Well, personally, I think the best way to end a nice fall Saturday is with a bowl of warm soup. Luckily, I have a pot of cream of parsnip soup simmering on the stove. It smells like heaven. I never realized how sweet uncooked parsnips were though. This is the first time I’ve worked with them, and they just smell so unique when you peel them. I’m serving the soup with an english muffin with either peanut butter or cheese, I am still deciding which. Once I taste the soup, I’ll see what goes with it better.
Other than that, it was a nice quiet day. Did a bit of driving, looking for a good farm stand, but the one I went to just didn’t impress.
I got a catalog from the Vermont Country Store. They have some neat old fashioned stuff in there. But one product really caught my eye. It’s called Tired Old Ass Soak. Just in case you all didn’t believe me I looked it up online, here’s a link.
I wonder if it’s any good? I could use something for my tired old ass.
Wow – I’m 3 pages behind here! I’ve been very busy with exceedingly mundane pointless life stuff.
Mr. MP invited a fellow non-trad student who is also a former Marine & bull-rider to dinner on Friday. He’s also a former professional chef. Those are some extreme career changes, to my mind. USMC, damn fool, chef, civil engineer . . . Nice guy, very gracious about my cooking & hostessing skills. His next career will be actor.
Then Mr. MP needed new dress up clothes. These are bad things to need in a rural shopping area, when he needs 22 x 38 (52 chest & 38 waist, but suits can be ordered and tailored), so we got to drive to Missoula. On the other, I am easy to fit, and there were some really good sales . . . I have 2 pretty new suits, 3 gorgeous sweaters, an absolutely stunning pair of slut shoes, new winter boots, and a turquoise leather briefcase! My visa card didn’t even melt or anything!
Back from dinner. Went to a chili-cook-off/fundraiser, which was fun. Had several very tasty chilis (chilies?). And some very tasty cornbread and cookies, too.
Parsnip soup - sounds yummy, susan. Can you share the recipe? I never even knew I liked parsnips until a couple years ago when my friend found a recipe for creamed parsnips (I think that’s what they were - I have the recipe somewhere).
eleanor, don’t worry about the OP. You can do pretty much anything with it and the rest of the crew is sure to hijack it in some direction you never would have imagined. Somehow, the TMI pretty much writes itself.
I think my under-the-weatherness is major allergies (now with fun sinus and bronchial complications). I’ve been taking antihistamines, but apparently it’s time for the industrial strength ones for a while. I’ve been taking the medium-strength ones…
I’ve never been to a Chick-Fill-A. I think their name is weird (it was years before I figured out how to pronounce it). Also, no one I know raves about it. So I may never bother…
Tired Old Ass Soak <snerk>
My tea should be done by now. (Tonight’s tea is blueberry - yummmm.)
Amazing how those VISA cards won’t melt. I sometimes think it would be a public service (to me, at any rate) if they would…
When I let the dog out this morning, it was 34 degrees. Brrrrrr. Supposed to hit upper 60s today, so that will be nice. I did bring in my spider plants the other day - they did beautifully out on the front porch - hope I can keep them alive in the house till spring. I also hope I didn’t bring any spiders in with them - I don’t need webs adding to the dust and disarray of my house!
I still haven’t changed any of my clocks - there’s a fun chore for the day!
Should I awaken my sweetie and take him to breakfast? I think I should!
Well, I finally did some gardening. I planted a butterfly bush and a grape holly, as well as some daffodil bulbs and some tulip bulbs. I also found out why my veggie garden was so sucky this year - it was only 6" deep! It encircles the old well, and apparently the previous owners didn’t want the concrete apron, so they put up edging and filled it with dirt. Unfortunately, it doesn’t drain well, so the stuff I planted didn’t do well. We’ll just go ahead and get rid of it. So much for having a ring of tulips <sigh>
Oh well, I still got to play in the dirt. It was a lovely day. Yay.
I want me some “Tired Old Ass Soak.” It sounds loverly.
donkeybear not that I would know from…err…umm… coughexperiencecough but I hear that sometimes, in straight bars, there are men who will… (well, use your imagination)
I’ve never had parsnips. Can’t find 'em in stores around here. I’ve even looked cause I wanted to try 'em. What’s a bear to do!
Today has been a day from h-e-doubletoothpicks for swampy. Lots of recovery from the big Hallowe’en doin’s last night.
However, I did make it to church. Loud organ and a hangover do not mix, in case anybody was wonderin’.
Lookin’ foward to eleanorigby’s MMP tomorrow. I just know it’ll be the bestest!
I’m really surprised you can’t (cain’t) find parsnips in Jawja Swampy. I thought they were pretty much a staple in the South. I like 'em myself, but Wifey isn’t interested, although she did like clapshot when she tried it, so maybe someday.
We’re at the beach on a very slow dial-up connection, but I’ll try to check in in the morning to see what y’aa are up to.
I have complete faith in you Eleanor, you’ll do great.
I’ve accomplished very little today other than getting rampant allergies under control, more or less. Took the industrial strenght anti-histamines. Had 2 different kinds of chicken soup (I am SICK of soup, but it really helps with the congestion). Bought the new pseudoephedrine-free decongestant. Seems to work OK. Steamed my face.
I know, it’s an exciting life.
You’ll be fine, Eleanor!
They had parsnips at the grocery today, but I passed on them since I’m not likely to cook them at the moment… Maybe next week - they looked really fresh.
Well, there was a lot less fondling then my experiences in gay bars. That, and any… activity on my part would have left my friends stranded 30 minutes away from home. (And before anyone comes down on me for drinking and driving, I had one shot, and we were there for at least 2 hours. So there.)
I ate my 2nd pomegranate ever today. It’s getting easier to get all the seeds out without spraying juice everywhere.
Elenor (heh), you’ll be fine. Just compose it ahead of time like all of those other cheaters.
Also - I watched Grey’s Anatomy for the 2nd time tonight, and I cried. It was intense.
And on an even more depressing note, I’m out of Kleenex. I know I could use toilet paper, but I don’t want to go all the way to the bathroom to get some. Oh well, no masturbation for me tonight.
