it’s real,) and I honestly don’t think there are any major differences, so long as the grade is the same (and while we’re on that topic, grade B is the best for jsut all around use.)

Time to get this show on the road. OK, this is a preliminary post for the events of the Dopefest.

On Friday evening (all times to be announced later on), I would suggest Italian for the supper (maybe at Da Giovanni), followed by some bar hopping (either on St-Denis street or the gay village).

For Saturday, the main event, the trip to the sugarshack for an early afternoon brunch. For the first timers a light breakfast is highly recommended. Trust me on that one. For supper, after we gorged ourselves, I would suggest Reuben for Montreal smoked meat sandwiches, followed by a visit to Vocalz to accomodate saramamalana.

And, finally, Sunday. I would recommend brunch at Chez Cora, followed, maybe if people are still able to move afterwards :D, by a visit to the Biodome.

If anybody has other suggestions, please feel free to post them in this thread or E-mail them to me (my E-mail is in my profile).

Looking forward to see everybody again and to see new faces.

Oh man. When I was at SugarDope I two years ago, I hadn’t had anything to eat before hand (which is the smart way to go, IMO). I stuffed myself until I could stuff no more.

Unfortunately, I had to drive back home that evening for a dinner with my family and some other friends of the family at an uber-awesome chinese restaurant. We had piles of food there, and of course, I had to try everything at least once.

Never before had I truly felt sick from eating so much food, but the whole next day I felt ill. Not indigestion kind of ill, but a very distinct, ‘there is too much food inside of you right now, WTF were you thinking’ kind of ill.

Just thought I’d share.

Great! I just mentioned this to my friend that I’ll be up there with and she said we can make that our official place for Saturday night. She said we usually end up there each night anyway and that the places we’d otherwise go to are right in the same area (this is only my second trip).

I’m sure as the time gets closer to the actual weekend plans will be more cement. But yay!

We please to aim…Wait a minute, something’s wrong here, let me check… Oh !!! :o I see… Do not adjust your monitor screen WE AIM To please. Sorry, for a moment there I had problems with the volume button.

Well, work schedule actually accomodates this. For once. Not knowing Montreal that well, though, I’ll either be at one of the Deltas or, thanks to the wonderful people at Marriott, the Residence Inn Westmount. I have to wait till I work on Tuesday to check out Starwood pricing (hopes against hope for the W to be available). Any Montrealers have hotel suggestions? I should also have crashable space in the room if anyone needs.

If anyone from Ottawa is interested in taking the train down, and you want to travel with moi, I can do 50% off on the train for ya (one person only, sorry, but if there’s a group, I’m willing to distribute my 75% and the companion 50% around the group to reduce overall cost). Note, however, I don’t travel cattle class on the train. Email in profile.

Well, I’ll see your train and raise you a car. Gas splitting is so much cheaper, and I know the way.

As long as you don’t mind me driving 130-140…

Well, then. How long will it take to get to Montreal, grandma?

I’m in for splitting gas.

FTR, I haven’t done Ottawa - Montreal fast, but I have done Kingston - Ottawa in 57 minutes.

I’ll update when I have cheapo hotel pricing (Montrealers, please do NOT suggest any Gouverneur property - been there, done that, never again!!!)

I dug some photos up from last sugardope… I hope I can make it, last year was awesome!

oh, all without captions… I’m running off to class and threw them up on that photo site… I’ll put some text along with it when I can find the time.

I’ll probably be there.

That’s pretty decent. I havent specifically timed Ktown to here, but I have done Toronto to Ottawa in 2:50.

Sorry for the delay (February was a very awful month for me :frowning: ). But since then, things have kind of picked up. First, I confirmed with my friend Maf that he was available to provide us with a lift for this year’s festivities. Then I made the reservations :

Friday the 18th, for supper, at Da Giovanni’s, 572 Ste-Catherine East (right in front of the Berri-UQAM metro) for 8 PM (no reservations needed, we are just after their rush hour )

Saturday the 19th at la cabane à sucre l’Hermine , 212 Rg St Charles, Havelock, for 2 30 PM (bring your appetites). And for later on, after we are back in Montreal, I made reservations at 7 30 PM at Reubens, located at 1116 Ste-Catherine West (near Peel), after that we all take a walk to Vocalz, 1421 Crescent.

If anybody else is interested or (Og forbid !) has to cancel, please let me know so that I can adjust the reservations accordingly. Thank you.

Of course you don’t need me to be at Vocalz right when you get there, but what time do you anticipate getting there so I know? Thanks!
