My Cat Eats Peanuts

About a week ago I left some peanuts on the counter. I came back and found my cat eating them. At first I thought she was just licking the salt, but she actually ate them

I have never seen that before. I didn’t even think cats had teeth that could chew. So anyway a few days ago I tried it again, I put a peanut infront of her and she ate it.

Today I took the test further, she ate a cashew and a pistachio.

I don’t want to make her sick, I was just kind of curious. She eats dry cat food and tender vittles cat food. She will also suck on the aloe plant but that’s it for her.

Is it that odd that a cat will eat peanuts? I mean I could see maybe grass or herbs, I’ve seen them sell such things for cats, but peanuts just kind of cracked me up. :smack:

Just wait til you see a cat eat green beans. That can lead to the questioning of your sanity.

Kitt loves peanuts and especially goes nuts for Reese’s Pieces. Bitey will kill for yoghurt covered raisins. Cante turns his nose up at anything that isn’t cat food.

Cats is weird.

Guinness eats: tomato paste, banana bread, green beans, apples, pears, oranges, bananas, watermelon, pizza crust and bread. The other cats don’t like fruit.

Topolino likes banana bread, cheese, braunschwager, bugs (the other cats just play with them) , and vanilla tootsie rolls (this was found out because we caught her sneaking them from the halloween candy bowl and chewing on them).

Scooter likes all dairy products even though dairy products don’t like her at all.

Denali seems to only like carnitas and his kibble.

They get the above non kitty food very seldom. They eat thier dry kibble… and like it!

Some cats will eat just about anything. One of mine is particularly fond, beyond the usual tuna and chicken, of butter, parmesan cheese, spaghetti, peanut butter and Worcestershire sauce. If I let him have a go at it, he’d probably be very sick.

But the biggest thing for him is olives. Just smelling them drives him, er, nuts.

My wife’s cat eats green beans, peanuts, and loves those small marshmallo’s.

My cat won’t eat tuna. But she loooves to lick the spoon I’ve used for the dog’s wet food. To quote my vet: “Cats are weirdos.”

I used to date a woman whose cat seemed to love spaghetti - but only if I were eating it too.

So far, Maggie has eaten, or attempted to eat:
-french fries
-corn chips
-potato chips
-popcorn
-lettuce
-toast crusts
-tuna salad
-cookies
-crackers
-pumpkin loaf
And Buffy adores lemonade.

My oldest male cat likes tortilla chips, potatochips, as well as figs/fig-newtons. I haven’t ever given him beer, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he liked that too.

My young-adult female cat just demonstrated to us last night why the boys can’t leave their glasses of milk un-attended: she sticks her paw down into the glass, dunks it, and then licks off the milk. (all prior cats gave up on glasses, once they learned they couldn’t fit their fat lil heads down into the mouth) I’ve explained to them that unless they like equivolent of drinking out of the litter box, they need to keep their drinks close to them and supervised until they are finished.

My big kitty luuuuurves him some peaches. Also any bread (although he’s especially fond of croissants and Italian bread from the pizza/pasta takeout place), oatmeal, mashed potatos, and maple syrup. He won’t eat bacon or milk, though.

His sister has a passion for pizza grease from my husband’s pepperoni slices and any dairy product, including (but not limited to) cheese and fudge ripple ice cream.

I once had a cat who had a serious jones for Thin Mint girl scout cookies.

Cats is weird.

I had a cat that ate cheez puffs. I left the bowl on an end table and a minute later I heard <crunch crunch crunch crunch crunch> I turned around and there was the cat chewing with one side of his mouth.

Our other cat tried to eat the powdered sugar out of an Entenmann’s box. It was sitting on the kitchen table. She got up on one of the chairs, and reached a paw up, hooked a corner, and knocked the box to the floor. She batted the box around a little, and then figured out that she cut cut the plastic in the middle of the top with her claw. The she stuck her head in. As soon as she did, she realized that she couldn’t get back out. She jumped in a circle twice and then started running, into the chair leg, the table leg, and then the wall. At this point, she jerked her head the opposite way, and the box fell open. She looked at me through the top and meowed once, as if to say, “Oh yes, laugh it up. Just wait til you see what I do to your shoes.”

I’m big on having a quick spoonful of peanut butter when I need calories fast; imagine my chagrin when my cat Stretch tried to help me with a spoonful of chunky peanut butter. The little weirdo also enjoys olive oil, pumpernickel bread and matzos.

Try corn cobs! There’s nothing like a cat who has gone monster vicious nuts over a corn cob.

My cat eats a certain bird organ from birds that he has killed, but I don’t know which organ that is. We just find dead birds in our garage that appear to be mangled in the same fashion every time , like some sort of ritualistic homicide. We concluded that the cat is searching for something it likes in the bird, but we’re not sure what it is!

What’s intriguing is that this cat kills all these birds despite his front feet being de-clawed. And, he is the sweetest and nicest kitty ever . . . and then goes out and massacres birds and rabbits.

Do cats have teeth for chewing? I thought they just tore the meat into little pieces and swallowed it. My biggest concern was the cat would choke on it.

I figured cats would like cheezy stuff and milk. I don’t give my cat milk just once in a great while I’ll give her cream as a treat. She loves that.

But I didn’t realize cats had the teeth to chew.

I think they can chew. Kitta free feeds on dry food, and I hear her chomping away at night. Haven’t actually seen it, but it sure sounds like chewing.

She’s probably going to be very ticked off that I’ve posted such a scary photo of her. She’s actually very sweet.

Peanuts are about the most sane thing I’ve heard of cats eating. I have a cat that prefers frozen peas to tuna fish, will chase you down for a bite of your salad and for whom we have to keep the tomatos covered on the counter. Another adores the juice from Roma tomatos. Only Roma tomatos. If you give her a cherry tomato or a beefsteak tomato, she will turn her nose up at it. Roma tomatos she will kill for.

There is also the slew of obvious cereal, crackers, butter, bagels with cream cheese, etc. But anybody who was under the impression that cats only enjoy Fancy Feast and fresh cream was sadly mistaken…

Oh, and I forgot to mention-Maggie LOVES donuts. She’s been known to chew through plastic bags to get to them.

Hell, **I’ve ** done THAT!
