More Muslim Marvelousnous

No, I’m okay with you guys getting as good as you give.

Besides, Islam is not a race. How come the general tenor of this board is to detest, hate and revile the character and intelligence of conservatives, Christians and Tea Partiers en masse for such transgressions as disbelief in AGW, resistance to government health care, and not personally being in favor of gay marriage, but when it comes to a religion or part of the world where women can’t freely leave their houses, have to enshoud themselves in what are basically tents, get shot, stabbed and run over with automobiles by their fathers and brothers for not behaving in a sufficiently Islamic manner, get whipped to death for being raped and stoned or hung for what would be minor offenses in any civilized part of the world, and whose adherents are bombing innocent men, women and children in virtually every corner of the globe…well, then we’re excoriated for “racism” and told that it’s only the individual miscreants and “extremists” who are the bad people.

Can somebody please explain to me whey this is? Certainly not every Christian is a gay-hating asshole, and not every conservative is stupid and/or evil and desirous of seeing people dying in the streets for lack of food stamps and government health care, and not every Tea Partier spells “moron” as “moran”. So how come it’s okay to generalize about members of your own country simply for having different political beliefs and concerns than you do, but not about a religion that is inflicting misery, torture and death upon not only its own populace but upon innocent people all over the globe as well?

Can somebody enlighten me please, as this does not compute.

Because it’s not the religion, numbnuts, it’s the people using the religion to further idiotic goals and this holds true for Islam and Christianity. If you want to decry the wife-beating and sexism and general assholery of places like Saudi Arabia, I will be right there with you. If you are going to use those behaviors to slam Islam, I’m going to sidle away from you because I understand nuance. You’re more than welcome on my side of the street once you get it, too.

What the hell are you referring to specifically? I’m not psychic you know!

And, finally, Islam is also responsible for liberal hypocrisy, and the merciless persecution of conservatives on the SDMB.

Oh, that’s OK. Everybody else got it.

Inner Stickler babbled on:

So explain why in 16,799 acts of terror, all of them chose to endorse Islam as their reason for doing so, as opposed to Christianity, Buddhism, Satanism, whatever.

Why is that? Why is so much terror committed by Muslims than by all other religions combined? What is it about Islam that attracts such a disproportionate number of homicidal maniacs? Maybe it’s the ideology itself. Duh!

You failed.
(see what I did there?)

Why should I believe you when you say there were 16,799 acts of terror committed by muslims? Did you count them all yourself? Have you read the Koran? Do you have a even a tenuous grasp of the politics of the Middle East and the US’s foreign policy in regards to that area? These are all questions which will, on ponderance, reveal answers to your questions. Not that I expect you to do so. It’s not like Islam has some sort of stranglehold on genocide, or have you never cracked a history book?

Inner Stickler babbles:

Here, go to this website:

And try disputing them. That’s my source.

Have read the Koran, Hadith, and Sunnas. Ugh. Talk about time spent in hell. Any other questions wise-ass?

You don’t seem to understand. The question is why is it okay around here to generalize and hate Christians, conservatives and Tea Partiers but not to generalize about Muslims and Islam, especially given that their transgressions within it are so much worse?

In other words, it’s about the hypocrisy, stupid.

Yawn. The attacks are unsourced and the website is badly designed to boot. But you have fun being all crankypants about Obama’s birth certificate. I’m sure this will be a fruitful endeavor that will win you many friends.

There are actually some intelligent christians, though. However, if you said evangelical christians, conservatives and Tea Partiers, it’s totes ok because they are dumb and mockworthy. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t be evangelical christians, conservatives and tea partiers.

Oh, so you just read the entire site in half a minute? You’re so full of shit. You just can’t handle the facts or the truth. Intellectual coward. Go refute it or shut the fuck up.

I didn’t ask you to demonstrate the generalizations and the double standard I’m talking about, I’m asking why it exists. In other words, how can you people, with a straight face, generalize about Christians, conservatives and Tea Partiers and at the same time condemn people for generalizing about Muslims?

Amazing. There’s not a word of truth in this entire post.

Oh, wait, yes there is. You did say “liberal hypocrisy.”

Le crickets, zey chirp.

Apparently “liberal hypocrisy” is such an important staple of far right culture that it has become one word. Blame my English 101 classes, I would have thought that qualified as two words.
Well, maybe maths class start next year. We wouldnt want to clutter our brains with too much stuff, it impairs bias, sorry, reasoning.

I didn’t say liberal hypocrisy was one word, I posted them both as true words.

But speaking of bias and impaired reasoning, would you care to take a shot at justifying why it’s okay to generalize condemnation and hatred toward conservatives while at the same time excoriating generalized condemnation of Muslims, many of whose transgressions are worse than those attributed to conservatives by several orders of magnitude? No one else seems to have been able to, but since you’re apparently such a brain and all maybe you can explain how it’s justified.

Or do you think the more important topic is whether I fucked up by calling two words one word?

No, I only focus on the important points, like you trying to go for wit and completely failing at it.
IF I was looking for an intelligent conversation, I would rather do it outside of the Pit and with people posessing both a semblance of knowledge and some intellectual honesty. You dont qualify.

Just a few points (and I’m not dredging back through 18 pages to find out who said what):

  1. Mormons do not have baptismal rites for corpses. The Mormon baptisms for the dead are conducted with a real, live human being standing in for the departed–no corpses involved. The only rites Mormons have for corpses are funerals.

  2. I did get a kick out of magellan seeming to admit that he has far less than 1/64th of a brain.

  3. I guess I’m lucky I’m still alive, what with all the Muslims I’ve encountered in my life. Let’s see…there were a few Muslims in my Basic Training company and they were trusted with actual weapons around non-Muslims. Then there were a few Mulims Sailors on my first ship, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier at that, and they were trusted with actual weapons around non-Muslims. Then there were a few Muslim Sailors on my second ship and they were trusted with actual weapons around non-Muslims. And I’ve visited predominantly Muslims countries a few times, to wit: Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates, and had no problems at all. I’ll skip all the other times and places I’ve encountered Muslims, worked with Muslims, studied with Muslims, etc. just to rocket this to today. I took a 3 1/2 hour train ride with two Muslims. And none of the people in any of those cases tried to kill me.

  4. Look, there are approximately one billion Muslims on Planet Earth. If the religion really did require them to kill all non-Muslims, then there would alread be no Muslims at all in many countries, especially countries like Lebanon and Iraq, which have significant Christian communities.

Wit? Going for wit? I merely stated the obvious. You know, about the board’s liberal hypocrisy…the subject you don’t want to address.

And may I suggest that if you’re going to go looking for intelligent conversation outside the Pit, you’ll be fortunate if the intelligent people you find there will allow you to join in.

So, given that you, even though you showed up in the thread, have stated you too are unwilling to attempt to justify the board’s double standard regarding liberal broad brush criticism of conservatives vs. its condemnation of conservative broad brush criticism of Muslims, it looks like the score still remains at: SA, 1; Liberal hypocrits, 0.
