My Cup Runneth Over - A Stanley Cup MMP

The weekend has begun. After naptime.

Moomm it can’t hurt to get on the wait list for the slip with parking. You can always say no if you don’t want it when the moment arrives.

Nettie it’s nice of you to volunteer at the shelter like that. I didn’t know that was a thing.

shoe details on tattoo please!!!

doggio I think you can include naptime in the weekend.

No idea what we’re doing, except for praying to gods above and below that all fires set by fireworks are extinguished quickly.

Note to self: Pesto is delicious but it is not your friend.

We had a good group at the park this morning. All of our core group was there except for Barky and Humpy. Some of the new dogs showed up too.
Not bad since we had a little rain.
It was only in the 70s but really humid. Now it’s close to 90.
I think the heat is bothering Echo, she was a little grumpy but too tired/hot to do anything about it.

My son got out a little early today.
He’s been irking in a different department and my friend told me management over there likes him because he ‘follows instructions’. He should be paid more for irking over there. He hates it, but told me if it’s more money he would consider the transfer. He thinks he is not doing a good job, but my friend said she watched the video and he is doing a great job. I’ll have to tell him and hope it builds his confidence a little. It will be good for him anyway; he can’t get one of the cushy office jobs or into management without experience.

We have to go get groceries around 5. Last week I had them delivered, and got a HUGE order because if I’m going to pay a delivery fee it’s going to be worth it. If I had a bigger freezer we wouldn’t have to go today.

Front yard has been mowed (I’ll leave the back for tonight when the sun is on the other side of the house) and just getting up to put on the swimmin’ trunks and head over to the gym. 91F today so not in a hurry to do much more outside until it cools down.

And you just can’t hide it…just don’t lose control when they start inking…

OK, if I’m going I need to get and go. All y’all take care.

Just finished breakfast; cubes of tuber, deadpig strips, and cackleberries.

I saw the FedEx truck drive by, and thought I’d better check tracking. It said my package had been delivered. I didn’t see him! But sure enough, there was a box outside the door. We now have a new coffee pot. I’d just made a fresh pot in the defective machine, so I set the time (Yes! I can set the time! And the delay time! And the clock is clocking!), rinsed the new urn, and transferred the fresh coffee into it. I’ll run a pot of water through it later. Then I’ll have to wash and dry the defective pot’s urn and basket, wipe off the outside of the maker, and package it up for return to the seller. I’ll get a refund when they receive it.

No flying objects from me, females of all species can be horribly bitchy, and I say that as a woman.
Quite a few of the female dogs at the park don’t get along with other females.

It’s nice to volunteer Nettie.
Our shelter is asking people to foster kittens, but I don’t know with my dogs. I know they would enjoy playing with the kittens, but they also play a little too rough.

I think Zorro needs a kitten. They would be about the same size, for awhile at least. Zorro would like a play buddy and my other dogs are way too big, no matter how well intentioned.

(TMI warning)
It’s not my favorite word, but it used to be my favorite activity.
Now that I’m old, my favorite activity is ‘nap’
(/TMI)
However, I find that I don’t much worry about what other people think of my language these days.

But what are you gonna drink the second day?

We haven’t had much fireworking around here the last couple of years. Hope that trend continues. I don’t much care for loud noises these days, (unless I’m the one making them).

Wifey says we’re gonna fly the flag this weekend. Like somebody said recently, I don’t think the U.S. deserves a birthday part this year, but then, I haven’t felt that we deserved a party for the last few years either. On the other hand, compared to a lot of other places I’ve been, it’s still pretty damn good.

We subscribed to Britbox last month so we’re now caught up on Midsomer Murders and we’re catching up on Silent Witness and Death in Paradise. We’ve also discovered The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix, so our entertainment is assured for the next several evenings.
Something I’ve noticed about British crime dramas vs. Merikan crime dramas is the Brits have plenty of gruesome murders, but a lot less gunfights (and car chases). I know they say that people can tell the difference between ‘entertainment’ and reality, but having (inadvertently) seen some tRump rallies, I’m afraid there’s a large segment of the Merikan population that’s unclear on he concept.

I’ve lived in Orygun so long I’m not sure when I moved here. I do remember that Tom McCall was governor then, so probably '74. We lived in our previous house for 33 years. This one will prolly be our last, or my last anyway.

There’s half a Costco cheesecake in our fridge and I can’t eat any of it. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: I’m deathly allergic to milk, as in ‘anaphylactic shock’ allergic. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Life is so hard.

ISTR growing up that the worst quarrels we had among our dogs were between the girls. About the only way we could let two or more girls into the yard to play at the same time was when we had one very dominant male who would NOT tolerate such things and would jump in to referee. If he was out there with them, they behaved. We had several males who could be out playing together just fine.

Speaking of pet squabbles, Buddy’s annoying Allie today. I think he just wants to play (I saw at least one effort to catch her tail), she’s NOT interested. His estimated age is about 7-ish, Allie’s 11. I think she’s getting to cranky elder territory and he still behaves a good deal younger than his probable age.

Nope, I’d definitely want you to sit right next to me.

Aww, mumpers are the best!

Thank you. They are also kid and dog proof. Mom had them in the back yard for over 30 years. Nobody ever ate them and died and I don’t remember anyone (human or canine) getting in trouble for damaging them.

/sally fields/That’s less than a cup of coffee a day!/sally fields/

It’s so sad when our pets get scared and we can’t reassure them. flyboy, has Abbey shown interest in your bedroom closet? We let VBC hide in there when we are having work done on our house.

It’s good of you to volunteer nettie. I hope you are able to provide some comfort to them.

Come on over, we loves ya, man!

Suddenly I’m seeing you in 80’s style big hair.

Pics required as you know!

I think it could work out very nicely. GG started out smaller than VBC but is now much bigger than her. It was good that she got him when he was small enough for her to teach him how to play without hurting her. She was also able to teach him to leave her alone when she didn’t want to play.

They are best buddies, which is great.

OH NOOO!!! That is terrible. Are there any cheeses you can eat? Are you able to eat out, they use milk products in so many mass produced food items. If you can’t have cheese cake, you probably can’t have ice cream either. I am so sorry for you.

He is probably feeling better than he has for a long time. He has a safe place to sleep, plenty of good food and nice people who give laps and cuddles. Street kitties have to be constantly vigilant because its not safe out there. Now that he can relax, he is feeling younger than he is.

It was quiet again last night. There is going to be a candle/prayer ceremony at the junction tonight, the large police presence will probably keep things quiet tonight as well.

I went up the road to a spot where I could see the I17 last night and traffic was bumper to bumper. Despite gas prices, I was seeing a bunch of RV’s and toy haulers. Holiday traffic was bad when I was working, it looks worse now.

We have ravens out here and usually they are alone or in pairs. There are a couple of tall Douglas pines in the yard behind us that have a lot of nests so I see the ravens trying to raid the nests on a regular basis.

Today, there were at least 20 ravens in and around the tree yelling at each other. I don’t know what was going on, but I could tell that they were NOT happy about something. After about 10 minutes, they all flew off in different directions. I will never know what I saw, but it was pretty interesting.

IMGUR is being a butthead (or possibly it’s my phone) but … it’s done, and y’all, it’s beeeeeyoooootiful. I will post a photo once I can get a free image hosting site to play nice.

Didn’t even hurt THAT much.

OMG so happy.

I’m about to head to the gym and then the pharmacy. I’ll also do my usual Sunday little grocery trip today, as tomorrow there’s apt to be even more booze-swilling drivers. Someday when we’re all together, I’ll tell you about the time years ago when I was taking a walk and a drunk driver targeted me. We both ended up in the ditch. Thank G-d I’d left the dog at home.

It’s lovely and cloudy. I hope there aren’t too many fireworks by me this year. We had some last night. I texted the office this morning because they didn’t send out the usual no-fireworks-in-the-complex reminder, but they still haven’t done so. Why can’t people just watch the professional displays? They’re much better and usually free.

This cracked me up. But wait, wasn’t it that other Sally who did those commercials? The All in the Family one? Dang it, can’t think of her name.

nettie, I love that you’re volunteering. I hope you get to do a little petting. If I were a dog in a kennel and there were boom-bangs going on outside, I’d want some reassuring snuggles.

Bumba, you poor guy. I hope you get a nondairy cheesecake soon. I had some once that was pretty good.

flyboy, yay for new coffee pot that does cool tricks!

Aw, thanks.

I don’t drink coffee…

We’re home, pooped, but somewhat accomplished. I even persuaded FCD to let me get into the engine room and trace/remove some wires. We’re trying to figure out why, when they removed the old autopilot, they left the wires there and attached the new autopilot wires to the old ones. Stoopit!!! So the old ones are now gone. There are still 2 unidentified wires that we need to trace - a chore for tomorrow.

A conversation my daughter had with my granddaughter:

So the other day Roxy and I were chatting, and she’s been interested in family ties - who my parents are, who TJ’s parents are, etc. Well, she asked who my brother and sister were and I told her that I didn’t have a brother or sister. She said, “You don’t have a brother or sister because they’re dead.” I explained to her that they never existed, so they couldn’t be dead. You have to be alive to be dead. Then she chimes in with “Your brother and sister are in jail!” Um, ok. Where’s this going? I ask her “Why are they in jail?” she says, “They pretended to exist, but they don’t so they’re in jail.” Right. Got it.

I don’t know whether to be amused, disturbed, or terrified!! Don’t most little kids just have imaginary unicorn friends??

Gotta figure out what, if anything, to do for supper. Not sure if I’m even hungry or not, but I know I will be if I don’t have anything.

Sally Struthers.

As for fireworks, we haven’t heard any around here, and generally we hardly hear any anyway. We shall see over the next few nights. Or we shall hear. Or not hear, as the case may be,

I don’t mind when towns do fireworks. I do mind the idiots blowing off half sticks of dynamite cuz they like to hear things go bang. The last barn kitten was adopted and Mama Cheeto got spayed. She will live at the barn. She made it clear she wanted nothing to do with living in a house.

Brain like a large gauge sieve, that’s me. It’s nice to have company

How convenient is that? You’ve already saved enough money to pay this years rent!

I was hoping for another storm today or tomorrow, but it’s clearing up enough that my hopes are gone.

Hubs just downloaded the beta version of the newest Diablo game, so I won’t be seeing him for a while. I’ll probably be hearing him though, beta means it probably still has bugs. All that swearing we were talking about? He doesn’t need booze, all he needs is a buggy game to keep him going all day.

It’s almost 5:30pm, and so far there has been no thunder or rain here (though I did briefly have a “severe storm” notification on my cell phone). My iPad’s Weather Channel app thinks I might finally get a storm in a couple more hours, but with my luck it’ll keep missing me. I need to remember to take the doggy out back before then, though, just to be on the safe side, because once an evening storm begins she usually doesn’t want to go outside for the rest of the night (even after it ends).

I’m not ready for dinner yet, but I’m starting to think about what I might want. Lunch was a beef burrito, some mandarin oranges, and some sesame sticks. I think I might have some more sesame sticks right now, then a later dinner that involves the container of “tropical fruit” (strawberry, kiwi, and a couple of types of melon) I bought yesterday…or, at least, some of the container. I also bought bananas, but they’re still a little green around the edges. Sometimes I wish I could just have fruit for dinner. I’m crap at eating veggies, but I love fruit!

I started with Acorn about a month ago, but recently also subscribed to BritBox after realizing there isn’t actually much I’m interested in on Acorn. I already had Death in Paradise on my watchlist, but thanks to you I just added Silent Witness.

Only S21 of Midsomer Murders is available. Generally I don’t like starting an existing show so far into it, but I hear a lot about this one. Do I need to have watched seasons 1-20 in order to “get”/enjoy it?

Yay!!

From here:

While Williams was playing pretend restaurant with his students, one of them decided she was going to be the owner, the server and the chef. “I won’t lie, her restaurant was, like, kinda lit,” he joked.

When Williams was ready to order his final dish (a piece of pie) and get the check, he finally decided to look over at his student’s play kitchen — and what he saw was rather disturbing.

“I look over … and I see that all of her baby dolls are just sitting on the stove,” he explained. “And I was like, ‘What are those doing on the stove?’ And she very flatly was like, ‘I’m cooking.’ […] She looks at me and goes, ‘Are you hungry or not?'”

The earlier seasons of Midsomer Murders are on Britbox too. You just need to know how to get to them.
If you click on the Icon and go to where you can start the episode(s) of season 21, on the bottom of the screen yu should see ‘Episodes and more’ or something like that.

Click there and you should be able to pick the season you want to watch, all the way back to season 1, Ep 1.

You really should go back and start from the beginning, but you don’t have to.
Midsomer Murders is kinda light hearted, and so is Death in Paradise.
Silent Witness is kinda grim, but we like it.
Another one we liked was Unforgotten.
You might also try New Tricks. One of my favorites, but Wifey doesn’t like it.
