Most Despised/Loved Cartoon Character

Since the Peggy Hill thread got me thinking…
Despise

  1. Bart Simpson
He has his moments but I find him mostly annoying and the perfect example of why I dislike children so much.

  2. Mr.Waternoose
    Bad, bad monster

  3. Powerpuff Girls
Why do they always look so angry?

  4. Pokemon (any of them)
I simply do not understand kids’ toons these days.

  5. Lilo
Great toon but something about this kid annoys me

Love

  1. Sid The Sloth
The reason why I still love toons at 30

  2. Homer
    Greatest toon character ever

  3. Foghorn Leghorn
laid the foundation for my insulting, crude personality

  4. Kronk from Emperor’s New Groove

  5. The professor from Lilo and Stitch

  6. Spiderman - the old 60s one anyway

I abhor Woody Woodpecker. I find him an annoying asshole. If you watch Bugs Bunny cartoons, Bugs almost always minding his own business when someone else comes along and bothers him, resulting in madcap hijinks. Woody, on the other hand, starts shit for the sheer sake of doing so.

Contrast with Bugs Bunny, a demigod, an icon.

I’m pretty new here, so I missed whatever Peggy Hill thread you mention, but I absolutely despise her. She’s oblivious to her ignorance, almost as self-absorbed as Homer Simpson… simply infuriating.

hrh

I absolutely LOATHE Elmira from Tiny Toons. On almost an equal par as her is Scrappy Doo. I can’t believe no one else said that one yet. I also despise Peggy Hill, Babs Bunny, and the Roadrunner (poor coyote he only wants to eat).

I do love the Tick and Arthur, I like Woody Woodpecker (mostly because he is a psychotic asshole), and several other ones out there.

Most Despised:
1.) Scrappy Doo. Going Medieval on his ass would not be 1/1000th of the punishment he deserves.
2.) Wolverine. The most overrated character of all.
3.) Guy Gardner.
4.) The Great Kazoo. The Flintstones jumped the shark when this bozo joined the line-up.
5.) The whole cast of the Simpsons. Why intelligent people think this show is funny is beyond me.
Most Loved
1.) The Herculoids
2.) Daphne Blake. The ultimate cartoon babe.
3.) E-Man
4.) Nova Kane
5.) the originasl Jonny Quest
6.) Space Ghost
7.) Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu
8.) Wolff & Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre
9.) Rorschach
10.) Bugs Bunny

I love most of the classic Warner Brothers characters, with Bugs as my favorite, but otherwise:

  1. Bullwinkle J. Moose
  2. Rocket J. Squirrel
  3. George of the Jungle
  4. Bart and Homer Simpson
  5. Eric Cartman

Most hated:

  1. Anything by Hanna Barbera (a special level of hell for Scoobie Doo* and Snagglepuss)
  2. Tasmanian Devil
  3. Dexter**
  4. Powerpuff Girls**
  5. Woody Woodpecker and anything else by Walter Lanz

*Yes, I know Scrappy Doo was even worse. But Scoobie had absolutely nothing going for it before Scrappy showed up.

** It’s appalling how bad the Cartoon Network’s original programming is.

Bugs bunny is and always will be the #1 most loved cartoon character. He is simply the best.

However, everytime that little pipsqueak who’s only attribute is screaming “I’m a chickenhawk” comes on the screen, I am pretty sure a nun or an orphan dies.

Hated

Ash from Pokemon - why does our protagonist have to be the most moronic person on the face of the planet? I even like Pokemon, but I hate Ash. Oh, and Todd, too. Stupid.

Foghorn Leghorn - annoying and stars in the exact same cartoon about 20 times. Granted, the same thing can be said about most Looney Toons characters. While I’m at it, I’ll throw in that stupid female chicken with the bonnet and the glasses and that little chick with the huge glasses that was really smart, too. A pox upon them!

Goku from Dragonball Z - for pretty much the same reasons as Ash. Aside from the fact that he’s a moron, he always, always has to be the one that saves the day. And if it’s a rare occasion when he’s not saving the day, it’s because he sacrificed himself for the greater good (i.e. is Jesus). Oh, and he’s always late for the battle. Just late enough so that I can see characters I actually like get their asses kicked. Thanks, Goku. Fucker.

Homer Simpsons in new episodes of the Simpsons - I can’t think of the exact breaking off point, but at some point Homer went from a dense but loveable individual to a complete asshole who doesn’t care about anything except his crazy schemes. Really annoying because I used to like him so much. On that note…

Loved

Classic Homer Simpsons - He wasn’t very smart, no, but he was one of the most easily likeable characters on television for a lot of years. Also responsible for some of the best lines ever uttered on television.

Eric Cartman - absolutely wonderful character. A complete and utter asshole, but amazingly fun to watch. And if you piss him off he’ll feed you your parents. I mean, really.

Sid the Sloth - I would never have thought of this without the OP, but it’s so true. Great character.

Scar from the Lion King - my favorite Disney villain. “You see, I? Well I shall never be king. And you, you will never see the light of another day.”

Rocko from Rocko’s Modern Life - How can anyone not like Rocko? Honorable mentions to Heffer and Philbert.

Loved [ul]
[li]Astro Boy[/li][li]Optimus Prime[/li][li]Minmei from Robotech (She’s so darn cute)[/li][li]Superman[/li][/ul]

Hated [ul]
[li]Scrappy Doo[/li][li]Scooby Dum[/li][li]The Robotic Three Stooges[/li][li]The Batman that Appears on the Scooby-Doo films[/li][li]Davy & Goliath[/li][/ul]

Most despised:

Peter from Family Guy. That show is funny, and he has a moments, but I hate him. Such an arse of a man.

Cartman from South, he’s a such a twerp, but he’s so funny.

Peggy Hill needs to go. I’m sure that I was not the only one who was thrilled when her parachute didn’t open.

Most loved:

Homer Simpson.

In no particular order…

Most despised:

Tweety Bird- His voice alone is grating enough, but what I really hate about Tweety are all the mean things he does to Sylvester (I’m a cat lover and I resent the way cats are so often portrayed as the villain or as an accessory to the villain in cartoons). This criteria would also qualify the bulldog and the kangaroo whom Sylvester mistakes for a giant mouse, as well as Jerry from Tom and Jerry.

Scrappy Doo- Need I say more?

Pepe Le Phew- These cartoons have always bored me to death.

Most loved:

Heathcliff and Felix the Cat- They are among the few protagonist cartoon cats out there.

Bugs Bunny- I think a lot of us wish we could be like Bugs Bunny and always get the upper hand over our enemies no matter how hard they try to defeat us. Plus, he’s just so damn funny.

Beavis and Butthead- Uhh, these guys are like, cool! (I know B&B is brain candy, but so what, I like 'em!)

In no particular order…

Most loved:

  1. The Tick
  2. Homer Simpson
  3. Eric Cartman
  4. Peter Griffin
  5. Cobra Commander

I have a sympathy for villians and characters that others think are selfish jerks, as I know that the world isn’t so black and white, that those characters are just misunderstood…and besides being a selfish jerk can be really frickin’ funny.

Most Hated:

  1. Mickey Mouse (soooooooo bland, he’s everywhere, he’s a nothing character)
  2. Peggy Hill (for most of the same reasons as everyone else, she’s annoying and thinks she knows everything, and takes herself so seriously, which is what sets her below the know-it-alls on my “loved” list)
  3. Every character who appeared on that Hanna Barbara show where they had a big race every time, or competed in stupid mock olympic events, that whole thing and every character in it sucked big time.

RealityChuck, I agree that Cartoon Network’s weekday original programming sucks, but I like the Sunday night Adult Swim stuff (the comedies, not the Saturday anime serials.) Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Sealab 2021 are two of the funniest things on TV right now, IMHO.

With a special dispensation for Marc Antony from “Feed the Kitty,” of course.

RexDart – I’ll have to check them out. The regular Cartoon Network fare is unwatchable, though.

I’ve always loved Bugs Bunny. The quintessential cartoon character.

I hate any cartoon character based on a video game, toy or candy. (with the exception of Earthworm…um, Joe, was it? It’s been a while, but I did like those cartoons.)

I also hate Captain Planet and the annoying sidekicks, He-Man and the Masters of Action Figures, and the Smurfs. Damn I hate the Smurfs.

Most Loved:
1.& 2. Bugs and Daffy – the best cartoons ever made were the ones they shared – “Shoot him now! Shoot him now!”

  1. The Tick

  2. Homer

  3. Apu

  4. Dr Nick

Hated:

  1. Spritle

  2. Rugrats, singly and in groups.

Tell me you did not just say that.
SOMEONE tell me he did not just say that.

Minmei was the first person I thought about in the despised category. No other character came even close.

Most loved character (in a strictly platonic way): Shane Gooseman and Flash Gordon

Despised…
Mr. Hanky

I love South Park, but what where they thinking???
To me, Mr. Hanky is a classic example of the mistaken idea that:

disgusting => funny

That just isn’t true. Disgusting can be funny, but it’s not automatically funny.

This character makes me wince! Not because it’s disgusting, that doesn’t bother me, but because it’s stupid and not funny. Is there anybody who actually thinks he’s funny?

Most loved:
Bugs Bunny
Elmer Fudd (he’s so imitable)
Daria

Most hated:

Woody Woodpecker and that annoying laugh of his.

Most loved (not in a Platonic way):

Marge Simpson.

I dont care what people say about the CBG cutting too close to home for rabid Simpsons fans, I wince when Moe flounders over Marge, since I’d be doing the same thing over her (in my mind, that is, would never actually say stuff like that.)

By the way, Marge isnt even the best looking cartoon character: there are dozens of Anime chicks that are better looking.
