Movies you're looking forward to in 2006?

I saw the first Underworld with friends, and when we saw that a sequel was in the works, we laughed out loud. It was worth the MST 3000 treatment, but otherwise I regret that evening. YMMV.

Sailboat

Mission Impossible 3
X Men 3 (with something of a sense of dread, I admit)
Pirates of the Carribean 2

I suppose Tideland counts, if it ever gets released. Always have been a fan of Gilliam, so it will be interesting if he redeems himself after Brothers Grimm or if he has actually turned into crap.

!!! First I’ve heard of that! Sounds like the kind of thing with plenty of potential for achievement or for fuckup. I wonder if the, well, the religious sensibility, or lack thereof, will be the same as in the original. I mean, in view of the premise, it could have been made like the Left Behind movies where the whole point is to encourage the viewers to Get Saved – but it wasn’t, it was horror. May the remake remain so!

In addition to a bunch of the ones others have mentioned, I look forward to Nacho Libre, starring Jack Black as a man who becomes a luchadore (Mexican wrestler) in order to save an orphanage.

I all fairness it wasn’t that memorable!

As a lifelong colonial history buff, I’m looking really forward to New World. The trailer looks like they may have it much closer to accurate than previous movies (even moreso than the Disney movie with Mel Gibson).

I’m also looking foreward to Brokeback Mountain (which is out but hasn’t released where I live) and to Infamous, the other “Capote writes In Cold Blood” movie, though I suspect it won’t be as good.

I usually call him “Opie Cunningham” from the Eddie Murphy interview of him on SNL.

My favorite thing about Underworld… All vampires live in the same house… Apparetly being a vampire is like being in a sorority.

amen (so to speak)

Cool, but if there no cameo by ***El Santo *** * I will be disappointed.
[sub]*Yes, I know the original died already, but the son took over his mask.[/sub]

I mean:

Cool, but if there is no cameo by ***El Santo *** I will be disappointed.

The third “Bourne” movie. I thought it was going to come out this year, but no luck.

Holy crap, I had no idea this was in the works, but it sounds AWESOME. And I’m not joking – I’m sure it will be cheesy as hell, but hilarious and probably heartwarming at the same time (like The 40-Year-Old Virgin was). Jack Black is a fine comic actor (see High Fidelity, anyone who doubts), and I’m a huge fan of lucha libre and masked wrestling culture in general. Wow, I can’t wait for this!

cbawlmer, you have the best taste. I can only assume you liked “The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco”?

It would have been a significantly more thoughtful and worthwhile movie if the vampires had been cheerleaders.

I saw this trailer today for Marie Antoinette, starring Kirsten Dunst, written and directed by Sophia Coppola, and dang, it looks like a wonderful movie! Fall 2006.

Ask and ye shall receive!

Cars, yo!

If there is any sense of justice (and humor) in the world, every theater in the nation will give out free nachos if you buy a ticket for this movie.

I’m only really looking forward to the Silent Hill movie. I’m really hoping it won’t suck like every other video game movie ever made. And since Silent Hill took so much from my favorite psychological horror movie ever (Jacob’s Ladder), I’d say that gives it a better chance than the rest.

Also, Snakes on a Plane.
