My Cup Runneth Over - A Stanley Cup MMP

Morning, mumpers! It’s 14c/58f out there today, mostly cloudy, which looks about right since I can see sunshine and clouds from the office. Weather app says “I wish it were colder or warmer because at least that would be fucking interesting”.

Boo love the new hairdo, I think it could catch on!

Flipper hope your mum’s appointment goes well.

Sunny I think I must have missed whatever happened to Hubs and his toe, I hope he recovers soon.

nettie glad to hear Maintenance turned up and did the fixings. Plumbing leaks are a right 'mare.

{{{{{shoe}}}}} just because.

Right, after the excitement of yesterday, I had better delve into the inboxes and see how many students aren’t happy. First email of the day was from a student who got a First and wants to know what she can do to improve her marks. Err…maybe we should invest a First+ degree just for her? This does not bode well for the rest of the day…

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 72 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 93 and mostly cloudy for the day. TWPTB also say rain will move in overnight. We shall see. Today is laundry day. I can hardly contain myself. Sup shall be grilled chikin sallits and cheesey garlic bread cause it’s easy to do plus tasty. We shall accomplish the usual sloth, nappage, and general overall uselessness as well.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

When we had our new HVAC installed, one of the guys left a cell phone behind in our basement. I found it when I was sorting laundry and it rang. It was on a weekend, so I messaged the company and the tech showed up next work day to claim it. I didn’t answer it because it just felt weird. Plus it was a work phone - I wasn’t about to deal with an angry customer!!

Roy Rogers is featuring a portobello/swiss burger. It was very disappointing. DQ used to have a mushroom/swiss burger that was quite good, and messy, but it’s off their menu, alas.

Cousin Itt:

Just throwing this out to everyone: once you left school, how often did your marks come up in situations that mattered? I’m not talking about BS sessions with friends or reminiscing about school days. Apart from occasionally running into someone who bragged about their average long after they’d left school (which tells a bit about their life since graduation) I don’t think it ever came up. And yet when we’re students, it’s what we live for!

A combination of a noisy feline and an insistent bladder woke me before 5, and by 6:30 I gave up trying to sleep again. SIL will drop of the babby in about an hour, and the fun will begin. I’m trying to convinced FCD to stay home and rest today - he’s so banged up from working on the boat. But he’s also stubborn, so I doubt I’ll succeed. I’ll have Roxy here for supper - maybe I’ll make meatloaf and invite my daughter to stay also.

I need to inventory my fridge. Just this morning, I found a container of cottage cheese in the back with a sell-by date of May 23. Yoiks! I think that’s a hint. I guess that’s a bit of a plan for the day.

Happy Tuesday!!

Yes… sorta. Where “RV” = “7 year old travel trailer pulled by pickup truck”, not “Huge Luxury Bus”

Sorta long version:
We’re retired and college-aged daughter was traveling to month-long internship in N Carolina. At her request, we combined our (already planned) trip to that area with her, and provided both escort and overnight digs at each stop along the way. She followed us and her (+dog) spent each night in the RV with us. Safer, we could eat dinner together, her dog was with familiar people (easier to integrate to new area), and… if something went awry with her AirBnB*, we were 2 miles away in the campsite providing a back up until sorted out. Original plan for BF to make the drive back home with her fell through, so we elected to just stay the entire month exploring the region – and reconnected with her for the trip home.

So we spent the month wandering around the areas of Beaufort, Greenville, Hatteras, Currituck, Blue Ridge, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.

*Stayed in a family’s spare room – lots of unknowns but it worked out great.

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently around 55 degrees with an expected high in the mid to upper sixties because of the very much appreciated cooling marine layer. It was 94 degrees when I left work and arrived home yesterday. That’s too hot for this PNW’er.

Temps reach the mid to upper sixties today and tomorrow and then it warms a tad with sunnier skies. Frankly, I wish it would dump on the 4th, but I know that won’t happen. There will be fires, there will be idiots, and there will be a mess to clean up, none of it my own.

Work was the usual; fixing other people’s messes, in addition to meetings, my third quarter performance review, and bringing the director up to speed on last week’s happenings since she was gone.

Today will be much the same. Rah.

In good news, it’s a short week and a long weekend. I’m going to concentrate on that.

That’s a nice-looking trailer, pulllin. I’m glad you and the Mrs. are enjoyed your trip and I hope the current one turns out just as well.

Hugs, yays, boos as needed to everyone.

Have a great day!

Morning all. Only getting to 88F today, but while it’s cloudy there is only a small chance of rain. Parts of my yard are getting brown so I may have to get the sprinkler out again. We’ll see.

Outside of that, nothing much on the agenda for today.

Yanker, nice pictures, never been a camping person but looks like you’re ahving fun.

FCM, no Roy Rogers around this neck of the woods, I kinda miss them even if they weren’t all that great. And yeah, grades are nice in school but never that big a deal in the real world, IMHO.

Unknown, I’d probably be right with GG, except I don’t have as much hair to stick out…

OK, this is stationary biking day, may make 2 trips to the gym since nothing else is pending. All y’all take care.

Morning all.

[curmudgeonly rant] When I was a student back in the dark ages, I don’t recall a single one of my contemporaries or their parents ever complaining to a teacher about a grade, much less requesting a change. You got what you got and you moved on, happy or not.
I’m sure it happened now and again, but surely not as much as it does now. When and why did it become so common? These privileged kids today.
Get off my lawn! [/curmudgeonly rant]

Back to irk today after 8 vacation days. Don’t wanna. Yesterday I did one load of laundry but otherwise remained slothful. Took not one but two naps. I still feel pretty beat but I’m sure it won’t take long to fall back into my regular routine. Besides, only two irk days until my weekend, so I can’t complain too hard.

Happy Toosday everyone!

I’m back all over again. We had the offsite last week. As predicted, people started testing positive two days after it ended, including one of my employees with whom I spent much of my time and who was sitting next to me for most of the meeting on the first day. So, swabbing the boogers on a regular basis and wearing my KN95 around my mom, who really, really wants to hang out.

Theoretically we’re going to the beach this week - yay! Unless, of course, I test positive. But I guess that’d get me out of seeing my father in law. Got to look at the bright side of everything, right?

I need to waddle, then be productive. This butt isn’t getting any smaller, and neither is my workload.

Pullin your trip sounds great. I’m glad you’re able to spend that time together. We tried it a bit, and it didn’t work out for teenager reasons. We may try again in a few years.

talky How is your mom doing? I hope you dodge the plague.

Waiting for housecleaner/friend to arrive. Now that I’m seeing better, I really don’t need the service any more, and with inflation rising, it’d probably be wise to save the money, but I think she needs the income, and she’s been very kind to me, so we’ll just see how it goes.

For me personally? Grad school apps and resumés. For most people, it’s really a matter of whether you’re entering a highly competitive field. If I can say on my resumé that I graduated magna cum laude from a good school or graduated in the top 10% of my class, that can make a difference. And of course, it can make a BIG difference if the student is applying to grad school in terms of whether you get accepted and if so, whether you get a fellowship or TA-ship. Outside of those, it really doesn’t. “D stands for diploma,” as the kids say.

pullin, looks like a great time! I like the ever-vigilant watch dog.

wordy, hope you test negative and can get to the beach!

taters, hope today goes by fast. Yay for long weekends!

Other than that,

After struggling unsuccessfully with the Minnesota DMV website form in order to mail in my application for car registration, I gave up and went to the DMV itself today. I trudged up to the building (unmarked, of course) in dread and, after asking someone where the DMV was in the building (there’s no sign), descended into the dank cellar where a line was waiting outside the door. Turns out, you can make an appointment for all their services and not have to wait in line, but the website doesn’t tell you that.

To my surprise, we saw someone almost immediately and the process was fairly painless. In and out in about 30 minutes with new plates in hand. They’re only good for one year, which seems completely backward, but at least there is no emissions test required. $200+ dollars, plus they nail you for a service fee for using your credit card. Next up, we have to study for the written test for a MN license.

So far okay - thanks for asking!

I do worry that she’s a little depressed, and us leaving for a full week probably will not help. She also tends to get nervous close to another doctor’s appointment - it’s scary anticipating what they might say. Fortunately they have free resources for cancer patients and their families to help deal with the emotinoal fallout (it’s pretty common), especially when the care is palliative.

I gather First is as good as it gets? Sounds like Hermione needs to relax a little.

When I was a student a few years ago, I did (very politely and respectfully) ask one professor about a bad grade, since I was sure I hadn’t done THAT badly. Turned out he had missed part of what I had turned in, and once he found and graded that part, my grade improved dramatically.

I also asked an instructor about a bad grade and learned that I had missed one little part of the equation and gone off down a rabbit hole. She said my logic and conclusions were correct for the problem I was solving but not for the problem she had set.

I learned a LOT from that. Other than that, my grades were usually what I was expecting.

I love your weather app

Mine just says its really hot. 96F.

That sounds wonderful. I’m glad you had a great trip.

That’s too hot for me and I live for the heat. I’m also hoping for heavy monsoon storms for the 4th, there are way too many yahoos out here.

I’m sorry. At least you get to drive a train for a while, that’s gotta be worth putting shoes on.

I really hope you stay negative. I will say that hubs didn’t suffer nearly as much this time as in the past. I understand that most fully vaxxed folks get much lighter doses then unvaxxed folks so if you do come up positive, maybe it won’t be so bad.

I don’t blame her, she knows that at this stage the news won’t be good. This has got to be so hard :frowning:

I’m in the orifice today.

There was a bag of chicharrones on my desk. Half a pound. One of my cow-orkers got them for me. The thing is, the price label says ‘QQ Hot Pot’ and ‘Woori Market’ on University Way. I googled, and they’re both permanently closed. I know the deadpig skins aren’t that old!

I took up a box of Trader Joe’s Cookie Butter sandwich cookies for my cow-orkers. I hear they’re tasty. (The cookies, not my cow-orkers.) I did this even though they didn’t finish the key lime shortbread cookies I bought last week.

I get really stiff, sitting at my desk in the basement. I ordered a ball to sit on. I had one in the orifice before the last orifice, but I don’t know what became of it. Anyway, next week I can put on my Ska playlist and bounce to the music as I irk.

So this is happening a couple of miles away. Crazy.

butters, are your new beds raised? I envy your sunny yard. I’m stuck with mostly plants that don’t bloom because I live on the shady side of the building.

doggio, when I irked in a bar / restaurant, one of our more popular sandwiches was a veal, mushroom and swiss burger. It featured local veal and was quite tasty.

Today, things were much better at irk. I asked my lead about changing departments yesterday, or at least switching to the salvage side of the department (different supervisor). Magically, once I completed a quick job in special projects, I was sent to the Apkudo machine (I love working with the crew there) to cover someone doing orientation and then to the power down station (easy work that I did for a few months). I’m hoping that this is the new norm, given that I’m in a better headspace when I don’t work for a supervisor who tells us how badly we suck on a daily basis (to be fair, she’s good at doing paperwork for time off and when I did my old job, she was very cooperative).

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Are these also a Trader Joe’s item?

Aye. Ignore the Amazon price. They’re $3.99 at Trader Joe’s.

Must go to TJs soon. Love key lime anything.
