My greatest influence - an early MMP

We need QD! Who else is in line to be the MMP Purveyor of Lingerie Wisdom?

It’s half an hour away from hometime for me, and tonight I have the dubious pleasure of taking Shadow to the vet for his first lot of vaccinations, a bit of poking and prodding, and a discussion about when he’s getting his bits chopped off. Poor boy. Luckily he will be getting some fish as a treat tonight - we’ve already discovered his liking for pilchards in tomato sauce, last time he wolfed them down and near took the pattern off the plate as well.

Both the cats will be heading for the [del]cathouse[/del] cattery at the end of February and they won’t accept him without a current vet’s certificate to say he’s been vaccinated. So to the vet we go! Envy me…

I’ve had chillblains, but then, I have Raynaud’s as well. Chillblains ain’t fun–didn’t know about the arnica, though.
I am home from all the lab tests–it took an hour. That is not bad at all, considering the number of people in the waiting area. I was pleased.

I think I need to talk to the library people re a real job. Even a PT one–that pays more than minimum wage. I had been kicking around the idea of staying at the hospital through the summer, but that is not possible now. My problem is that I live in the moment–and it takes days like yesterday to remind me that just because the nastiness isn’t in my face right now, doesn’t mean the nastiness is gone for good. Guess I was lulled by the lower census and the lack of managerial presence lately. I need to GO–and most likely not in June, but in May (I have to stay until May-I took out a 401k loan for grad school).

Oh, for a lottery win right now! But, I don’t even play it, so…
Off to get gorgeous soon. I had class Monday and I really like this professor a lot. She is practical, funny and smart. Nice combination.
Weee! I can edit! I have nothing to edit, though…but wait-how do you make it say “reason” or do you just type that in? Gah…

The very top line of the edit screen says something like: “Reason for editing”

It does? I will look now…Aha! I see it now! I am stupid and need glasses. Sorry!
thanks.

We did our burns at the Fire Academy, in what was called the ‘burn building.’ It was all concrete and steel, and they’d burn excelsior for us to put out. No real houses or anything fun like that, except when we did car fires.

Yeah, Hazmat is pretty much a given, but when I did it, it was tacked on with EMT. One week of Hazmat and then the five weeks of EMT - I did it as a crash course.
The Hazmat refreshers are pretty easy. “See this stuff? It’s bad shit. No touchy. Stay away and call the Hazmat guys.”

Morning, all. Or afternoon, as the case may be. I stayed up late AGAIN getting that other job done – see, Swampy, I was a good girl, didn’t post here again till I finished it! – and took about twice as long as I should because I was just so taahhred! I came far closer than I like to hitting the wall, which is not good when there is a looming deadline. But I finished it, and today I have a nice, boring congressional committee meeting to work on.

Congressional trivia of the day:

Question: How can you tell it’s a new Congress?
Answer: There’s only two congresspeople NOT attending a full committee meeting!

Palebunny was lovely and let me sleep in really late this morning – I didn’t get up till 10:45 – and I feel almost human again now. Large quantities of caffeine have been applied, and food is next; and then I have to put on something besides my comfy PJs because sometime between 1:30 and 5:00, the FIOS people are coming to do our (free) installation of our new FIOS digital TV. On which we will get 250 digital channels of Nothing To Watch for $10 less per month than we pay currently for 75 analog channels of Nothing To Watch with the competition. Plus we’ll finally get cable properly installed into the entire house – it’s currently a conglomeration of homemade runs, so that it’s all split off of the single (!) incoming cable input in the living room. Can you say Picture Degradation?

Emily, She Who Must Be Obeyed, was REALLY PO’d last night when Papa Tigs went to bed earlier than I did. She does NOT approve of me staying up past her bedtime. Plus she absolutely LOVES the quilt that I’m using as the bedspread now that I’m making the bed every day (see: Slob Reform thread). So first she fought him every inch of the way taking the quilt off the bed. Then, when she failed to block its removal, she walked down the length of the dresser deliberately knocking everything off she could. When Papa Tigs came out laughing his ass off to tell me what she was doing, she had moved to the end of the dresser and was working very hard to knock his suspenders on the floor off his tie/suspenders rack.

I love cats!

So anyway, off to get dressed and prepare to have the pups get all excited with New! Friends! coming to Play! this afternoon. Life is so uncomplicated when you’re a stupid dog!

The poor kids in our community work-study program who are wanna be badasses just don’t stand a chance. I mean when the director of the program as well as the program manager misspent (mispent?) their youths being badasses and reprobates, there really ain’t nuttin’ the poor kids can do that we ain’t done ourselves.

Case in point. A kid’s mother calls saying her son had not received his last two paychecks. (Uh huh… right…) A quick look see through on-line banking reveals that not only had he received said checks, both checks were cashed at a liquor store and endorsed with his name. Now, nice people would not have stated that fact in front of the seventeen year old kid and his momma, but we ain’t nice people… nope… not at all. Let’s just say, be glad you ain’t that kid and don’t have his momma for a momma right now.

It’s little success stories like this that make me realize my efforts at keeping the check imaging systems alive are worthwhile.

How much you wanna bet Momma went to that liquor store to pick up a six-pack of Whoopass for the kid?

Well, youze guys got money  We don’t have a fancy shmancy ay-kad-ummie
for our edjumakashun. One other department in the county has a portable house via DHS grant, and I suspect that is what will be used. Everything in our region is done throught one of three community colleges.

Rumor has it that we’ll burn a house soon. There’s no shortages of spectral manors 'round Mayberry.

The thing that POs me the most is that I filled out the registration for the fire house class and wrote my check Monday night, and put it in the mailbox before bed. Tuesday after work, I get the call that the class EMT is a go… If I had dawdled 18 hours, my anxiety level would be exactly 1/2.

w00t! w00t! w00t!

The 2 formerly feral kittens that VWife has been raising since Turkey Day, who I’ve recently dubbed ‘Piss’ and ‘Vinegar’, have found a little girl to own via PetFinders. We drive then to Virginny Beach tonight.

I despise driving home from Portsmouth, and then having to turn around to come back for any reason, but for this, I’ll make an exception.

Have I mentioned in the last 30 seconds how much I loath cats?

AAAAWWWWWW…Vundy --you’re nothin’ but a big ole pussy cat your own self. You know you love 'em…you’ll miss P & V when they’re gone!

<runs>

PAHAHAHAH. Oh man. Your cat is hilarious. I can feel her glaring at me for saying that.

Work proceeds apace. I may actually survive the week.

[Maude]
God will get you for that.
[/Maude]

gotti I have availed myself of your efforts many times, always with resounding success.

I got a feeling momma’s gonna put the beat down on that liquor store for cashing her seventeen year old son’s checks, too. I can’t help but wonder if he also was able to purchase fermented beverages. It may be an ok thing for a liquor store to cash a check for someone under age for all I know. Just looks mighty suspicious. :dubious:

One of my favorite means of entertainment is the liquor on a late Friday afternoon. My local favorite liquor store has two lanes devoted solely to check cashing on Friday’s. If you buy fermented beverages, the check cashing is free. If you don’t there’s some type of charge, I’m guessing to be ten to twenty bucks, maybe. Ergo… lots of fermented beverages get sold.

Jahdra, I have to agree with MBG. In that second picture the kitten is definitely plotting revenge.

Hugs to all who need them, and a whack with a clue by four to some bosses.

I have to go to the feed-n-seed for 4 40lb bags of pine pellet stable litter (a/k/a cat litter) and to the post office. And a buddy may need a ride home from the dentist if they drug her, so I need to get off my butt and get dressed.

AOL news had a blurb that the Duke rape case prosecutor (Nfong) may be disbarred. Probably won’t happen but he sure deserves it.

Later~!

Scruffy was a raggedy stray that we’ve seen around our neighborhood for the last few weeks. Last week, we took her in, took her to the vet and groomer, and made her part of the menagerie. Bernie is still here, none too happy about the little interloper. Brandy is right pissed off because Scruffy can fit thru the cat door and she eats cat food if we don’t watch her.

I was just on the phone with the vet - I had to reschedule Scruffy’s surgery. So on Fri, Feb 2, she’ll go in to have the tumors removed. Unless they’ve already spread to her lungs, in which case, we’ll just take care of her till the end.

And I’m home early because honest-to-goodness, I had nothing to do at work. My report is waiting to go thru QA, and that wasn’t even going to start till this afternoon. I just couldn’t stand it any longer, so I left. I did ask my boss about getting more work, but he said the decisions have not yet been made as to who will do what… Your tax dollars at work…

I just pulled out a hunk o’beef to finish thawing. I think it’ll be rotissed and served with a salad and some veggies. That’s as productive as I can manage to be for now.

Don’t forget about how much traffic there is around Greenbrier as you head east on I-64W until about 6 or 6:30. Where at in Va Beach are you headed?

264 and Independence. The traffic there is just as bad…

Oh yeah.

You may want to consider getting off at Indian River, drive by Pat’s Big Mansion, take the Ferrell Parkway to Independence, and go that way, depending on traffic on I-264.

I’m finally caught up!

I’ve been to take my son to get his partial plate. It didn’t fit that great, and after much grinding (and gnashing of teeth - heh!) we had it “relined,” so now it fits. We went to eat Mescun food after, and it was tres nummy! I was starving, because I skipped breakfast thinking it wouldn’t take two-and-one-half hours to pick up a damn partial!

So I’ve been surfing the Dope, and now I’m gonna go make some beef stew. It’s prolly not as good as The King of Stew’s stew (you know who you are!) but it’ll be tollable. (That’s “tolerable” for all you non-Southerners - hee!)
