Moving On Up - A New Neighbor MMP

I read that as grapeshot, and thought "Boy the FairyChats have fully embraced the pirate life. :pirate_flag::wink:
But glad the move is going reasonably well.

Wifey said she heard on the news the other day that Washington State Parks were free yesterday, so we decided to visit Admiralty Head Lighthouse.

We headed out, and as we turned toward the freeway we found ourselves behind a firetruck. A pair of bald eagles took off from the forested edge of the road. The female went right, and the male went left. Left was unfortunate, because that was right in front of the firetruck. It looked like a close call. I swear I saw a white tail feather float in the firetruck’s slipstream.

We had breakfast at Farmhouse restaurant in Mount Vernon. Imagine my surprise and delight when we walked in and I heard The Dropkick Murphys on the speakers. Other music was traditional Irish instrumentals, but they did play a song I know from The Pogues, and they did actually play The Pogues. The restaurant had been bought by an Irish-descended family since we went there for dinner a couple of years ago.

When we got to the lighthouse we discovered the free day isn’t until next week. Mrs. L.A. dropped the $10 fee in an envelope on the way out. I looked at the steep spiral staircase in the tower. I thought it looked like a lawsuit waiting to happen, in case some sod with rubbish knees tried to climb them. Yeah, I climbed up the stairs, and then the ladder. We saw a bald eagle in a nearby tree. You can just see it here.

We didn’t tour the Fort Casey gun emplacements, though we did drive through the parking area. Lots of people flying kites.

Morning all. And Happy Easter from the Ali-bama Heathen.

A little rain in the morning and more expected in the afternoon, with it only getting to 65F. The gym is closed so will have to amuse myself at home today. Otherwise a quiet day is expected.

Cookie, there is always a sort of weird/eerie feeling being in a house you know so well that is virtually empty. Hope the movement of stuff goes well.

shady, I take it your not having Ham for dinner today? And in regards to the ‘customer’, you ought to be reading the “Not Always Right” webpage, a lot of stuff like that gets discussed there.

swampy, hope the Acolytes did well.

OK, onward into the day. Take care all.

Oh… The gift shop had a walking stick medallion. I don’t have any medallions on my walking stick, because I consider it cheating if I didn’t actually make a hike. But Mrs. L.A. bought me one, and I’ll put it on. I consider making it to the top of the lighthouse legitimate, what with my destroyed knees.

you don’t gotta used canned peas. Do whatever you want, it’s your dinner.

We were going to have a rib roast for dinner tonight, but the smallest/cheapest one they had was 5 pounds and OMG expensive, even on sale, so we’re having ham. I think.

We’ve got the big (55") TV sitting on an end table in the living room, but Dish Network has been cut off, so we’ve been watching what we can get off the interwebz. Mostly Amazon. It was going to go over the hill with me today, but it may stay here until I come back next week. Don’t know.

All y’all have a wonderful Easter, or Sonday. Whichever.

My play day with the grand babies just got cancelled-the baby, Sorenson, started throwing up during the night and they are isolating to cut down spread. I’ll go over later, go in the back yard gate and hide Easter eggs for Harriet in the yard and then leave without contact, so she can have a little bit of Easter fun.

It snowed a few flurries a bit ago. There ought to be a law that there never is snow on Easter. It’s now about 32 degrees wind chill and very gray and gloomy. Bah, humbug!

flyboy thanks for the lighthouse tour. I enjoyed reading about it.

Cheers! Happy Easter! :rabbit2::hatching_chick:

Here’s a web archive with more history and pictures.

Well, I did something today that I haven’t done in years – I went to church - and I didn’t get struck by lightning! I was raised Catholic, Ruble and I attended a Lutheran church, and this was a Presbyterian church.

My Gentleman Caller is an organist (and has his own business building them). He quit his previous church job (Episcopalian) before we met and this was his first gig in a while, to help out the music director there. I’ve never heard him play, so I went, and he asked me to be his page-turner for the postlude. That made me happy.

Only walked 0.52 miles today, instead of my usual 2.0 to 2.5 miles; but for a reason. After going to the top of the lighthouse and back down, Wifey realised how out of shape she is. She wanted to drive to the beach (the hill would have been too much for her) and try a walk. I went with her, and we ended up driving about ⅓ mile down the beach so we could walk on the berm. Nice walk, and half a mile is pretty good for her first walk.

I cleaned, I cleared out some things for donation. I napped.

So your GC showed you his organ in a church, on Easter Sunday? :open_mouth: :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice to have you in the handbasket doggio! :stuck_out_tongue:

May the remainder of the move and settling in your new abode go well cookie.

VanGo, I’m with you on regular canned peas, but the original recipe likely called for pigeon peas. Even canned, they tend to be firmer than :blecccccchhhh: regular canned peas. They’re pretty common in Cuban, Puerto Rican and Dominican cuisine.

The pic-a-nic went well. I may have a sitter for Nelson after all now for the day that SIL and I go to Paris (Tennessee). Since she’s driving, he can’t go with us and finding doggy care that begins at 0500 on a Saturday morning and doesn’t end until ~1900 has been problematic. One of the couples in the group lost their fox terrier to old age a few months ago and they both love Nelson, so they’ve tentatively agreed to take care of him. We were a bit cold, but we had good company, food, aig hunt and music, so the event was successful.

It was snowing earlier today. I call BS on mom nature. I need to mow the lawn.

doggio and missred and everyone else on the path, leave some space in that handbasket for me. All my friends will be there.

Howdy Y’all! We had a very large and in charge Easter deheathenization this mornin’. I am proud to say the Acolytes did well on their debut. I mean, everything went mostly right. Who could ask for more than that! We also had a very large and festive Easter feast at da cave. JDD and Partner are fun to be around so much silliness and laughter ensued. After they left, the dishwasher got loaded (with dishes not likker as it is pretty much a teetotaler) and nappage happened for OYKW and me. I zonked for a good two hours and feel like I could go to bed now, but I won’t. Tomorrow is men’s night over to the church house, thus steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. Also, the biiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Rain has moved in with occasional thunderbooms, which always makes me happy. Now we are in major chill mode.

red glad the heathen pic-a-nic went well and yay for findin’ Nelson a doggie sitter.

doggio actually GC played with someone else’s organ in church in front of O_W. We can always make a thing sound even dirtier if we really put our minds to it.

O_W our collective dirty minds aside, I am glad you had a good day with GC.

FlyBoy you earned the medallion by walkin’ up all those steps.

Boo sorry your playdate with the grands got cancelled. Hope Sorenson is feelin’ better poor baby! Yay on you for figurin’ a way for Harriet to have some Easter fun.

shady I think that is my favorite all time Bugs Bunny cartoon.

MetalMouse the rain is finally visitin’ here, but don’t know how much and for how long. Today was surprisingly nice for the most part which is good for all the humanlets wantin’ to hunt plastic aigs filled with goodies.

Cookie an empty house is a weird experience. Hope the move and settlin’ in to the new digs goes smoothly.

nightshadea, What’s Opera Doc is perhaps my favorite cartoon ever. If you’d like to see a glorious live action version, done by high schoolers during a concert intermission, here it is. I promise you will like it.

My family had a wonderful Easter gathering. As usual I ate too much. Or is that really possible.
Church was also a splendid service, with two of my favorite hymns. I imagine swampy, or many other churchgoers could clue you in on one of them.

I’m too lazy to go back and quote your comments but yes, in church, in front of a number of people, and there is video on-line. If I did this right, here’s the video. I make my appearance at 1:07:58.

Evening all. Outside of getting the newspaper in this morning, never left the house today and pretty much slothed. Did do a little kitchen cleaning and took the recyclables out to the garage, and might do some bathroom cleaning prior to bedtime, but otherwise I watched sports (and some Dr. Who) and solved my Sunday puzzles. Also made up my weekly schedule for the coming week, so hopefully I’ll be more active.

OW, nice video and cameo appearance.

BBBoo, hope the little one is feeling better soon.

OK, need to be thinking about bed soon. All y’all take care and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.

Was that you in the white sweater and dark pants? My church livestreamed it’s service too, so I could see myself at one point, during Communion, a little over 80% of the way through the service. Do I really look like that?

Yes, that’s me. I went up to be the page-turner for the postlude.

Dinner tonight was pork loin with Pig Salt, Sweet N.O.T. s, and roasted veggies. And a Vieux Carré

My 5th Grade CCD class put our lay teacher in a mental hospital, and they had to bring in nuns. My handbasket has been reserved for a long time.

< reserves extra large handbasket >

OK, that is awesome.

: waves :

I “celebrated” Easter by working a 12-hour shift.

Tomorrow is “Okay, Seriously I Gotta Do My Damn Taxes” Day (as well as “Half-Price Chocolate” Day) so I gotta lot to do.

But for right now, I’m so tired I can barely blink. Have dragged the trash bin out to the curb and then essentially given up on this whole “standing up” nonsense.
Will catch up with y’all on the flip side.
