Movies in 2010 you are looking forward to

2010’s going to be an amazing year for movies. There are a lot more than what’s been mentioned here. I haven’t made a list yet, haven’t had time, and I’m not sure I will, but there are tons. New Terrence Malick, new Darren Aronofsky, new Sofia Coppola, new David O. Russell, new Coen Brothers, new Jean-Pierre Jeunet, new Doug Liman, new Steven Soderbergh, new Neil Jordan, new Woody Allen, new Paul Greengrass, new Bong Joon-ho (The Host), new Olivier Assayas, new Anton Corbijn (Control) with George Clooney, new Alejandro Amenábar, new Jodie Foster (directing again!), new Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, tons more, so many more, but I have to go to work and I’m seeing a triple feature after work at the Brew & View (Moulin Rouge!, Nine and Almost Famous, whee!) so I’ll think about putting together a real post tomorrow. Or not. Do most of you really care?

Just write “Everything” and be done with it.

That sounded snarkier than I intended. I meant, about director’s movie, rather than the blockbusters mostly mentioned.

Edit to add, after seeing Justin’s post. Yeah, practically everything. laugh

But really, I am excited for so many movies and I haven’t even finished going through the full list, have barely dented the surface. Here’s an 11-part series on upcoming movies.

I have to catch a bus, but Inception is an upcoming film I really wanted to mention.

Kick-Ass too, of course.

Oh no. According to that link, they’re going to test both an R and a PG-13 version of The Expendables and see which one to release. That’s not good news. There’s no way I’ll go see it if it’s PG-13.

Thanks for the link though. There are dozens of movies in there that I am excited for now that I hadn’t heard of before. And that picture for The Beaver is the best thing I’ve ever seen.

Holy crap Predators is this year?!??!

Oh my good god I am gonna be sooooo poor…

Clash of the Titans
Alice in Wonderland (not a big Tim Burton fan but he is perfect to direct this movie)

Being normally anti-Facebook I wouldn’t give “The Social Network” two thoughts…

But since I idolize Aaron Sorkin…looks like I gotta see it.

Plus, it’s a David Fincher film, so I have to give it the benefit of the doubt.

I forgot about Preditors too! I’m first in line for that one.

So many things already mentioned in this thread:

Already out, but haven’t seen yet:
Wolfman
The Crazies
Daybreakers
Percy Jackson’s The Lightning Thief
Shutter Island

Waiting impatiently for
Clash of the Titans
Alice in Wonderland
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Tron

Curious about
The Last Airbender (based on recommendations from geeky friends)
Robin Hood
The A Team

Will probably see just for fun
Prince of Persia
Ironman II
Nightmare on Elm Street (I saw ALL of these back in the day)

Mine!

Also very interested by ones that have been mentioned numerous times in this thread like Alice in Wonderland & Clash of the Titans. Nightmare on Elmstreet is one of my favorite horrer series so I am very intrigued by the reboot.

Oh, I had forgotten about Tron: Legacy or whatever it’s called. I am quite interested in seeing that.

There’s Centurion and Eagle of the Ninth, both of which appear to be about Romans being attacked by Picts or Celts in Scotland. And there’s also meant to be a film in 2010 of Bran mac Morn, which is also Picts attacking Romans in Scotland, based on the character created by Robert E. Howard (who created Conan, and* Solomon Kane*)

A bit of a theme there, I think! Not sure I’ll feel up to seeing all three, though, as I fear for the quality!

Go see “Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” I saw the trailer for it over the weekend, when I went to see “Sherlock Holmes”…it’s got Bruckheimer, Cage, and a Trevor Rabin soundtrack. It looks to be the love-child of National Treasure and Harry Potter.

I like some of your camera work, your lead female is hot, and you found an awesome voiceover guy, but after watching the trailer, I still have no idea what the movie is about. Does he change all his life plans and start over when he runs into a girl from his past? That’s just a guess. I would seriously think about recutting if I were you, and driving the plot home a little more.

Also, the “ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!” makes it seems like a David Zucker/Wayans Brothers slapstick, which I don’t think it is (?)

Its not a slapstick - the “absolutely nothing” gag is a wink to the fact that I did this with no budget, have no real experience, and really no business doing this sort of thing.

As for the plot, well, you aren’t the first person to make that comment. I am definitely planning on recutting it, mainly to fix some irritating things like the camera shake in the last shot. But as for what the movie is about, well, there isn’t a whole lot more to it than whats there. The movie is, in a sentence, about a guy who gets dumped, fired, and (re)meets the girl of his dreams all in one morning and the fallout thereof. I thought, in terms of plot detail, I had about as much as this trailer and that was selected for sundance.

You’re right, it is comparable in terms of plot detail. But Sundance doesn’t make selections based on trailers. The trailer is for your audience. The one you linked to has better cinematography, better acting (don’t feel bad; they obviously had more money), and ends with a really solid laugh. Since you don’t have their resources, and you’re not getting the Sundance exposure, your trailer needs to be better.

When I heard of Avatar, I assumed that it was based on Avatar: The Last Airbender. Not like I have any intention of seeing either of them…
