Mozilla and M. Firefox, cannot connect to server

Even when some sites are working beautifully, I’m having serious issues with my lovely Firefox trying to connect to popular sites like Google and Amazon.com. I’m getting timed out or “cannot connect to server” or occasionally “this page contains no data” messages. Google and Amazon are the biggies, and since I am always, it seems, using their searches, this is starting to irk.

Thoughts? Be gentle. I’m novice level at this computer stuff.

I should have mentioned that if I’m persistent it eventually works.

To me, this doesn’t sound browser-related - I suspect that if you had another computer on the same connection at the same time using Internet Explorer, you would have had the same problem.

I would start looking at my Internet connection (are you getting all the throughput you should? Is the connection going through at full speed?). It’s also possible that Google and/or Amazon had server problems that slowed them down - even the SDMB has its occasional hiccups, so why should Google be exempt?

I’m still having this problem, only with Firefox. IE, Mozilla, and Opera are all fine.

Just now I hit a link about ten times and it finally connected to Mozilla’s site, where I was going to seek help with the issue!
