I see X-3 is coming out. And the new SuperMan. But I’m not hearing a lot of hype yet on the summer blockbusters.
What is coming and what are you looking forward to?

Pirates of the Caribbean II, baby!
I hyperventilated when I saw the trailers during Chronicles of Narnia.
They’re showing trailers DURING the movie now? Instead of before??
I don’t know if it would technically be a “summer movie” (i.e. an action/adventure movie that is supposed to draw in large numbers) but I’m patiently awaiting the release of A Scanner Darkly.
Like I said, I was hyperventilating. I was so excited I got confused. So nyah.
V for Vendetta, A Scanner Darkly, The Da Vinci Code, X-3, Nacho Libre, Loverboy, Superman Returns, The Devil Wears Prada, Pirates of the Caribbean II, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Lady in the Water, Trust the Man…
I’m sure there’s more.
V For Vendetta actually opens in 2 1/2 weeks, on March 17th! And birthday or no birthday, I’ll be there opening day.
Other than that, I’m looking forward to Superman Returns, X-Men 3, Pirates of the Caribbean 2, and especially Southland Tales, the new action/musical/sci-fi/comedy by Richard Kelly, the writer/director of Donnie Darko.
The Departed
Scorcese
Di Caprio
Nicholson
Matt Damon
Martin Sheen
remake of the excellent Hong Kong movie “Internal Affairs”.
Always excited for new Scorcese.
Meh. Too many sequels, obvious big-budget bombs, and other such dreck.
Count me in as hopeful on Southland Tales, and I’ll raise you The Notorious Bettie Page. There’s not even a Charlie Kaufman film on the horizon, and I can’t get too excited about any of the blockbusters. Whereinthehell did James Cameron hie off too, anyway?
Votes for major suck: [ul][li]Failure To Launch (death to both stars), []American Dreamz (I can’t even stand the name), []Mission Impossible III (please, let the nightmare be over). [/ul][/li]
Another shiite year at the cinema, I expect.

 You mean that isn’t just a Board joke?!
“Pirates of the Caribbean II” !! Yes!! Can’t wait, can’t wait.
[Yeah, it can’t possibly be as good as the first, but I don’t care.]
Nitpick, That would be"Infernal Affairs". I used to get excited about new Scorcese flicks but, sadly…tragically, I think much of his recent work has suffered in his pursuit of mainstream Academy approval.
Unfortunately, suckitude will probably also claim X-3. Buzz is that it’s going to be crummy due to its hyper-rushed production schedule and crappy director (Brett “Rush Hour” Ratner).
I’m really looking forward to “V for Vendetta” (although it should open on Nov 5, dammit), “A Scanner Darkly” and “Pirates of the Carribean 2”
Cars. Pixar all the way, bay-bee!
Dunno if it’ll be a summer flick, although it’s been in post-production for a couple of months now, but I’m sadomasochistically anticipating the remake of The Wicker Man, dir. Neil LaBute, with Nicholas Cage, Leelee Sobieski as the barmaid, and Ellen Burstyn as the head of the [this time] New England matriarchal, bee-keeping-centered, Pilgrim-descended cult.
Now I don’t expect this to top the original, especially in the soundtrack department (I’ve not been able to learn anything about the music, diagetic or otherwise, so far), but some of the setting changes are intriguing, if faintly evocative of similar tales. The matriarchal and New England aspects recalls that of the “Harvest Home” novel and TV movie from the 70’s, and the beehive motif promises some of the fascination of that other insect/human-societies allegory from a few years ago, the A.S. Byatt novel (and film) Angels and Insects.
There’s even a rumor that Edward Woodward will have a cameo in the remake, but there’s no confirmation of that on IMDB. (If he’s in it, he’s uncredited, so far.)
On the negative side, it’s hard to envision Nick Cage being as good as E.W. in the original; the music is bound to suffer in comparison (it’s a bit worrying that there’s no music-related credits at all listed on IMDB; music was a huge aspect of the original, to the extent that it could arguably be classified as a musical); certain plot contrivances (such as a detective snooping about alone, incommunicado, and unarmed, which made reasonable sense in the 1973 British version) will strain credulity even more this time around; the off-the-wall (no pun intended) sexploitation aspect of the original will likely evaporate in the quest for a PG-13 rating (I’m guessing; IMDB doesn’t specify a rating yet); and the local color won’t likely be as charmingly quaint, if only 'cause nobody does that better than the Brits (or Scottish, in the original). There’s no mime troupe leader (Lindsay Kemp) playing an innkeeper in this one, it’s safe to say.
OTOH, the release of the remake will certainly spur greater interest in (and no doubt appreciation of) the original. Heck, it might even see some late-night play on American cable, for once. Turner Classic Movies, are you listening?
One more detail about the Wicker Man remake: although it’s set in New England, it was filmed outside of Vancouver. I don’t think anybody familiar with the the North American continent will be fooled by the Pac NW standing in for New England, but that’s relatively trivial. OTOH, should the local Canuck accents slip in on the lips of the villager extras, the results could be hilarious.
Speaking of accents, I wonder if Cage will be trying one on? A touch of the Boston-Southy, perhaps? This could be a train wreck… :dubious:
Good heavens. Terry Bradshaw is in it. That Terry Bradshaw.
I’m in serious anticipation for The Fountain by Darren Aronofsky.
Other than that, Cars and Lady in the Water, I expect crap. So sad.
Okay, I know that story is bogus. It starts off with Harry Knowles claiming to have a girlfriend, and we know it’s all fabrication from there on.
Comic Book Guy doesn’t have a girlfriend. If he did, he wouldn’t be rushing home to watch the Dr. Who marathon.

You know, despite being a really large guy and having insanely bad body stink, Harry always has girls hanging around him. It’s kinda weird (maybe it’s the fame thing). Seriously, he smells so bad that it’s hard to sit even three rows behind him…
