I lost my own Dad when I was a child. It left a gap in my life that I feel every day, despite having a great mother and big brother.

Having lost both of my parents, I fully understand your grief. Please make sure you keep a close eye on your mother. The loss of a spouse is the highest stress inducer there is.

Another set of condolences. It’s such an odd feeling when somebody who has always been there is not.

I’ve almost lost my Dad a couple times…the guy is a miracle of modern medicine walking around. His Dad died of stroke complications when Grandad was only 65, and my old man was so worried about that mile marker when he hit it last year.
My Dad had his first heart attack at the age of 40, in 1981. Back then the technology for heart bypass surgery was fairly rudimentary compared to now. He’s had a second heart attack on the operating table while the docs attempted to stent one of his arterial grafts from the early eightes (it was successful) and he had two-thirds of his right kidney removed in 2002 due to malignancy.
He is still alive by the grace of God, and I am not a longstanding member here, but I feel you.
I wish you the best and hope that your Mom can live a number of years without her husband (my Grandma lived for 28 years after Grandad died, and lived a productive, active life for those years).

I am so sorry for your loss. I had four people (yes, I count my dog as a person) die in 2007, all for various reasons (health related, drowning accident and suicide). Please accept my condolences at this time.
