Most Despised/Loved Cartoon Character

love:

All the simpsons
Pinkie
Bullwinkle, but not rocky
Boris
Metal Munching mice
Wiley
Mr. Peabody

Hate:

Sherman
Clutch Cargo and all his friends
Mighty Mouse
Speed Racer

Love:
The entire cast of “Voltron”, lions not cars
Goliath
Xanatos
Bugs Bunny
The Tick
Wakko, Yakko and Dot

Don’t love:
Scrappy Doo
Pokemon-type cartoon characters
Mickey Mouse (Sorry, just never got into him)

AHHHH, I remember those Saturday mornings when you could get up at 6 am and watch cartoons you loved until noon. Sometimes you even had to- oh no - make a CHOICE between watching 2 cartoon you liked!!!

I detest Tweety. Love Sylvester. Hate the Roadrunner. Love Wyle E. Coyote. Despise Jerry. Love Tom. (Hmmm…do you see a pattern here?) As for random characters;

Love:
Bugs Bunny, Mighty Mouse, Pepe Le Pew, Cartman, Speedy Gonzales, (yes, he’s irritating…and he bedevils poor Sylvester, but he doesn’t seem as blithely sadistic as that shithead Tweety. Maybe it’s the accent.) Peter Pan (animated delinquent bad-boy. Sorry, Michael Jackson…it’s true) Oh, and that little bouncing ball thing from the Zoloft commercials shrug

Hate:
Every one of the Rugrats (They scream too much)

Love:
Invader Zim (everyone in the series)

Milton (Early Mike Judge cartoon)

Beavis & Butthead

Early Daffy Duck (the screwy Daffy, not the greedy Daffy. Especially the one where he’s a bellhop, and that one dude just wants to sleep. Oh, sweet Jebus that’s a classic)

Screwy Squirrel

Nearly EVERYTHING that Bobs Clampett and McKimson did

90% of Chuck Jones cartoons. (Some of his stuff for MGM was lacking)

Tom and Jerry. Especially the ones with Spike and Tyke. (The bulldog and his son)

“Scooby Doo, Where Are You?”

“2 Stupid Dogs”. Especially Little Dog. ALL of his problems are epic.

Ren & Stimpy

Ben Katz (from “Dr. Katz”)

“Aqua Teen Hunger Force”

“SeaLab 2021”

Peanut (from “Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law”)

Zorak, Thunderclese and Dad from “The Brak Show”

Buttercup and Bubbles from “The Powerpuff Girls”

“Rolie Polie Olie”. The show is just damned CUTE.

Hate:
Tom & Jerry Kids

Flinstones Kids

“The Thirteen Ghosts of Scooby Doo” (That little Mexican kid is WAY more annoying than Scrappy)

“The New Scooby Doo Movies”

“Scooby Doo and Scrappy, Too”

Lynn Minmei from “Robotech”

Now, the Rugrats (which actually wasn’t that bad a show, though it could get annoying, especially with that constant ‘babies mispronouncing adult words’ shtick) have been mentioned several times, but unless I missed it, I can’t believe no-one else has announced their burning loathing for

ANGELICA FUCKING PICKLES

God, what a whiny annoying hateful not to mention ugly little BRAT. I can’t even fathom to imagine who at Nickelodeon had to blow who at TV Guide to get ANGELICA FUCKING PICKLES as the 9th greatest cartoon character of all times.

Elmyra (Animaniacs) and Meg (Family Guy) I also hated (Such a shame with Meg, too - Family Guy was a great show, but they sure dropped the ball with Meg), but ANGELICA FUCKING PICKLES… brr.

Among loved, we have most of the cast of Daria, especially Daria, Jane, Upchuck and Mr. DiMartino, most of the cast of Simpsons, espcially Homer and Mr. Burns, Brian the dog from Family Guy, Quagmire from Family Guy, Mr. Garrison from South Park, The Brain, Beavis & Butthead, and Wile E. Coyote.

I Love:

Bender
Classic Homer Simpson (seasons 2-9)
Daria
Captian Murphy
the Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Ren and Stimpy
Dr Zoidberg
Spike Spiegel
Eric Cartman
Stewie Griffin

I Despise:

Scrappy Doo
Foghorn Leghorn
the Superman that was on Superfriends
Peggy Hill
Pretty much any of the “Popular Series Kids” characters

ANGELICA FUCKING PICKLES

I did. Everyone of the Rugrats…but especially HER! When my kids were little & first started watching Rugrats, they used to yell “KRISTEN!!!” at the TV everytime Angelica appeared. Kristen is the name of their cousin and (at that time), she was an Angelica clone. She’s better now that they’re almost grown-up (19). Thank God.
OH! And DARIA! I forgot all about that one. I loved Jane & her brother Trent. Trent reminds me of my son. The laid-back attitude, the goatee…the struggling band. Yep.

Classic (1950’s) Warner Brothers. I’m a big Daffy fan (“Yoiks, and awaaay…”), but nobody has ever topped Bugs and Elmer singing Tannhäuser in What’s Opera, Doc. And they never will.

Classic Disney. Dr. Ludwig Von Drake. Donald, Goofy, et. al. Never a big Mickey fan, but the old Silly Symphonies can be gems.

(Mickey talking to marriage counselor: “I never said she was crazy, I said she was f***ing Goofy!”)

Jonny Quest. Rocky & Bulwinkle. Mr. Peabody.

But pretty much everything made after 1965 sucks major. (Although my kids watch Rocket Power and the Wild Thornburys, and they aren’t too bad…)

Love

ZIM. All the characters. Well, except Iggins, that smarmy bastard; thinks he’s a better gamer than GAZ? He deserves to die. Like the bastards at NICK for cancelling the show.

The Simpsons. Sure, even I’ll admit that the writing has gone downhill, but it still beats so many other shows on TV after 14 years.

Bugs 'n Daffy. Any 'toon with the two together, whether it’s a rivalry, or Daffy plays the greedy lackey, is pure comic gold.

Lupin III. I have never seen the show on Adult Swim (one of a very few reasons to get cable), but I have seen two episodes commercially released before Adult Swim, and own a couple of the movies. Lupin is great, as a creepy letch (in MAMO), and as the valiant knight-in-shining-armor (in Miyazaki’s Castle of Cagliostro). People who enjoy Cowboy Bebop and others like it should check it out.

Hate, HATE, HAAAATE!!!

Powerpuff Girls and Dexter. I used to marginally enjoy the shows, but after a while, their lustre wore off for me and now they annoy the hell out of me.

Dragonball Z. It was all well and good for me as a teenager, since it was my introduction to anime, but after waiting and waiting and waiting for that damn Frieza saga to finally come to an end, I gave up. All talk, and when it comes to action, IMHO, too little, much, much too late.

Spongebob Squarepants. I could never stand to watch this for more than 17 seconds. I just don’t understand its popularity.

There’s so much more to add on both sides here, but I’d need more time to compose a more complete list.

Another additon to the love list:

Cecil the Seasick Sea Serpent (from “Beanie and Cecil”)

I reeeaaaaallly hate sidekicks. The only good sidekick was Dynomutt from Blue Falcon.

Some truly migraine-inducing sidekicks:
That stupid wizard thing and Cringer from He-Man/She-Ra
Snarf from Thundercats
Scrappy Doo
Penny from Inspector Gadget. (Brain was cool though).
The WonderTwin’s monkey on Superfriends
ChimChim from Speed Racer

Love:
Jane from Daria
Samurai Jack
Bugs Bunny
Hong Kong Fooey
JabberJaw
Duckman
Ranma 1/2

Piccolo-The best thing that ever happened to DB/DBZ
Spike-Cowboy Bebop
Bender-Futurama
Every one from Home Movies.
Lupin III
Vegita–Gotta love the classic story of redemption…
Wacko

Hate:
Bulma-DBZ
Trunks-DBZ

Two wacky opinions here:

One cartoon character I’ve recently thrilled to is Tico the Squirrel, from Dora the Explorer (my kid loves the show). He does anything and everything – drive cars, race speedboats, fly helicopters, raise chickens, solve the Unified Field Theory – all with panache, zeal, and a touch of modesty. No matter how big of a jam Dora and Boots might get into, Tico can be counted on to show up with a wink and a grin and effortlessly take care of everything. I want to be Tico.

And at the risk of getting flamed, I’ll say that I never cared for Bugs Bunny. Sure, he’s sassy and clever and what-have-you, but I always thought he was a bit too perfect – like Superman (another dull character), he’s just too infalliable for me to appreciate. I always thought Buster and Babs Bunny from Tiny Toon Adventures were better, just because they combined Bugs’ sass and wit with some all-too-human frailities; the Bunnies can and will screw up on occassion, making them merely mortals instead of a demigod like Bugs.

Oh yes, I also love Dib and Gaz from Invader Zim.

The Brain has always been my favourite. And I sincerely like Marvin the Martian.

One character I really adore (and so far, I think he hasn’t been mentioned yet - which is strange) is Sideshow Bob. He’s just the epitomy of sophisticated evil, and he’s voiced by Kelsey Grammar, possibly one of the greatest voices of all time.

What always amazes me, though, is that, while everyone seems to hate Scrappy Doo (I do, too, for the record) there are so many “Scooby and Scrappy” episodes. Was there once a time when Scrappy was - gasp- popular, or did the network people just not have a clue?

Few things can rival the awesome shitty evil that was Scrappy Doo. His name will someday stand proudly next to Hilter, Stalin, Pol Pot and Disney as one who HURT the world, and made it a darker, crueler, more terrible place.

Love:
The Tick
Homer

Dislike:
He-Man. First of all he needs to find some pants. Secondly, I haven’t seen the show in a long time but I remember him having some confidence issues. Despite being the most kick-ass warrior in the universe he didn’t have any self-respect. Not only that but his pet tiger (?) was also pretty pathetic until he did that whole “power of grayskull” thing. Thirdly the name. Can a title be any more redundant while emphasizing the obvious? I mean he runs around in a loincloth half the time. Is anyone really going to confuse him for She-Woman? Fourthly and most importantly I loved the He-Man movie when I was a kid, but upon seeing it when I was older (with much more wisdom gained) I realized what a pile of crap it was. I guess he was just another addition to that smelly heap called the 80’s.

I’m not going to flame you but I will ask whether you’ve ever seen the earlier Bugs Bunny cartoons from the 1940’s. In some of those cartoons, he wasn’t above doing some underhanded things (why do you think he said, “Gee, ain’t I stinker?”) and wasn’t so perfect as not to be occasionally bested by a foe (e.g., the turtle and the gremlin).
