Our selling realtor insisted we repaint and recarpet in greige. Many places we looked at were redone in greige. We asked our buying realtor what people did when they bought a house. She said they ripped out and repainted all the greige. It’s a big capitalist scam that benefits only paint and rug sellers as far as I’m concerned.
We got around this by offering a “carpeting allowance” and raising our asking price by that much. It worked for us! I wish we’d had that when we bought this place, which had orange-and-yellow shag in the den and industrial blue berber in all the common areas. Bedrooms were red, green, and gold, respectively, and the tiled floors were hideous. At least the walls were all boring off-white. We remedied all of that in short order.
