My butt hurts!

I know, it’s weird, but I–

OK, stop laughing.

– I have this tremendous pain near my tailbone when I–

STOP LAUGHING!

– when I bend over or sit or stand. It feels like a muscle pain rather than anything else. I woke up with it this morning after a week of general lower back pain. The only thing I can figure out is that whatever hurts was already tweaked from the earlier pain in the week, and then yesterday, my building had a mock evacuation drill which involved walking down 40 flights of stairs. I assume I aggravated it somehow. But I just don’t know what I did!

The worst part is that whatever muscle or other thingy it is happens to be connected to my sphincter, because it actually hurts when I pee, for God’s sake. That just ain’t right. I am officially old and broken.

You’ve been busy in the posterior, huh?

Well, whatever’s wrong with it, I am not going to kiss it and make it better.

You people are completely lacking in sympathy. I am butt-hurt!

Don’t get all bent out of shape.

Sorry, I know you wanted me to stop laughing, but I just couldn’t.

If it helps it was the responses more than your problem. :stuck_out_tongue:

Uhhhm.

Have you seen a doctor?

Do you bicycle alot?

There is a nerve between your testicles and your butthole that can become aggravated. Especially from bicycling on an old seat (not the newer ones with the slit/narrow crevace in the middle).

Perhaps walking down 40 flights when you are not used to it can also aggravate it.

See a doctor.

Please.

I believe that the nautical term is poop deck.

How could you tell I was laughing? Can you see right through the monitor?! :stuck_out_tongue:

Um.
Do you normally walk down 40 flights of stairs? You could have easily pulled a muscle back there in your er… gluteal region.
And for those who want to go to hell with me:

perhaps you have a mild case of Asspergers?

You say it hurts when you pee? I trust you are not having trouble peeing–that is, you can go when you want to and are continent when you don’t. If you DO develop any problems with bladder function, or bowel function, or any numbness in your pelvic area, do NOT call your doctor, call 911.

Seriously. There is a rare (thank Og) but devastating complication of some low back injuries, called “cauda equina syndrome”, whose symptoms include numbness, leg weakness, and loss of bowel or bladder function and/or control. It’s an emergency and requires surgery. Very unlikely it will happen to you, but you need to know the symptoms, just in case.

It’s been just over a year since I blew out the lowest disc on my own spine, and buttock pain was part of the symptoms, so from me, at least, there’s sympathy. The part about “general back pain” and then waking up with fierce pain sounds awfully familiar, except I woke out of a sound sleep with pain that radiated down my leg and created walking and standing problems. No peeing problems, and I’m fine now, thank Og.

If the pain doesn’t improve in a few days, or gets worse, call your doctor. Even if it is just a muscle strain, it’ll be good to know for sure that’s all it is.

Million to one shot, doc?

Well, since it’s near the tailbone and not in the middle of the buttcheek, it doesn’t sound like sciatica. You still would do well seeing a doctor.

Suffering from flaming farts? Have any weird dreams lately? Do you love to singa?

Been in any knife fights recently?

I hope whatever it is doesn’t last too long. I injured my tailbone about 7 or 8 years ago and it still hurts off and on to the point of making it difficult to stand up sometimes. :frowning:

An increased exercise regimen could help build it up and prevent a recurrence. Does your sphincter prefer Nautilus or free weights?

So why are you complaining.

The Pain?

It’s all behind you now.

Yes, and you really don’t look at all as I’d imagined.

For the record, the pain was dramatically lessened yesterday, and continues to decrease today. I’m sure it was/is just some sort of muscle strain. But I appreciate the concern of those of you who thought this was something serious. As for the rest of you… :dubious:
