My Cup Runneth Over - A Stanley Cup MMP

We finally unpacked the last boxes yesterday from our moving saga. It still all has to be put away, of course. Only two real problems; in the last box was a glass art piece by the Tlingit master Preston Singletary which had broken due to someone nesting another bowl inside of it. That’ll be a $2500 claim against the company. The other victims are my Sonos speakers. All three are missing in action.

There was some excitement yesterday. We hear a lot of sirens here, as there is a fire station right down the road and a major arterial that goes by the building. Yesterday, the sirens stopped very close to us, and looking out our 3rd story window we saw several cop cars parked next to a grassy median. We couldn’t see what was happening, but when a crime lab car pulled up I assumed it must be a death. When the ME car arrived, that confirmed it.

We had a move that was a disaster due to idiot packers. They nested glass together without padding or paper between, they dumped a bunch of little loose stuff into a bigger piece without even pretending to contain them. They crushed several lampshades. They broke a large ceramic piece my BIL had given FCD some years back. And one box with my recipe box and (interestingly) my Kahlua completely disappeared. So glad we won’t (I hope) be moving ever again.

Morning all. Was looking forward to sleeping in, but up about 7am anyway, so either I am in better shape than I thought after yesterday’s exercise or I’ll be a candidate for nappage this afternoon. Scattered tunder-boomers and 92F today.

My water bill came (electronically) today and I’m not a happy person. As I’ve mentioned before, it went from 1,100 gallons in April to 5,300 gallons in May and 9,700 gallons in June, when I called in a plumber and payed to get the system examined and fixed. That was in the first half of the month, so I expected it to decrease some…and it is now showing my July bill for 15,600 gallons!! Heck, my house would have floated away by now! Will have to wait until Tuesday but then I’ll be visiting their offices and registering (perhaps slightly loudly) a complaint.

Sorry, just had to get that out.

FCM, hope the ring can be resized without too many problems.

{{shoe}}, mine was fairly quiet with the thunder rolling around last night, if the weather stays dry I expect much more noise today and tomorrow.

OK, need to finish the morning’s internettin’ then considering going to the gym for a morning bike ride (might as well be sweaty before bathing), we’ll see what develops. All y’all have a good day today.

Cookie, excitement like yours can pass on by, I do remember seeing the ME across the street once but not quite that level of excitement. And sorry for your breakage, not sure how long it has been since your move, hopefully it is within their claim time.

FCD is installing the engine room blowers. I’m handing him tools and stuff. Teamwork!!

They give you nine months to file any claims, so we’re good on that.

Good morning everyone.

Jeebus, Metal Mouse, I would be pissed too, so rant away! That’s just ridiculous. It’s almost like your block is siphoning water from you!

I ran to Home Depot yesterday and picked up nine bags of organic raised bed soil, each bag contained two cubic feet of soil, so they pretty much filled up the cargo area of the Jeep. I also purchased a tamper. I was going to pick up some pavers to finish out the area my son-in-law started, but those things weigh 36 pounds and are large and awkward to handle. I’m going to need my husband to come and help me. I’d like to finish out that area with the pavers so I can quit weeding it.

I need to do some serious pruning today, and although temps won’t exceed the mid-sixties, we have a 50 percent chance of rain too. I also need to go to the nursery to get plants to fill up the raised bed planter. I don’t have a real plan in mind, so we’ll see what ends up going in there.

Sorry to hear about the mover damage, cookie.

There were a good amount of booms last that carried on until around 2:00 this morning. I wasn’t thrilled, but nothing I can do.

I’m glad you like your tat, shoe! I hope to see a pic of it soon!

Okay, stuff to do, places to go. You all have a good day!

Every year the cops claim they’re going to step up enforcement of illegal fireworks, but it never seems to happen. Being close to the beach, my neighborhood is pretty much non-stop boomers every holiday weekend, and the 4th of July ramps things up especially.

I don’t really mind. From my spot on the couch I can see some of them out the window, and it’s kind of fun to watch. The kitties will raise their little heads when they hear a pop, but otherwise it doesn’t seem to bother them much.

Cookie, hope the movers come through and pay the claim. Is the piece something that can be replaced?

Last time we moved, the mirror on Mrs W’s antique vanity/dresser got broken. The movers paid for its repair with no hassle. That was the only issue. I’m hoping our next move goes as smoothly.

Speaking of which, our new house is starting to look like a house! Our closing date is estimated to be around mid-February. On the one hand, I want it all just to happen already; on the other hand, I want to linger here in San Francisco as long as I can. It’s kind of a weird dichotomy.

Sorry about the move-related losses, Chefguy!

We did wind up finally getting a storm last night, but it didn’t deter the local fireworks: they began nearly as soon as the rain/thunder/lightning ended. Happily, far enough away to not bother either me or the dog. We’ll see what tonight brings.

I had some of the “tropical fruit” with dinner, and I was wrong about the container’s contents: turns out there were strawberries, pineapple chunks, mango, and kiwi. Even though I don’t mind mango- or kiwi-flavored things, I learned that I don’t care for actual mango or kiwi…weird, right? The strawberries and pineapple were awesome, though! And I had a banana, even though it was a little soon. I love bananas.

So far I have started the laundry, ordered some stuff from Amazon, and “balanced my checkbook” (i.e., reconciled my June bank statement with my Quicken file). It’s not even noon yet, but I think that might be the most I accomplish today.

Aha! The earlier seasons of Midsomer Murders are “included with [my] Prime membership” – but only S21 is available through BritBox alone. I’m glad you said something: if I decide to tackle that show, now I know where to start!

Also included with Prime, but not through BritBox alone.

:astonished: That definitely sounds like a water company problem/issue…

Nice! Is that a mountain in your new back yard?!

I missed that safe step once:

Metal Mouse Yoiks! That water bill is outrageous! I would complain too.

Cookie I’m sorry to hear about your artwork. I imagine that’s hard to replace.

wheelie it does look like a house. Congrats!

Not quite in the backyard, but yeah, there are mountains all around, and a spectacular view of Lake Las Vegas from the clubhouse.

Happy Sunday!

It was a soggy 70 degrees at the park this morning. I would have been more comfortable in long sleeves.
Not too many showed up, no surprise with how messy it is.
Poor Sky is afraid of Echo. I feel bad.
At one point they were playing until Sky got scared and took off with Echo hot on her ass. Echo was playing, but I guess Sky didn’t know it.
Remus got over it, I hope Sky will too.

No Barky or Humpy, but there is some different shit going on there.
I guess I am blind to things sometimes.
The other day somebody asked me about the daycare. As I was answering him, Barky mom, who was sitting next to me, started yelling at another dog up by the water fountain. That owner was filling the bowls and every time he set a bowl down, his dog would play in it and spill all the water.
There was no need for her to yell at the dog, and it meant the other person and I couldn’t talk because we couldn’t hear each other.
I had noticed a few days before that I was asking a newbie about his job. His face lit up and he was telling me about a program he was in, something about the state paying for his master’s degree if he teaches for so many years or something like that. Barky mom jumped in, which of course it is an open conversation for anybody, and kind of shut me out of it. I saw the look he gave her but just gave up in the conversation.
A few days before that I was talking with another newbie, and the next thing I knew, Barky mom jumped in and changed the subject and the two of them were off on something I know nothing about.
Not that I cared so much, except I’m seeing a pattern.
So, I asked somebody else if they had noticed that Barky mom seems to want to shut me down when I am talking with people other than her. She looked at me like I had just grown a new head and said of course she had noticed, as has most everybody else. I asked if it was only me, and she said no, she does it to one other person too.
Interesting.

The park is closed tomorrow, so one friend invited a few of us to his house for a playdate in the morning. I’ve been once already, and he has a beautiful yard, with a fish pond. It will be interesting to see what the lab does. Ripple wants no part of it, Echo will stand on the rocks and look at the fish. I’m afraid she may fall in.
His wife just put a gender reveal out on FB, so it will be nice to see her again and celebrate a little. I have to drive past Krispie Kream, I wonder if they will have any blue frosted donuts. I’m really happy for them, they are such a cute couple. They used to take in foster kids, the difficult ones, so I know they will be great parents.

I may or may not go to my mother’s afterwards.
She called me last night and sounded horrible. She said she didn’t want any company, but then said family is okay.
Well, that’s decided, she just called and wants us to come see her.
I’ll have to figure out something to take, food wise.

There are similar motifs, but nothing exactly like it. This gallery has a lot of his pieces.

I tried again with Imgur (the only way I know to post photos here) but their site is still giving me the scrolling wheel of death.

I’ve posted the ink to the Book of Faces, and anyone who wants a friend request from my Mumpers is absolutely offered.
Sorry, I wanna post here (it’s sooooo pretty, I wanna brag everywhere!) but technology seems to be against me lately.

Also … gods, I hate summer. So many Michiganders are, like, “Oh, yay, summer!” and I’m dying in front of Coolio going, “Oh, gawd, I can’t wait for winter!” and living off weed & popsicles.

57º Ferret height, and raining. The rain is supposed to continue, turning to light rain around noon, until 13 o’clock tomorrow. Should be partly cloudy by the time things start to explode.

Ten of the clock, and breakfast is finished. I made pancakes and bacon for the Spousal Unit, and I had an American cheese and jalapeño omelette, bacon, a sausage patty, and a V8.

Garbage disposal replaced. The sciatica did not enjoy that. I was planning on slow grilling some ribs today, but I don’t think I wanna stand up that long.

Sahi (sorry, can’t remember your proper nick) Sounds like Barky mom is barky too.

Oh, yeah. It’s trash-and-recycling day. That’s why it’s raining.

@misnomer, Midsomer Murders is available on Amazon via Freevee which used to be IMDB tv. There are commercials. Acorn gets you all seasons ad free.

I’ve been binging Night Court lately via Freevee. Loved that show.

Trash and recycling are out at the street. Old coffee pot is in the trash. ‘New’ defective coffee pot is boxed, with a note taped to the (product) box with packing tape that says ‘Clock - Inoperative’; ‘Delay - Inoperative’; ‘SAFETY HAZARD - Auto shut-off Inoperative’, and the UPS backup barcode on top, the box put into the shipping box, and the UPS label put on.

I should take a shower and pick up some meds. Maybe pick up something for dinner. Or not.
