Yes, I know who Sachertorte targeted.
Errr… the Amulet of Empathy, I think.
Well, the obvious question is how many do I have?
It’s been a busy weekend at home, I’ll get back to more work as soon as possible, maybe tomorrow morning, maybe not till Monday.
1! Now if that doesn’t confirm I’m a townie
BTW, looking at the vote sheet, it looks like votes from yesterday carried over. So unless you actively unvoted, it’s still on there.
Pleo, that includes a vote by Blaster Master, which I suspect is an error.
OK, let’s talk Actions. I think it would be good to try to get a handle on what everyone did last Turn, assuming people are willing to reveal. Here’s what people have said so far:
storyteller gave the Helm of Empathy to tdpatriots
tdpatriots accepted the Helm
sach investigated someone and failed
Hawkeyeop detected magic on Darth Sensitive
MHaye Watched sach
Chucara implied that she investigated someone, but is not revealing
I think that’s all that’s been revealed so far.
I will not be revealing my Action, as I feel it is in the best interests of Town not to do so (I will reveal all at a later time, of course). I think everyone should either reveal their action or specifically demur as I’ve done. That way we have a written record to work with. So, to officially add to the list:
ShadowFacts is not revealing his Action now.
I believe that leaves 6 players to go.
I have also previously specifically demurred.
I stabbed zuma and my blade passed through empty space.
Chucara -
If your investigation failed, I certainly see no upside to revealing your choice of target.
If you found Scum, which I suspect you did not, you should certainly reveal immediately.
If you found Town, though, I see no downside to revealing it. Yes, it might give the Scum an idea of who to target, but if you are Town and if they choose to kill your target instead of, you know, you, then it’s a net gain - you remain alive, able to investigate again in future Turns.
Building a list of confirmed Town can only help us, even if the Scum use it as a guide to their kills.
On another note, the absence of any other Curse claims strongly suggests that tdpatriots12 was Cursed, and is probably Town. If Chucara found Town last Night, and reveals it, we will then have a list of two confirmed Town. I also think the Curse should be lifted on tdpatriots if possible. All this discussion of keeping alive power roles is reasonable, but is missing the point. This is still Mafia, and having living confirmed Good (Townies) is of more value than any power can provide. Get enough of them, and Evil is hosed no matter what powers are in play. If the Evil contingent opts to re-Curse tdpats, so be it; they’ve still wasted a perfectly good Curse. We can also have someone watching tdpats this Turn, so if they go after him again we stand a chance of witnessing it.
Also, I said I watched Hawkeyeop and saw him do something to Darth.
Yeah… except that tdpats really isn’t confirmed. This is Mafia, so convoluted conspiracy theories are always the rage. Who’s to say that both tdp and one of the Clerics aren’t evil, and are banking on a 50/50 shot of getting a ‘confirmed townie’ amongst their number?
I focused my chi. Also I have heard back from Pleo on whether or not there is a designated hitter amongst the evil. He said there is not. If we are allowed to post pms here I will post it.
If votes are indeed held over…
Unvote Mhaye
I still have concerns, but Turn 1 events are not something I’m keen on getting too stubborn about at this point.
Also at this point, I’m leaning more toward storyteller’s point of view than Boozahol’s. I also don’t see how we can reconcile the traditional “keeping power roles alive” perspective with the setup of this game. We’re all power roles, and potentially dynamic ones at that. Outside of the analysis on individual items alone, I’m finding it difficult to rank potential powers on a spectrum. Whether it is most powerful to least powerful, or pro-Good to pro-Evil or whatever. Maybe in the mid or end game, but not now. Now there is too much potential for all of the powers to end up being critical depending on choices that we’re all still making in an environment of scarce public knowledge.
One thing I started working on, but haven’t had enough time to actually do was to re-write the character/class combination in a reconciled manner based on the confirmed public information, while also translating the odds from the descriptive to the numeric, because that helps me see things more clearly.
I got as far as sinjin before I got confused about rules and had to ask Pleo for confirmation, but to give you an idea, this is what Hawkeye’s turned out like this:
Hawkeyeop the Elf Magic-User…has a 5/6 chance (Elf improvement negated) to magically know the number of charges on any item in his possession (a free chance each Turn for each item). His regular ability lets him detect magic on another character and gives a 5/6 chance (Elf improvement negated) to determine how many magic items they currently possess (before the effects of the Turn). Once per game, he has a 5/6 chance (Elf improvement negated) to magically recharge an item in his possession by rerolling its charge distribution.
It is labor intensive, and we’re all probably managing something similar individually in our notes, but it may be worth doing in public, and even adding sections based on alleged item’s possessed and how those items might also impact the individual. I say this because I’ve already been confused at details, Hawkeyeop has been confused about details, and if we’re all privately tracking these things with our own individual errors, we’re probably handicapping ourselves by giving Evil and Chaos a lot of opportunity to detect and exploit those errors before we recognize them as a consensus.
Updated actions:
storyteller gave the Helm of Empathy to tdpatriots
tdpatriots accepted the Helm
sach investigated someone and failed
Hawkeyeop detected magic on Darth Sensitive
MHaye Watched sach
Chucara implied that she investigated someone, but is not revealing
ShadowFacts is not revealing his Action now
sinjin focused his chi
Zsofia watched Hawkeyeop and saw him do something to Darth
Boozahol stabbed zuma and his blade passed through empty space
Cookies is not revealing his Action now
I think that just leaves Hockey Monkey and Darth Sensitive.
Well, the decision to rescue me from the Curse really isn’t mine to make. Just in case I’ll be using Displacement for self protection. Since I think this would be the order of events:
- Cleric attempts to un-Curse me
- I live or die
- My action happens (or I’m dead)
As far as whether or not I’m “confirmed town” - well, no, not until I’m dead. And now that I have the Helm of Empathy there’s pretty much no other way to find out anyway, except if 1) I survive due to being healed, 2) No one else dies. Even then, there’s the unlikely scenario that the scum didn’t Curse anybody.
I agree with **storyteller **about attempting to lift the curse on tdpatriots. Yes, it’s possibly a scum ploy, and no, it does not confirm anyone. However, Occam’s Razor tells me that it’s far more likely to be a simple Curse by Evil dudes on a Good player. And if we can thwart their plans, we should. Also, for those who might advocate “saving” the possible cure for later, I say “bird in the hand.” We don’t know how long our clerics are going to live, so it would be a shame to hold off, then never get to use the power.
Obviously, it’s not my job to tell the Clerics what to do, but I vote for attempting to save tdpatriots.* We should at the very least discuss it with **sach **and Chucara.
*This has nothing to do with my being a Patriots fan
Sorry, I’ve been out all day. I’m not revealing at this time.
Game note:
Do not expect my results PMs to be in any particular format.
I will not be around at end of Turn tomorrow. I’ll be on a jet plane flying towards warmer weather, I hope. I’m traveling till Sunday but should be able to get intranets at the hotel.
Now that that’s out of the way, I’m getting a bit suspicious of those who don’t want to say what they did last Turn. I would especially like to hear something from chucara.
I’d like to hear from Chucara as well, but speaking for myself as someone who is not revealing as yet, your bits of suspicion are carrying a broad brush. It is entirely possible to put pressure on Chucara and not make a drive-by smear on the rest of those who are not yet divulging. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I have perfectly reasonable pro-Good reasons for my choice.
