Sloth checking in. No, my resume’s not finished yet. Sean, I don’t have an actual date, but I thought buying the clothes for one might inspire me. There’s a speed dating thingy next Tuesday…but it’s $30 to register. I’m thinking about it.
Well, dang, Rebo you bein’ a southerner and all I’m sure you make just a fine beef stew. Ya know, beef stew is one of those things you actually have to work at to screw up. I mean, one can throw just about anything in a soup or stew and make a good one, right? I just happen to make a dang fine one, is all.
I’m back and (my hair is) gorgeous. The rest of me is going to hell at an everquickening pace…
I have homework -what? Yuck. Back at it already. Ugh.
I have no ideas for dinner and must decide something soon. Beef stew is out-having no beef. I do have chicken, but for once I am sick of chicken. I did homemade mac and cheese Monday, so that’s out (that’s usually my default meal). I am actually not hungry, but I need leftovers for work tomorrow. (the cafeteria food is so bad, I refuse to eat it. We are a closed campus, so there is no going out to eat and most places don’t deliver for lunch. Poop).
Any ideas, O Great Ones?
Ok, I read and catch up, but then when I go to post, I sit here and stare at the keyboard wondering what to say.
:smack:
My brain might be defective, that’s what I think.
Guess what I started doing yesterday?

Running.
I haven’t done any running/jogging for years. Knee issues and such. After the surgery 4 years ago, Doc Z said I could wean myself back into it, provided I wasn’t planning any marathons. I stayed off of the running tracks though and did all my aerobic-type working out on elliptical machines, or fast walking on treadmills, or in the summer, long rides on the bike. But I know running is a great aerobic exercise and I want to do something different to kick-start the program a bit.
Coincidentally, yesterday I ran into the Fabulous Laura at the health club. She’s the physical therapist/trainer I had last spring to help me work out back problems. I talked to her a little about it, and she suggested starting on the track doing intervals - walk a lap, jog a lap and see how things felt, then build from there.
So I did (partly because she offered to go with me
) and I ended up doing 4 cycles of that. It’s a 1/5 mile track, so I guess that’s decent for a start. I got really winded, which tells me that the silly elliptical machine isn’t doing as much for me there as I thought it might be. And today, my knee feels mucho-excellente, so I think I’m back there to try again today.
Next thing you know, I’m going to be all slim and buff and junk like that, then I’m gonna have to run to get away from the likes of Fabulous Laura.
In my dreams.
No, really, in my dreams, I let her catch me.
**FCD ** has just left work, and he’s stuck in the late traffic. He called and said he didn’t want dinner, so I’ll be dining alone - more rotissed beef for me!
I got a package in the mail today - an unexpected love offering from a certain MMPers who should check email about now. MWAH!!!
What do you have on hand? Tuna, pasta, cream soup and cheese and you can make tuna casserole.
That would entail me looking and actually doing something about the problem.
Honestly.

The one thing I DO know what I’m doing about today is dinner. A co-worker’s church is having a fund raising night at Culver’s tonight, so on my way from the gym, I’m stopping to get the wife a burger, and myself (remembering previous post about getting all buff and crap)…probably a nice tuna on wheat or something. ![]()
Heh. Been there, done that! (Responding to Rigs, o’course!)
Well, litter has been purchased so the catboxes can be changed tomorrow. I just got a call from Mr. SCL (who is at work) asking me what I wanted for our 18th anniversary, which is tomorrow. I can’t think of anything, so I told him I wanted money to put with the $300 I’ll be getting from the drug study to use for the jersey auction at the end of the season. He agreed, so it looks like one of Connor’s jerseys will be coming home with me at the end of the season. Yippee! Then that is it. No more jerseys.
Saturday night is the NASCAR jersey auction, and a buddy of mine is planning on trying to get Connor’s jersey. These will be signed by Richard Petty as well as the player. I’m not a NASCAR fan so I don’t want one of these jerseys, but I said I would go with her to the auction for moral support. We are having a chili and hotdog tailgate party Saturday before the game. Tailgate setup starts at 3:30. Game is usually over around 10-10:30, with at least an hour and a half for the auction. 3:30 to 11:30 or so for hockey.
My current favorite side dish is onions-n-mushrooms sauteed in butter. YUMMMMMMMMMMM!! And since **FCD ** isn’t home yet, I got them all to myself!
Plus the rotissed roast. Rare. yum
Dishwasher is running, critters are crashed, and I’m just waiting for my sweetie to get home.
rigs you need to go fix supper and then do your homework, young lady! We are not going to have a repeat of last semester, now are we? The sooner you get started, the sooner you finish. Don’t look at me like that!
such goings on. BusGuy is trying to turn himself into a fish (I know you edited it, but it was funnier the other way); QD still lurks but won’t post because she knows we will all pounce on her; Tigs’ cat has commandeered her bedroom (oh, wait. that’s normal)
I must have missed something somewhere. Who the heck is Spoons?
I came in to tell you, the freakout has officially begun. It’s early yet, so it hasn’t morphed into terror, but it will. on Feb 6th, I go for my first does of Rituxan. (I may have spoken of this before) It’s an immunosurpressor admisinstered intravenously, under intense supervision (in a hospital, because two of the nastier, albeit extremely rare, side effects are tuberculosis and death). The first dose is actually a two-parter, the second half is on Feb 20, then I won’t need it again until August. Which is plenty of time for me to :ACK: get my knees replaced and recover from that.
::runs screaming all around the room waving arms around frantically::
I know, intellectually, that everything will be fine, but since when does that prevent a freakout?
Lots and lots of prayers, hugs, virtual chocolate, and good thoughts headed out, rosie.
Mr. lissar bought us Swiss Chalet chicken for dinner so he didn’t have to cook. I’m all full, but I should make a casserole-strata with some ham and bread I dug out of the freezer. And something like a crisp or cherry chocolate brownies with some cherries.
Dinner was a two parter–I “made” Freschetta pizza for the kids, and I made this sour cream/hash brown/cheese/ham casserole (I’m sure you’ve all had it at one point or another–it’s big at pot lucks).
I made it solely so I would have something to take to work tomorrow-the cafeteria food is horrid. And I made some pan cookies as well–what can I say? I bake when I’m stressed.
Rosie --what is this new med regime for? Will it interfere with your knee surgery (I don’t think so, because of your post, but still…)
Tis snowing here–HazelNut --I’m excited! (it’s flurries, but what the hell)
Immunosurpressors are the “antihisitime” for my antibodies. I am, essentially, allerigic to my self. My antibodies started attacking a virus about 10 years ago, but did not shut off when the job was done, and have been attacking my healthy cells, that’s the very simplistic explanation. I have a lupus like condition, in combination with both RA and OA. The Rituxan will curb the inflammation, quiet the pain, and as a result, my fatigue will decrease. My doc already has several patients on this med, and they are “doing great” (his words, not theirs, I don’t know who they are, so I haven’t spoken to them)
No, it will not interfere with the knee surgery. That’s the beauty of it only being needed once every six months (except for the initial dose). And if it does what it proports to do, I will have more energy to get some serious PT in before the surgery, and be able to better deal with rehab afterwards.
Sounds great! Good luck with that.
Off to study, now that I have caught #2 son up his two days of homework (he was out two days d/t fever).
Rosie, that’s great! Sending good thoughts your way. Don’t forget to breathe!
Well, I broke down and bought Buckley’s. I’d forgotten how nasty it tastes. I’d also forgotten how well it works. The cough is still pretty powerful, so it likely won’t provide relief for long, but at least what it does provide knocks the crap out of whatever it was Robitussen was trying to do.
It’s snowing outside, too, and it’s gonna be a bitterly cold one tomorrow. Yay! Oddly enough the cold air actually makes my cough feel better. That seems kind of counterintuitive to how it’s supposed to work, but there it is.
Tonight we’re just going to order in. Neither of us feel up to cooking. Chicken sub for me, which I will douse in Tabasco. Mmmm.
rosie - That’s kinda messed up. You’ve got a great immune system – too great, in fact; it just doesn’t stop working even when it’s supposed to. I hope the new regimen works well.
rosie, I liked the visuals, they made the whole post. And good luck on the new meds - sounds like it’s a positive, so yay on you.
Ok, everyone. Tell me what I did wrong this time. I had arranged to stop and bring the Wife a burger from Culver’s after I left the gym. I grabbed her burger, my tuna on sourdough and came home. She’s on the phone, intently listening to someone. I decided to sit and eat, pointing at her burger and making a ‘hey, sit down’ gesture.
Then I ask if she brought the mail in, she says yes, I eat. She’s still on the phone. I finish eating, run upstairs, unpack the gym bag, re-load it for tomorrow, sort some laundry, bring it downstairs, move wet clothes to the dryer, start new laundry.
Still on the phone. Now I’ve determined it’s not her sister (long distance) by things she’s talking about, but probably someone in our circle of the Regular Suspects.
Finally (easily 25 minutes after I came in with her burger), she gets off the phone, and the first words out of her mouth are “Why are you asking me about the mail, can’t you see I’m on the phone?”
I said, ok sorry. But, I just thought you might have wanted to say something about how your dinner just came in the door, and you may want to eat with your husband?
She takes the now quite cold burger, starts to eat it, and says “Well, I guess I screwed that up then didn’t I?”
Now I’m getting the Major Silent Treatment.
Which frankly is ok, I think she’s waiting for me to make this a fight, but I’m not biting.
I’m just gonna whip some work off here, read my book and hit the sack later.
Sheesh. Women.
