Bear, my shephard mix dog is sick. The vet says his liver functions and white count are off. He must go into the vet hospital for a 24 hour IV antibiotic and cathater. They think he has an internal infection. SO and I are just glad it can be treated. We have no human kids yet, just our cannine ones. Bear would apreciate all of your best wishes, and frankly so would I.
Oh! The poor little nupper! Please give him a hug and a kiss for me.
There is nothing that bothers me more than to see a dog in pain. I have been fortunite enough never to have had to deal with that with one of my dogs. My sympathy goes out to you, your SO, and Bear. May he soon be chasing gophers again…
Give the guy a fake noogie for me. If you smile and talk in a [shame] baby voice [/shame] while you deliver the fake noogie, I’ve found that usually cheers dogs up. If he’s not there yet, and if you are allowed, you should take something to put in his cage with him that he is familiar with. Something like a favorite toy, or even better, a shirt of yours or your SO that either of you have worn. Poor Bear… I hope everything turns out ok.
awww!! I agree with steve-o… comfort the pup and use his favorite voice of yours (they all have one! :)) and do make sure he has something he can lay on that smells like you or familiar if he has to stay overnight.
Best wishes to you and your pupper from me and my beloved canine companion.
You’re doing everything a human companion can do. (I’m flashing back to the harrowing “Broken Arrow” thread.) Bear has excellent medical help, and knows you (the pack) are pulling for him.
Having a solid, warm, loving pack to come home to is a great motivator.
Wishing you well, from 2 and 4 footed,
Veb
Dave, me, Watson-wimpdog and Molly-alphafemaledog are all pulling for ‘Bear’ to get better soon, they know how awful it it is to be parted even for a day away from your pet people. Best wishes!!
Dog People Unite!!
Buddy, Molly and Mickie are all very worried. Even the cats (Iggy,Polly, Twilight,Phydeau,Cueball, Snowball,Lefty and Bear) are looking a trifle unsettled!
Thank you all. I dropped him off this morning. They think he may have infectious hepatitus, which I know nothing about. The house seems strange with out him here. I’ll keep y’all posted.
Here’s hopes for a speedy recovery.
Poor Bear! May he be healthy and happy again soon.

Crease extends her furry love and good vibes toward the Bearmeister.
And give him a tummy rub for me! We’re thinking about him!
My dog and I send our very best wishes. B_Line was right-- send your dog a piece of your clothing (like a sock tied in a knot) so that he can smell you. That will be very comforting for him.
Dogs enjoy hearing their names, and it’s even better if you sing it to them. I use the Spam song from Monty Python when I sing to my dog Bean. ("Bean, Bean, wonderful Bean . . ") She really seems to like it.
Give him extra attention and love . . . he’s going to be a little stressed out, and anything you do for him will be greatly appreciated.
What a cutie, and those are a couple of great looking cats too. Hope your baby gets on the mend quick; it’s scary and upsetting to see them with a serious illenss, but you’re doing all you can. Very positive thoughts from here.
Dragonlady - you have a cat named Iggy? I always wondered if there was another one out there. My beloved Iggy Lee died last year, after thirteen wonderful years as my cherished kitty. Mind telling how you arrived at that name?
I brought Bear home this afternoon. He’s doin O.K. The vet said his liver enzimes and white count were headed in the right direction. We have to give him antibiotics and take him back in a week for another blood test, but he has been acting like himself, except he seems a bit tired. I’ll keep y’all posted.
Glad to hear it!!! I just told Spot and he wagged his tail joyfully.
as am I. All the best to him.
I’m not really sure. After I get an animal, in a day or two I just know what it’s name is. Iggy, short for Ignatz. I tried to get my daughter to name his brother Abercrombie, or Abernathy. Iggy and Abby, just sounded right to me. How’d you come by it?
Glad Bear is home; tired but among his humans/pack and recovering. Me and my furry companion (stretched out and sleeping, paws twitching dreams) wish you and yours the best.
People who lack the wit, grace and humility to co-exist with other species are to be pitied.
Rest, healing and love to all under your roof,
