They always say they are military, or at least make vague statements that will be interpreted that way. They always do that thing where they act like they are in control (“You bore me. I’m training you. Blah blah blah”) and they are obsessed with hyper-masculinity. It’s such a weird sub-set of douchebag.
Also, he thinks he’s winning. These guys have no concept of what a debate is. He doesn’t actually know what a ‘cite’ is; I mean, I think he kind of has an idea from context, but he doesn’t really know. He comes from the “If-I-Talk-Louder-And-Insult-Your-Masculinity-I-Win” school of debate.
The last one I knew personally was overweight, balding, and claimed to be an “entrepreneur” when in reality he was night manager at Pizza Hut. He was also proud to call himself a Dittohead. He would pontificate on politics (whatever he’d heard on Rush that day) and if you replied in any way that wasn’t total agreement, he would repeat what he said, but LOUDER. Then he would smile condescendingly and call you ‘sweetie’ or ‘son’ (not ‘boy’; that has racial connotations in the South). It was fun sometimes to work him up, but it got old.
Anyway, it’s kind of nice to see another. Gives me a bit of nostalgia…
