My greatest influence - an early MMP

Silly male. She expected you to wait to eat until she was off the phone, then offer to heat up her burger.
But, yeah, the cold burger is her own fault. Unless it were and life and deth discussion, she easily could have told the other coversant that dinner had arrived and could they continue the call later. So as long as you don’t make it worse by reminding her that she could have done this, you should be okay by morning.
(but why would you ask her anything while she was on the phone? some people cannot hold two conversations simulatneously)

Quazi Daughter?

She’s supposed to post. She said she would. I bullied her.

Yes yes, I am here. Thank you for the welcome. Just for the doubters, I am a real person (not a figment of Lissla Lissar’s imagination - although she has a very active one.)

Pthibbit. And thank you.

I think we scared her, LiLi. Our uncontrollable verbiage and lack of coherence would scare most people, otherwise the MMP would have become a DMP by now. Can you imagine all these simulconversations happening out loud in a single room? I can’t, and I’m used to the Spanish-Italian mode of conversation where everybody speaks at the same time and nobody takes offense so long as they can say their bit.

To have bad circulation, aren’t you required to have circulation first? I understand that the differences between a bumper to bumper highway and my veins are as follows:

  • a highway is wider’n a regular road. My veins are smaller than usual.
  • bumper to bumper traffic moves and stops and moves and stops. My blood sort’a moves all the time, it simply does it without ever leaving first gear.
  • cars don’t repair broken highways. My blood, judging by how easily I bruise and foreparental history, can heal anything up to and including broken bones, so long as they’re mine (Gramps, one of the foreparents who bruises if you look at him too hard, broke his neck at 87 and it was healed in 2 weeks: usual time would have been more like 3 months).

It’s probably not as bad as rig’s, my hands never get to be blue (which the descriptions of Reynaud’s I’ve read say they would) but feet of ice, that’s me. When I say “oh man, my hands are cold” and some male laughs and says “c’mon, can’t be that bad, you girls are always cold!” I touch their nape. A “YAAAAAAYRGH!” later, they don’t say that stupidity again “it’s like… ice! What have you done with your hands!”.

And why couldn’t she say, “I’m on the phone with so and so” to let MBG know that it was going to be a longish call.
I figure-I’m bringing food home–you better be ready to eat it when I get there.

That book looks good (ah, to read for pleasure again…someday, eh?)

Blue does not = Raynaud’s. Raynaud’s makes your digits (I love that word) appear white and waxen. The fingernail beds are usually blue, though. I did a biofeedback course in college (at the clinic, not for credit, more’s the pity) and they found that I could get the temperature of my fingers down to 63 degress, Fahrenheit. Not much of a party trick, really…
It can hurt like the dickens to rewarm them. When rewarming, the white areas become patchy–you can watch the circulation be restored. Freaky.

I usually have very cold feet–in fact, all winter, every winter, I pretty much resign myself to walking on blocks of ice. The hands are much improved–I used to be able to get a spasm in air conditioning, but not so much now.

Quasi-female offspring --welcome! We are not so odd here. Well, there are those who think that TMI is a good thing, and those who have a personal veg man; those who think that they are all MMPers longlost father, and those who think their pets are human, but overall, we are fine–except for those who fling wet clay around and those who like to sing scores from musicals and the others who think puns are high humor, oh, and those who belly dance and bake (at the same time, no less!)…then there are those who can’t make up their minds to marry really decent fellows, but the less said there the better…oh, and me? I whine alot. So, how are you?

Good luck with the drug regimen, rosie! Hope it really helps with the energy and all.

Hi QD! We’ve been waiting for you! Yes, we’re familiar with LiLi’s imagination. I’ve always been sure she wasn’t inventing you and all those husbands, though. Glad you got brave and stopped by. Will you organize my refrigerator, please? It really needs it. Oh, and stop by and just say something. You can respond to a previous post or just chime in with whatever you’re thinking about. Before you know it, we’ll all be having a conversation. Hardest part is probably figuring out the nicknames because sometimes they’re well, not all that obvious. And some people have several.

I think it’s just a human communication thing, MBG. Sometimes you just don’t connect. Good on you for not taking the bait. And also, what rigs said.

So, Jahdra, how’s that resume coming along? Huh? Huh? Huh?

You tell the bestest job stories swampy. (Well, except for the other people who tell job stories…)

Mandy is your QA inspector??? I’m fairly certain I would be more effective and I know nothing about the stuff Technical Thingies, Inc. does. Well, except for the fact that there is an occasional need for cable.

So I had this dream this morning and it’s been bugging me all day. I was somewhere (Carribean or Mexico or maybe even Germany) visiting with Local Best Friend and her husband and baby (who won’t be born till August or so). Her mom (or maybe it was my mom - I think they changed identity during the dream) was there and was talking to us and they were staying in the back bedroom of the house and I was staying in an adjoining bedroom.

The part that’s bugging me? I was really familiar with the house and had the strong feeling that I’d been there many times before. I’m trying to decide if it’s truly a house I’d been to or if it was one of those deja vu dream effects. The feeling was REALLY strong when I woke up. I think it might just be because I’m reading Harry Potter 5 where he has a lot of dreams about the interior of the Ministry of Magic, but it’s a very strange feeling; unsettling, really.

Back from book group, where everyone actually liked the book (very unusual; usually several people refused to finish and someone read it all the way through but hated it and someone else loved it and another one thought it was…meh).

So…it’s past my bedtime again. Is it Friday yet?

GT

Quaz! You made it! Yay! Like gt said, this is the unhijackable thread. Just write whatever. [sub]oh and marry the poor boy, for LiLi’s sake[/sub]

She’s off to bed with a bad cold. I will force her to write more later. She’s very friendly, and will probably have lots of TMI, since she’s an OT.
I’ve just been re-reading Pride and Prejudice, and I really, really want to bat many of the characters over the head with an axe. The fun of the book is in the satire, but it would still be nice to roast Mr. Collins and Lady Catherine over a slow fire.

Welcome, QD! We have lots of fun here.

I found my Social Security card! I had to dig into the doll closet for it, and it was right were it was supposed to be. Good thing, because if I’d lost this one, the SSA would be wondering what the heck I was doing with them. I also found certificates of authenticity for a couple of paintings I bought four years ago. I love them and admire them daily, and I’m so glad I bought them when I did. See Sonya Paz here. Her work is so bright, cheerful, and surreal. I like that.

Hello, all. May I say that I am sick to death of rush jobs? At least today’s is just boring congressmen droning on at length about subjects they know nothing about; yesterday’s was so annoying I spent the day at odd moments screaming at my computer, “I HATE THESE PEOPLE! I REALLY, REALLY HATE THESE PEOPLE!” I can’t work up a good hate for Congress, fortunately. Plus it pays really, really well.

We now have our new FIOS TV installed throughout the house. 250 digital channels of Nothing To Watch, I love it! The picture is gorgeous on every single channel. And because the installer had to be digging around in my office, I even got the vacuuming done before he arrived so he wouldn’t choke from the dog hair that lives on my office carpet. (The carpet is just the color of Isaac’s shed hair, so even when it looks clean it usually isn’t.)

Good luck with the meds, rosie. And I do hope it helps you with the PT before your knee surgery. I’m glad I’m able to just do mine myself by going to the gym (and being very, very careful). It’s really so important to help with post-replacement rehab, isn’t it? So get your new meds and get to work on that PT so we can form the Bionic Knee Club (along with previous recipients such as BooFae)!

Tomorrow is an official goofing off day. Assuming I wake up before noon. Of course, I have to go to sleep before I can wake up, and I can’t go to sleep till I finish transcribing the [del]pointless drivel[/del] important speechifyings of the congresspeople, so it’s back to the salt mines for me!

Miss me? I had a long day at work, then it was off to a Booster club party, I won a toy Zamboni. Tomorrow is laundry day, and maybe the park.

QD, welcome! get plenty of rest for that cold.[sub][sub][sub][sub] and marry that guy![/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub]
rosie, good luck with the drugs and knees.

Congrats, {{{hugs}}}, and get back to work, yous to everyone else!

There are people here with The Sick…stop it! Keep it! Don’t send it over here, I just don’t have time for it! Oh, and get better, right now!

rosie - good luck with the meds, it’ll be good to have more members in the Bionic Knee Club. Getting mine replaced was some of the best surgery I’ve ever had, although I had managed to do huge amounts of damage to both knees beforehand - the doctor had to go for a replacement because there wasn’t enough of one kneecap left to piece together. Ick!

Shadow had a good trip to see a very cute vet last night - he’s been weighed and is about 4kg which is about average for a cat of his age. The vet reckons he’s probably 2yrs old, and he’s in pretty good health. He’s had the first of his vaccinations and will be back for the next lot in three weeks’ time. In between, he’ll be back at the surgery next week for a little operation.

I couldn’t tell if he’d been neutered or not because there wasn’t much evidence of anything except a little furry bump. Turns out he’s only got one testicle, which is going to be removed next week and while he’s under anaesthetic, they’ll see if they can find and remove the other one.

I had to explain all this to 'im indoors, who pulled a very strange face and said it was making his eyes water. He’s going to miss out on the whole drama because he’ll be starting his fancy new contract in sunny Wigan on Monday so he’ll be staying up there for the week.

What else? Oh, nothing much. It’s bright and sunny here but quite cold. No snow yet but they keep hinting at it.

It’s Burns Night tonight, we’ll be out scoffing haggis. Och, aye!

Paging BibCat and ** Bobbio**! FireMMPr’s needed in GQ

Can I make siren noises, can I can I?

(Oh, no chillblains, by the way. Weeeeee!)

And och, aye to BooElf --I’ll be going to a Worship Haggis, I mean a Burns night on Friday (we Americans do things when convenient for us). I cannae wait.
Off to work at the hellhole today. But I have cute hair now, so I automatically win.

rosie good luck with the meds. It’s ok to freak out when you hear such stuff as can cause death. 'Cept we know it won’t, right? Then you can join the bionic knee club and make those cool noises when you walk.

Ain’t nuttin’ like a school-based work/study program for a wealth of good stories, let me tell ya.

Welcome QD! I’m the normal one who dispenses sage wisdom, disciplines those who are slackin’ off and provides f-aaaaaa-bu-lous home decorating and fashion tips. Everybody always listens and does everything I say. [sub]So, you gonna marry DH or what?[/sub]

Nava glad you don’t have chillblains.

rigs whompin’ up a casserole is always a good thing. I have many, many church lady cookbooks chock full of a lot of seriously good (and some really frightening) casseroles. As long as one has stuff like cream of soups, sour cream, cheese, onions, potatoes, ground beef/chicken/ham on hand it seems the casserole ideas are endless. Or scary.

Sean, Mandy the Martian is QA? Just…  and…

So, we got a [del]sucker[/del] volunteer for Monday yet?

BooFae is haggis anywhere near as disgusting as it sounds and looks? I’ve never seen it up close, only on tv and it looked scary.

-swampbear (Overuser of  )

Yup! Here’s a haggis recipe but you do need to be of a sturdy constitution to read it! To be honest, I’ve never eaten proper haggis as I have the very good sense to be a vegetarian. The veggie version has barley, quorn mince, beans and spices instead of meat and actually tastes quite nice although I find it’s quite dry.

Of course, if you’re going to do it properly, there has to be a lot of Scotch flowing so you probably wouldn’t notice the nastiness of the wee beastie itself. 'im indoors assures me it’s very palatable, but he’s a bloke so what does he know?

BTW, has QD said yes to DH yet? We need to know in case LiLi needs help auditioning for a replacement husband…

Wow, I guess we is rich. I didn’t even have to pay for classes. Just joined the volunteer organization and classes be free. The ‘academy’ is nothing special - just a big ole’ building down by the old steel plant. Some of the equipment doesn’t work right, either. It was often a crapshoot as to which air bottles would work during burns. You’d have to get there early, grab one, make sure it was functioning and sit on it till class started. There weren’t enough small face pieces to go around, and the instructor had to order more for us dainty fire chick types. We had to wear larges the first couple of weeks.

We do house burnings around here, too. If it’s in our own district, we’re expected to invite all the volunteers from the neighboring districts to join us. My company went on two last fall, and they’re usually few and far between, so who knows when the next one will be.
