Howdy all. Swimming and sauna have been accomplished, and decided that Sunday dinner would instead be Saturday lunch/dinner (lunner? dinnch?) so off to the Metro Diner for their meatloaf at around 3pm. So home and well-fed, will probably cut the back yard around 7pm or so, and maybe treat myself afterward to a Butter Pecan waffle cone. Pairs of fake diamonds and rubies (Four Jewel Lie) festivities are due to start at the park about 9pm, it’s 3 miles away so I should hear it clear enough. Been relatively quiet so far in the evenings around here, but I expect more accompaniment in conjunction with the Big BaDaBoom…
FCM, kids imaginations can go a lot of places we grownups don’t. Hope the last two wires are easy to trace…long as they aren’t connected to a left-over bomb…
So don’t worry.
Family reunion? they can often end up the same way…
OK, need to add some caffeine to my bloodstream and plan the mowage. All y’all take care.
Nope: I click on “seasons” and the only option is Season 21. Maybe I’ll see if the earlier seasons are available somewhere else.
Do you mean Unforgiven? I’ll give it a try!
Already tried and liked.
The other new-to-me shows on my watchlist are Shetland, The Mallorca Files, Shakespeare & Hathaway, and Puppy Love.
Old favorites on my list are A Bit of Fry and Laurie, All Creatures Great and Small, Are You Being Served?, Doctor Who, Downtown Abbey, Fawlty Towers, Luther, Rebus, The Duchess of Duke Street, The Office, and W1A.
I’d laugh, but I have a family reunion coming up in three weeks.
In a sudden burst of domesticity, I loaded and started the dishwasher, hand-washed a couple of things that didn’t fit, scooped the cat box, and hauled a bucket of scooped poop to the garage for transport with the rest of the garbage. Then I showered, because after today, I was pretty grubby. It’s amazing how good it feels to be clean.
Chillage till bedtime, then a return to the marina tomorrow.
It’s half-past 15 o’clock. We didn’t go paddling today. Just as well, the tide’s only now coming in. But I didn’t get any exercise today. I could go for a walk, but SWMBO likes to have dinner early and I need to get the fish in the oven in half an hour.
Howdy Y’all! Before I type the next sentence, y’all may want to grab your clutchin’ pearls and have your faintin’ couches nearby. I was productive today. The ribs and chikins got smoked, I made N.O.T. sallit for Moanday, pimento cheese for sammiches to be taken to the church house tomorrow for first Sunday brunch (we’re doin’ a picanic theme), and made a sup of green beans, smoked chickin laigs, and mac & cheese. I don’t know what got into me! It was as if I had been possessed by Betty Crocker. Of course this means I will have to double down on sloth for tomorrow to keep my average up.
Good on you for reading to the critters seanette. I concur with the choice of James Herriot.
swampy, tomorrow is the sabbath, therefore, sloth is commanded.
I’ve begun the orginazation project. Oy vey! Everything is out right now and looks a mess. It was organized before, but I was outgrowing the system. I should be able to complete this in the next few days.
Due to various factors, such as darkness and frustration, I accidentally ran across a road divider last night. It was one of those that was raised, “pointed” like a house a child draws, made of concrete. Any chance that when I ran over it with my 2000 Civic, it scraped anything on the bottom that will need attention sooner rather than later? I’m due for an oil change anyway.
Of the others you mentioned we’ve seen and liked Shetland (you may need to turn on captions though) I had a hard time with the accents first time through. Also Rebus, which I liked but Wifey was a bivalve about.
Branzino filets, olive oil, kosher salt, sprigs of rosemary clipped from the plants (also from Trader Joe’s), lemon slices. Bake in a pre-heated 400º oven for 20 minutes. Green beans cooked in olive oil margarine and kosher salt.
Mrs. L.A.'s filet was smaller than mine. I offered her more, but she declined. ‘If you give me more, I’ll eat it. Then I’ll get sick.’ I said, ‘Oh! So my cooking makes you sick!’ She said no, she likes what I cook; but she can’t control her stomach. For almost a year now, it seems, her stomach has been sensitive. That’s why her weekday meals have been yoghurt and popcorn lately. Goo helped me eat my fish.
ETA: Oh… I had a copy of Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (1965) in my eBay basket. It was $10, but I got an offer of $8 so I bought it. I’ve only seen it once, but it has an MGA, a Triumph TR-3, and a Porsche 356.
Oh joy, my garbage disposal decided to die. I installed it shortly after moving in, 24-ish years ago, so I suppose it’s done a good job. But, it could have just died and not sprung a leak.
I hate plumbing. Crawling into difficult spaces, yucky water, and if you screw up you have to start all over again. Much rather do electrical things. You know if you let smoke out it’s bad, but that’s the end of it. I don’t think there are any electrical slow leaks.
On the bright side, this will give me a chance to connect the switches properly. It has been that the disposal won’t work unless the light is on. Some asshole (me) hooked it up wrong.
Flyboy Good on Goo for helping you out with the fish, and hopes to Mrs LA that the stomach troubles go away soonest.
Can I get in on the swearin’ and day drinkin’ party?
She can be a little insistent in her begging. She’s starting to reach out with her paw now.
I was concerned the new coffee maker wasn’t shutting off after two hours. I read the manual, and it said it would keep coffee hot for ‘up to four hours’. I’s run a pot of water through it, and when I checked it just now it had turned itself off. On one hand, two hours isn’t quite enough on my telecommuting days, On the other hand, four hours seems too much.
She has one up on her Facebook page, it’s quite a nice thing.
Back yard mowed and Waffle Cone assimilated. LIstened to the fireworks going off, the Ol’Mom Nature added a few booms of her own, we may be getting rain in the next hour or so. We’ll see.
And that’s about all. Catch up with all y’all on Sunday.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and mostly clear (mostly moony?) with a predicted high of 90 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse this afternoon/evenin’. We shall see. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization followed by first Sunday brunch. I have Slackolyte/Assistant duties this mornin’ as we shall do Communion from the Reserved Sacraments. The rest of the day shall be spent in high sloth and uselessness mode.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
But there are intermittent faults from, perhaps, a loose connection, and those can be a booger to figure out. But you’re right about letting the smoke out - FCD opened the MPD (multi-purpose display) that failed and confirmed that he did, in fact, fry it. He could smell the dead electrons before he finished opening the back panel. Turns out he kinda let the disconnected DC power lead get across a live AC terminal. POOF!
I did hear a few muted pops and such last night, but not many and not for long. Sorry you’re dealing with too much.
FCD woke early and tended to the critters, so when I got up, I just had to feed myself. I did take the opportunity to dump some water on the pot of Chinese Lanterns that have been self-perpetuating for several years. They got droopy yesterday, and I decided they needed a second drink this morning. I also pruned the potted rose - it was getting out of control! It was supposed to rain overnight - hah! I should probably turn on the sprinkler for my veggies, tho the zukes don’t need any encouragement! They’re out of control!!!
No rain forecast today - just hot and muggy. We’re heading back to try to figure out the autopilot - it’s the last of the instruments that needs to be shaken out. The tricky thing is that they are all networked (except for the radios, since we don’t have the fancy AIS types that work on a network) and we’ve never had instruments that talked to each other. It’s not too complicated, but there are little quirky things that we’re figuring out as we go along. With luck, this will be the end of it. Then there are just 2 more mystery wires, and one may just be an abandoned ground wire, so no biggie. Yeah, I know, you’re bored by all this…
In summary - hot, humid, boat work - just like most of my recent weekend posts.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall clean, then sloth. It’s humid enough that “Princess Pretty Paws” balked at going outside this morning.
Forgot to mention, I’m no longer wearing my wedding ring.
Well, not till I can get it resized anyway…
I took it off the other day when I was poking around in the circuit box (basic electrical safety) and it was difficult getting it over the knuckle. Stoopit arthritis! I don’t want to risk it being cut off, so I’ll be taking it to a local jeweler to be resized.
It’s actually my 3rd band. I lost the first one when I was preggers - I’d moved it to my pinkie because my hands were swelling up. While working in the yard, flinging weeds, it flang away and I never found it. So after I delivered and my hands got back to normal size, we got a replacement - the same ring was available. I wore it for a number of years, but it was a wider band, so when my hands got wet, the area under the ring never full dried, and the skin started getting weird.
So 15-ish years ago (maybe longer, I don’t recall) I just ordered a plain gold band on line, and that’s what I’ve been wearing ever since. Unfortunately, the stoopit arthritis is affecting most of the knuckles on my hands. I’m hoping it’s not too expensive to stretch it a bit - the ring itself was just something like $125.
But in the meantime, I guess I’ll be fighting off all sorts of men hitting on me… because that soooooo happens all the time when I forget my ring…
