My brother-in-law is trying to kill himself with the power of prayer

You seem to be forgetting about a certain story about a garden snake and fruit.

nevermind

It also damages other nerves causing neuropathy. My dad has neuropathy in his chest from diabetes, that combined with his blood pressure and other heart problems means (according to his doctor) that it’s quite likely that he’s had several moderate heart attacks that he didn’t know he was having.

Diabetes is a very dangerous disease and anyone who doesn’t get it medically treated and continue to do so, regardless of what they think their god is telling them, is an idiot.

You dumbass. Forgive me for taking this a little personally but my uncle died because of fuckers like you. When people have a life-threatening illness controlled by medicine it is SUICIDE to go off the meds. What you and people of your ilk are doing is no less than advocating suicide. You didn’t stand by my uncle and pull the trigger but you gave him the loaded gun and told him it was god’s will.

I’m trying not to get angry at you about this. You don’t know any better, you’ve been coached. Try to fucking think for once in your life. The next person you spout your garbage at might be someone like my uncle, who could have lived for ten more years! Lived and been able to hug my aunt every night, and see his new grandkids, and been able to have a beer with me again!

I really can’t even begin to understand where you get off telling people that because they have an incurable illness god wants them to DIE. That it’s part of god’s plan! What the fuck?? Think! Use that fucking grey matter your god gave you! Why the fuck is the medicine available in the first place?

If you follow your logic people should stop helping themselves at any opportunity. Got an arm chopped off? Bleed to death, because to do otherwise is to circumvent god’s will…obviously he would save you if he really wanted to because god can do fucking ANYTHING according to you. Driving? Don’t use your brakes because god will pull off a fucking MIRACLE if he sees you’re in trouble.

Stop telling people these things! They are NOT TRUE!

The condition that God cured for me was ADHD, it was cured through prayer, totally and completely, I felt the difference and still, to this day, know there was a difference, allowing me to come off Ritalin. All my life, as long as I remember, I had a ‘brain fog’ that I could actually feel, it felt like I was semi-drunk at all times. God lifted that and cleared my thinking. It was unquestionable and I knew I needed Ritalin no more.

You say that I’m part of the problem, while I make no claim that you can just go off medication through prayer unless something dramatic of God happens. But you try to sell people into bondage, through drugs. How many people are stuck in jobs because they need to maintain their health insurance, trapping people as slaves? The cost of drugs continues to rise, and drugs just maintain, they rarely cure, not to mention the side effects. God does not want this additional burden on your lives.

Friends God IS willing to help if we seek Him. Again I make no claim that He will cure everyone, nor should anyone just accept on faith alone, but only after you get the reply for God that you know it’s Him. And He will provide that.

I’m glad your condition is better, but your philosophy is vile because it can be applied to anything, even heart problems or diabetes. You say something “dramatic of god” has to occur before you go off meds, but people get hugely deluded over that…they have a “feeling” things will be better and they’re wrong. Heartbreakingly wrong. So they make a mistake and do what you are advocating and then they die, and I have to deal with my uncle dying and my father being horribly distraught and a lot of other things that wouldn’t have ever occurred if your message hadn’t been preached to my uncle.

And then you act all holier than thou about it. You have no idea what your god is willing to do or what he’s thinking. Please stop telling people that they should go off their medication, please just stop.

It is also the motivation of asking God, It’s just not Lord please get me off these meds, but Lord I want to live for You, I want Jesus to live in me and through me. It is the motivation behind the asking, and who you put first. God looks at your heart, not your words and your motivation must be pure. Are you just asking for your self, this will not work. You have to really accept Jesus as your Lord, placing Him first.

So you are saying that God chooses not to heal my 9 year old daughter of type 1 diabetes because her heart is not pure?

Please don’t say you’re going there.

Of course not, Juliana; it’s your entreaties to God that have been found wanting…

All right. That’s it. I’ve tried to be nice, but I can’t do this anymore.

Read your above statement carefully. Finding out my child was diabetic and getting her on insulin SAVED HER LIFE. Sure, insulin is not a cure, but she is thriving because of it. Yes, insulin is expensive. Yes, the supplies to test her blood glucose are expensive. Oh, and let’s not forget the extra snacks and supplies she has to have with her add up as well. She has to have a second set of supplies at school so she can go and learn. I have a job, and I’m blessed to have one that I love. It has great insurance benefits. If I didn’t have it, I would be out of pocket over $600 a month for her supplies.

God does not want this additional burden on our lives? Meaning God does not want me to give my child drugs that will keep her alive? What should I do? Should I just take her off the insulin, give her to God, and watch her die? I believe in God, but God doesn’t want us to be stupid.

It’s people like you that give Christians a bad name around here. The rest of us are left behind to try and fight the ignorance you spread.

Up until now I just thought you were a misguided fool. This post proves that you are an unmitigated asshole.

I didn’t think anything of this. The rolleyes told me he was being sarcastic.

What the fuck? Learn to recognize sarcasm.

ETA: By the way, isn’t there some kind of rule on this board that prevents people from giving totally misguided and potentially harmful medical advice? Wouldn’t kanicbird’s utter stupidity fall under this category?

Relax I’m not going there. It’s the condition of the heart and where you focus on. If your focus on God first and foremost, to the point of putting your needs secondary, God works on you and through you. If you focus on something else first, such as (healing) self, or on man’s ability to heal He allows us to follow that path.

We can have a pure heart, but just, mistakenly follow another path.

God does not want this additional burden on our lives?/quote]

No He does not, He hates them, but sometimes they are needed and unavoidable, sometimes He is willing to remove them.

I’m not saying to stop the drugs, I’m saying if you seek Him, He may heal her so that drugs are no longer needed.

Seek the Lord

True

You have someone who is trying to get cured through prayer, what is going to work better:

  • Telling them it’s a stupid idea - really does this work for you?
  • Telling them go ahead do what you want and go off the meds
  • Tell them about someone who God has cured, Let them know that this person who God has cured did not just go off meds, nor does he recommend it, but sought the Lord not the healing, over years the Lord did cure his condition.

Which message do you think would speak to this person? Which message do you think would get through and perhaps even do some good?

It’s called growing up, you dangerous, oblivious, fucking retard! The majority of children with ADHD stop showing signs of it after reaching adulthood.

Jesus Christ! That’s like saying that you had a cold last month and the fact that you don’t have it anymore is god’s will!

Aw, horseshit.

He thinks his fucking sky fairies – who he also thinks has actual fights with invisible demons over control of shit that matters here on earth – means fuck all in the real world. And all his platitudes about how caring he is, is nothing but shit in your face because you don’t pray as well as he does.

Fuck him. He’s an asshole.

Haven’t they actually done studies on the effectiveness of prayer for healing? I seem to recall that the prayed for group did somewhat worse (though statistically insignificantly) than the non-prayed for group.

I remember the opposite, but that there were major flaws in the study (obviously). For example: how do you know that there aren’t people out there praying for your control group?
