My bathroom, it is a showplace.

Sorry, Draelin, I was forced to laugh out loud at that one. I think it was the dry lead-in.

For those of you following this saga: No furnace/AC people yet, but I called to see if I had time to run errands and they thought they’d be here in about 1/2 an hour. We’ll see.

GT

Shouldn’t that be quasi-gross?

So they are the same people swampy got to repair his unit.

And CD, the vacuum bag story is so ffamiliar. I run the vacuum once a week at the restaurant my GF works at. Apparently she, I and the owner are the only people there that know how to change the bag out. And none of the employees are clueless frat boys. I would never have thought that was a hard skill to master.

And I obviously used the Welsh variation of “familiar”.

<snerk> Wouldn’t ACBG be the final authority on whether or not Swampy’s unit had a problem?

Tee hee…finally got into <snerk> territory. Well, they’re here and I’m pretty sure they’re not the same people… (As I recall, swampy had some complimentary things to say about their appearance. I don’t, really. Maybe chaoticdonkey could hide in my shrubbery and give an opinion?)

In addition to having a very small house, I have a very narrow driveway. They pulled the truck in as far as they could and are precisely 1 inch under the neighbor’s gutter and about 4 inches from mine.

But they’ve discussed their strategy and are dismantling as I type.

Oh and yes Bob, I believe ACBG would be the ultimate judge of erm… units. swampy’s at any rate.

Wow, I’m going to have to think carefully about how to use this newfound power!

Thanks for the cake recipe! I’m going to have to try that REALLY REALLY soon.

Today’s going *really *well. I had to present a report that I’ve been working on for the last month. Normally I get snotty, difficult questions on these. And I did, but one of the VPs took all the questions and backed me up completely. Very nice.

Then I had to demonstrate the new website for a product that we’ve been using for a long time. Change is not appreciated around here. But the demonstration went well.

Then one of the VPs had a question about the shortcut to the website. I couldn’t fix it (problems with IE vs. Firefox), so I marched right over to IT Guy (with whom I’ve had months of problems and headaches) and told him about it. He was quite reasonable and said he’d take care of it. So I told VP this and now if it doesn’t get done, VP knows that IT Guy is supposed to be handling it and it’s not my problem.

Oh, AND the printer told us that the file for the same report as above is going to work and they’re getting started on it. I did the whole report myself - graphics included, which is supposed to be IT Guy’s job but that’s part of the problems I’ve been having with him - and I was worried that we’d have to have him fix things in the end which would only escalate the problems we’ve been having, but it turned out just fine. It took a little work and a little revising/remaking the pdf a few times, but it came out fine and they’re going to start the print job.

So lotsa good news for me today. And I have a new chocolate cake recipe to try!

Yay! It rained today! We need a good rain to clear the air and water the plants and what-not. It was nice to feel cool air.

Lessee, other than that…I got bupkuss.

You might want to see a doctor about that. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah. It can be contagious, and I don’t wanna catch it.
I should be doing laundry. Instead I am thinking about leftover cake and reading the Dope. Bad me.

[QUOTE=Draelin]

Funny thing is, it kinda grows on you. It’s in a bedroom, of all places, and quite frankly I really like it. So what’s that tell you about ME?

We’re looking at getting a new vac. The one we have is a dyson-type (not a real Dyson). We have a dog that’s part Siberian Husky, part German Shedder. I don’t think I need to point out that there’s always vast quantities of long fluffy dog fur everywhere needing to be attacked by the Floor Sucker.
The <CENSORED> vac we have now sucks great, and cleans very well - when it feels like it. Unfortunately, it’s gotten to the point where it “feels like it” ONLY after we’ve disassembled the <CENSORED> thing practically in its entirety, which was annoying but livable when we had to do it occasionally. Now it’s Every. <CENSORED>. Time. We. Vacuum.

So. Can the DD handle large quantities of long fluffy dog fur? Because that looks stellar - under $60 for a vac! Anyone else want to get in on the fun and recommend a vac that won’t clog up and get its sensitive little self into a twist every time you even suggest to it that it should, perhaps, start SUCKING UP all that <CENSORED> dog fur?
And it’s gotta be inexpensive. We just wound up with about a squillion unexpected expenses; we can’t afford to throw money down the Floor Sucker Pit, especially since the one we have still does work, just not very well.

I have two ultra-sheddy cats, and am rather lax about crumbs, myself. A few months ago, I bought a Dirt Devil stick-vac. It certainly isn’t the deepest clean around, but for $30, it’s pretty damn good. It’s bagless, and the little receptacle needs to be cleaned out more often than I’d like, but I don’t hate it.

My friend bought a $1,600 Kirby from a door-to-door salesman several years ago, and when she moved back into her mother’s house and no longer needed it, she gave it to me. My cats and I killed it in less than a year. I’ve had that Dirt Devil at least eight months, and it’s still working. It won’t pick up larger things (like change), but it does wonders for the kitchen floor strewn with cat food.

That I’d like to be your friend?

S’okay, I laughed even as I cut off the singed parts. I’m just thankful I managed to beat the fire out before my new bangs got ridiculously short. They’re shorter than I’d like, but they’ll be at my preferred length in no time–and I look pretty cute with bangs.

I have one that is part Australian Shedder and part Chow and part fur factory. I also have three small short-haired buff colored ones. I really liked my previous DD and it made it through having it’s cord run over, Mr. Anachi breaking the thingamabob that keeps it upright, and a hose-ectomy to remove a half tennis ball which was lodged in too tight for the usual wire hanger catheterization. And yes, I did use duct tape to repair that. It was several years old and severely abused before finally giving up the ghost. The way I see it, it was worth every dollah I paid. So far–so good with the new one. I’ve also had two different DD electric brooms that I was very satisfied with so there you are.

Thanks for the additional vacuum info. My vacuum is about 10 years old and is…meh. Don’t want to spend too much either because I expect to need it only for area rugs after I take up the UGLY carpet that currently graces my floors.

Well, the nice furnace/AC people have come and gone (it’s been awhile now, even) and my house is on its way back down to 78 or so. I’ve got the (brand new digital) thermostat set to 75, but I don’t know if I’ll actually let it get that cool. About had a heart attack when the AC didn’t come on AFTER they’d run the furnace and elevated the house temp up to 86 or so. Fortunately, it was just some kind of fuse. The unit seems to be working very nicely now. Hopefully it will stay that way for a long long time.

Glad the work stuff is going so well, taxi.

We’ve had some rain recently: night before last and one other day as well (Sunday night?). Things are still awfully dry, though.

Well…I really need to run some errands…

I’m debating about whether I’d rather have a tv and dvd player from my parents for my birthday, or a new vacuum cleaner. I was looking at the cannister Dirt Devil in Costco yesterday. We have a broken upright, all hardwood floors, and two cats. The hose attachment works, but let me tell you about the joy of having to vacuum the whole apartment on my hands and knees, dragging the upright behind me. Yeesh.

So would it be good for hardwood? I would love a Dyson, but I don’t foresee one entering my life sooner than five years from now.

Being able to watch movies at home remains attractive, too. i might ask for the tv from my parents, and buy the vacuum for myself. The cannister 12 amp at Costco was $150 Canadian.

Sssnnniiiffff! Hand me that tissue, would you? We got the virus here at work. The network has been molasses in January slow, so this is the first chance I’ve had to get back in here. But I think it’s fixed now. ::Crosses fingers::

I didn’t have any plans to do the RenFair this year, Draelin, but if I change my mind, I’ll drop you a line. I’ve been there a couple times before, but I’ve never gone costumed, which is odd considering how much I like to dress up.

I always wanted to be involved in the RenFair/Medievel thing, but I’ve never known anyone else who was into it. I’ve had to drag people just to get there as often as I’ve gone. It’s bad enough I only know one other person (IRL) into anime; I’m not quite willing (brave enough) to do the dress up thing on my own, too.

I have no thoughts on vaccuums. I have a Eureka, but I consider it only mediocre.

I’d really love to just go home and blow off the rest of the day, but now that the network is up, I guess I have to do some work.

After my good morning this morning, I’ve done virtually no work for the rest of the day. Ahhh, I love my job. :stuck_out_tongue:

I feel the same way. I was going to join the SCA, but when I called the local chatelaine she really didn’t seem too enthused. Eventually I’ll pluck up the courage and just go, but it takes time.

I did dress up this year and go with my boyfriend who was not dressed up. I made my own costume, since I don’t have any money for those expensive shirts, and went as a gypsy girl. It was a lot of fun…I’d do it again, but probably not until next year.

I don’t know anyone real life into anime but my boyfriend. What kind of anime do you watch?

All the SCA chapters I know are far too disciplined for me. I just don’t have that kind of time. I’m sure it’s a whole lot of fun, and I’d love to get involved … but I have other things to do and I’d rather buy a bodice than make one.

Yay, you hit one of my favorite topics. I’ll watch pretty much anything. Right now I’m watching (with varying degrees of interest): Last Exile, Excel Saga, Samaurai Champloo, FLCL, Get Backers, Licensed by Royalty, Case Closed, Inu Yasha, S-Cry-Ed, Patlabor, Dual Masters, Yu-Gi-Oh and On Piece. The last four or five I just kind of watch because they’re on, not because I really like them. I have seen all of: Cowboy Bebop; Serial Experiments Lain; Neon Genesis Evangelion; Chobits; Haibane Renmai; Now and Then, Here and There; Gravitation; Noir; R.O.D. the T.V; and Paranoia Agent. I’m sure there’s more, but I can’t remember them just now. Plus all the ones where I’ve seen an episode here and an episode there, but haven’t seen the whole series, like Gundam Seed, or .Hack//Sign.

To say nothing of the manga, and I’m still no where near being an otaku.

What does your boyfriend like?
