Yes, I have webtv+, (hey, stop that snickering!) does anyone else? I’d be interested to know. It’s been a long time since I asked that question, and the membership has mushroomed since then.
So, I’ve been logged out on 5/8,5/18,5/22,5/25,5/30,and quite a few times before I started keeping track. I’d like to know whether or not that’s common for other webtv users, or anyone really.
Yes, I’ve checked the UCP and all the cookies are (I believe) set up correctly. Yes, I read the logout chronicles.
It wouldn’t be so bad except every time it happens I have to delete all my cookies which means I lose my passwords, etc., to other sites, so I have to re-login to them as well. It’s becoming very intercoursing TIRING!
Anyone have any ideas? I’ll even consider advice from mods or admins at this point. Oh, the ignominy…
Woof, talk about shunning! Well, I’ll give this one little bunt and if nothing happens, I’ll be found dead with a mouthful of worms.
Then you hateful monsters will be sorry!
:: Turns away sobbing, and starts to look through the yellow pages for bait shops ::
Exactly which browser are you using? If you post that, perhaps someone can suggest to you how to delete the straight dope cookies without deleting all your other cookies.
She said what browser. WebTV. I’m not familiar enough with it be very helpful, but maybe this WebTV FAQ will give you some information.
I dunno what happened.I posted a thank you to Arnold and Q.E.D., and I thought it went through, but…
Well,thanks again.
I’ll also reiterate the sentence that I found at the bottom of a webtv FAQ about cookies. I’d missed it before.
“It isn’t possible to delete individual cookies”.
Ptoo! And a merry “up yours”, webtv.
So with webtv you only have one choice of “browser” then?
Here is one suggestion from vBulletin - though it seems strange to me: in your profile, try setting ‘Browse the board with Cookies’ to ‘No’ (though usually we recommend yes.) If you have problems changing that setting I can change it for you. That may or may not correct the problem. If it makes the problem worse we can change it back to ‘Yes’.
Yeah, WebTV is awful, but if you can’t afford a computer, it gets you online. Web designers hate it, because nearly everything about it’s browser is nonstandard. It barfs on frames, won’t render colors correctly and I think (thought I’m not certain) that it cannot run javascript. You have no control over your own cookies, since they are stored remotely, along with everything else. The WebTV box is mostly just an interface, with no software inside. I’d recommend to the OP to look around for an older Pentium 2 or 3 system. If you play your cards right, you can pick up one of these older, but perfectly satisfactory systems, for only slightly more than the WebTV box. All the WebTV users I’ve ever known who have switched to a real computer all swear they’d never go back.
Yeah Arnold, it sounds screwy to me too, but I’m off to UCP to change the Browse-board-cookies button to “NO”.
