Thank you for your time and attention. I have called you here today to address a significatn issue that effects all conservative posters on the SDMB.

But before I get to that, I need to address something first.

Elucidator, what the hell are you doing reading this? I said conservatives only. Can’t you take direction? Stop reading, and get the hell out of here.

December was a dickshmoe. He broke the rules a lot. He made us all look bad. He didn’t do us any good. His presence was not constructive.

He was banned because he broke the rules, lots and lots.

He was not banned because he was a conservative.

But, let’s just pretend for a second that he was. Let’s say it was a deliberate thing. They went after him and banned him simply for being a conservative.

Why the hell are you whining and complaining about it?

Listen to me. Are you whiny liberals, or are you stoic conservatives?

If you wanna go and whine about how unfair it is then you can’t be a conservative. It’s that simple. You’re supposed to be tough.

The conservative protocol on this is clear. You are supposed to smile. Nod polite agreement, and then plot your revenge and ambush them when they least expect it, in the finest conservative tradittion.

Stop your whining.

It’s not true. They were not out to get him. He made his own bed. He is taking personal responsibility for his own actions.

But, like I said, it’s not true. The moderators are not out to get conservatives. And, I can prove it.

What is the ratio of conservatives banned to liberals banned?

I’d heard a rumor to that effect. (Kept my mouth shut about it until now, though.) Pity they won’t sell to you, manny - I think this board could be only mildly money-losing if someone of reasonable intelligence who actually gave a flying fuck about it were in a position to simply make the necessary decisions.

As regards your OP, I don’t necessarily think that the late lamented was banned simply because of his ideology. I do think he was banned for things that would not have got him banned if he were a flaming liberal.

Part of it was his own fault. I think that if he were going to be a conservative here, and especially if he was going to create that thread where he posted the quotes from the Clintons and let everyone assume that it was Bush, he should have been extremely careful to be sure every single word of the OP was literally true. He was not, and therefore the screaming from those he suckered was another factor in getting him booted out.

He should have expected that they were not going to take kindly to being embarassed.

My experience is that, if you are a conservative here, there is a certain level of shit you just have to tolerate that you don’t get if you fit in. There is nothing that can be done about it - or rather, nothing is going to be done about it.

Or maybe conservative isn’t exactly the right term. They don’t necessarily pile on to all conservatives - yourself, Sam Stone, Dewey Cheatum Undhow, IzzyR being some of the examples that spring immediately to my mind. But if you are not nastily anti-Bush, or if you are a Christian of any stripe but the most broadly liberal, or express a hint of support for the Iraq war, or question in any way or to any degree anything that any gay poster wants or thinks he should have - get ready for the snarky comments, the drive-by comments, and an immediate Pitting (or personal attacks in GD) if you show the slightest sign of weakness.

Frankly, that’s why Collounsbury lasted (and kept getting let back in) as much as he did. He wasn’t exactly a liberal, but he hated Bush enough to be a member of the club.

Yes, I know the mods claim they don’t care what your ideology is. But when was the last time anyone complained that someone got banned for being too liberal? When has that ever been perceived to have happened?

It’s a left-wing board. They swear up and down that they aren’t biased, but it is the same as when the mainstream media claim they aren’t biased. They usually can’t see it. They just think they are right, and therefore any other point of view is wrong. It isn’t biased to tell the truth, is it?

december broke the rules, and he was a conservative. He would not have been banned if both those things were not true.

It’s their board, and they run it the way they do. I can live with it. I don’t have to pretend it is fair, but I can live with it.

False attribution got both Sparticus and Aceospades, IIRC. It’s true some stuff can be gotten away with once or twice, but December was prolific in his offenses.

I don’t think so. I’ve crossed swords with some gay blades on occasion. Some of it was real rough. I am left with very high opinions about the majority of gay posters.

Yes. December’s history got in the way on those occasions when he made worthy and thoughtful posts.

I think it’s unreasonable to expect that after he made an object lesson and a clown of himself that he would be taken seriously.

Notice that there were periods when he did clean up his act. He started to get taken seriously again. Then it was back to the old tricks.

Frankly, it rarely did me any good to be on the same side of an argument as him. He was not a good spokesman for the ideas and thoughts we shared in common. I’m glad he’s gone.

They brok the rules less over a lesser period than December and they got banned.

How long do you think Reeder will last if he doesn’t clean up his act?

I don’t believe the Staff has ever banned anyone due to politics. Never have.

Well, OK, but we don’t have all that many conservatives to spare on the SDMB. Like they used to say about the Chinese, if we kill ten of them for every one of us, they will win in the end.

Bottom line is that I am sorry to see him get booted instead of cleaning up his act. I would dearly love to see some right-winger who could drive the lefties crazy, but toed the line so he couldn’t get banned.

People were angry with december before I got here. I refuse to search that many threads to truly judge his body of work. I guess I hope he wanders the internet wilderness for a few virtual months and comes back hand-in-hand with Collounsbury whistling a happy tune in the New (peaceful) Palestine.

This is a fact that cannot be stressed enough. Liberal hippy bleeding heart socialists whine and complain and demonstrate, and bother people on the street, in what is ultimately pointless self-gratification.
