My greatest influence - an early MMP

I just saw that - I don’t have time to answer now, but I’ll be back this afternoon to do it. Thanks for the heads up.
As for the sirens noises - go for it!

I do get my $20 registration fee back from the department, BookKitty. We’re not THAT poor.

Speaking of cats, I realized that I missed Piss and Vinegar this morning. Not in the sorry they’re gone sense, but more like it was odd for them to not raise hell while I did my morning shower and shave routine. I don’t know if I can get over not having 20 needles in my calf because one decided to climb my bare leg.

Aww! I hope Scruffy’s surgery will go okay; how great of you and FCD to have adopted a stray, especially one who needs medical care. Very good karma for you both. Have to chuckle about Brandy, though (but she is a beautiful cat!), because I really can imagine her being pissed about the dog using her cat door -and- eating her food.

   I read that recipe for Haggis…   I am now officially afraid of Scotland. I need brain bleach! AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!

'im indoors is from Scotland. Pass the bleach when you’re done!

Oh yes. They took her out of Sales a few months back, and made her into the QA assistant. But then our senior QA guy got moved over to supervise production (in-house repairs, calibrations and other work), so she’s now the big QA Cheese. I mostly ignore her, and she doesn;t have to deal with me thinking that she’s an idiot. It works out well that way.

Mornin’ everyone. I helped proctor the kiddies’ first exam last night. I spent most of the time doing my own work, punctuated by the odd question from one of the students. Now comes the fun part: grading the sucker. We started grading the multiple choice when most of them were handed in. There are three long answer questions, and each of us 3 TAs gets to grade that one for all 90 exams. Fun times, really. If anyone wants a monkey, just ask - I’ve got a whole barrel of 'em.

And now, off to eat food and learn stuff.

EXACTLY what I said! (to myself). Just say who it is, that you won’t be long, tell Sandie your dinner just came, and I’d have waited.

It is a good book. He wrote that other book about that other thing that I liked so much. This one I figured this would be good, and it is so far.

My [del]worthless[/del] capable right hand, and secretary returned from her week and a half vacation today, so I must now go and try to fill her in on what happened in her absence.

Oh, and welcome Quaint Daughter!!!

Urk. I think The Sick has caught up with me. Just when I went to bed, my throat started hurting really badly. My voice is funny today. I’m going to medicate with tea and honey and chicken soup until work.

It’s currently -15, but the windchill facotr is -24, I’m going to stay indoors until work.

According to many people, haggis is just sausage made with oatmeal. You do know that sausage is frequently encased in pig intestines, right?

Yes, but I do peel salchichón and chorizo and leave the callos, kidneys, lungs, livers, bollocks and bladders for the likes of Mom and Gramps, who shouldn’t eat 'em anyway.

LiLi, what’s an OT?

I’ve actually had both regular and vegetarian haggis, and to be completely honest they taste very similar. The meat that goes into it certainly sound disgusting, but when I’ve had it the meat is merely there for the purpose of being something to put the spices in, same thing for all of the stuff in the vegetarian version.

I went shopping with my mother last night and she picked up a crock pot for me with the money she got from some Christmas present returns, of course as my parents are at a loss of what to get me for my birthday next week she insisted on taking it home, wrapping it up, and giving it to me as a birthday present so I won’t be able to try it out until next weekend. But when I do the first thing I will use it for will be to make Sean’s hot fudge sunday cake for Meli.

Mmmmmm, hot fudge sunday cake…

Lordy, it’s colder’n a witch’s tit out there. Definitely the coldest day of the year so far. On a good note tnough my cough is finally on the mend. My entire upper body still aches, but I’ve taken a battery of pills this morning and took my Buckley’s along just in case. But at least I don’t spend every moment feeling like the next cough is going to make my head assplode. I’m going to take another shot of the vile stuff though, just to be on the safe side. If it thinks I’ve stopped taking the stuff if might sneak back. I have to keep the threat alive 'til it leaves for good.

QD - You realize, of course, that now everyone is going to badger you to “marry the poor boy” along with LiLi – at least until such time as you do, at which point there will be much merriment. This is very brave of you. But welcome anyway! If nothing else, as least we’re a fun, if sometimes slightly irregular bunch.

LiLi - The Sick has been circulating for a couple of months. now. I guess it’s now worked its way from the west end into Tronna. Damn dirty viruses.

Haggis. Ugh. Urf. :pukeysmiley:

Gah! Ali! Now you’ve got me all excited and anxious to eat this (delicious-sounding!) cake.

Lissla, I completely agree about your frustations with P&P characters. Mr. Collins invokes shudders from the toughest of (wo)men. He makes me feel like I’m being dunked into a bit of sludgey black goo.

And many hopes that the both of you don’t have to battle with The Sick much longer, too! sends warm fuzzy blankets to both

Mmm. This should be a good day, methinks. I just got done with my only class of the day, and now I’m on to catching up on my bank statement. After that will hopefully involve being taught how to cook spaghetti, going to both Drawing and Writers’ Clubs, and of course, seeing Ali.

Hey everybody! I swear I’m not dead. Just busy. Or maybe not that busy. This week, I went to the bookstore and spent a good chunk of my vacation pay, and I’ve spent much time since on the couch.

Job hunting is going … meh. I swear I’m looking. I’m not really finding. And what I find doesn’t seem to be hunting me back. I persevere, however. I attended my mandatory “here’s how you get a job” seminar at the Unemployment office, and while I’d like to claim my benefits today like I’m supposed to, I apparently worked half an hour on Monday, January 8th before I was fired, so the automated system keeps telling me to enter my hours and then telling me that something’s not good enough. I’m going to try it again, but I doubt I’ll be successful. I’m going to have to call them.

This morning, I’m sitting in the waiting room of the Honda dealership, waiting for my baby to be poked and prodded and diagnosed and rotated and refilled and stuff. I’m sure it will take longer than I think it will, but they have an internet “lounge” now. Of course, I did not know this, and therefore brought my own computer to piggyback on the wireless connection. Woo.

Daytime TV baffles me. Right now, for some reason, I cannot fathom, Rachael Ray and LL Cool J are on the television at the same time. Talking to each other and everything. I don’t know why. But I dig LL, so it’s okay. I haven’t really even been turning on the TV during the day–not even to watch bad movies Roomie makes fun of me for. I read a bunch, I clean, I organize. I should probably do something like exercise. Bah.

Aaaand, that’s it. Sorry I’ve been so out of touch this week, but rest assured I haven’t read anything but the OP (nice job, Rosie, and a very touching story) and still offer all the proper reactions to anything that’s happened this week.

What would one do with leftover haggis? Haggis soup? Haggis stew? Haggis salad? Haggis tetrazini? Haggis hash? Haggis sammiches? Is everybody grossed out now?

I’m up and having coffee. Everyone has been walked and fed, and the laundry is gathered.

LiLi, sure haggis is “sausage”, but like Bismarck said: “The two things people should never see being made are laws and sausages”

Nava, I like throwing some chorizo in my chili.
BooFae and Ali, vegetarian haggis? :dubious:

This MMP has become a MHP(Massive Haggis Post).

Recycle it. Haggis Haggis.

Good morning everyone.

The Sick is starting to make the rounds at my house. Mr. Taters has a very bad cold and my daughter wasn’t feeling well at all yesterday. The daughter seems slightly better today and is going to school. Hubby headed off to work. Poor thing, he can’t even take daytime cold drugs while driving, so has to suffer miserably with a stuffed up head and constantly running nose.

Hugs to all who need them.

Good luck with the meds, Rosie.

Hello QD! I’m glad you stopped by.

Another day of craziness is sure to ensue here at work. I must get started on one of my bajillion taskers now.

Take care.

QD’s an Occupational Therapist. According to her (and maybe she can clarify later) her job is to help people figure out ways of doing whatever it is that they want to be able to do, which is usually like shower, go to the bathroom, manage stairs, rearrange furniture so they can make their way through the house.

For instance, she was working with a person who was really, severely OCD, and couldn’t put one foot down, ever, for OCD reasons. She was trying to figure out a way for him to get safely in and out of the shower. Hopping. Plus working with doctors who were trying to get him stabilized so he could put a foot down. Except I think he had a brain injury, too.

Her job is to help people manage. She spends a lot of time lifting people (if you remember pictures, she’s tiny) and helping them with basic functions, so they can regain some measure of independence.

It’s a loose sort of job title with a lot of different applications.
Time for more tea and lounging. And making chicken soup.
I forgot! I’ve actually been sick quite recently, so I’m really pissed off about being sick again. I had a bad cold about three weeks ago. This isn’t fair!

LiLi - we could send you leftover haggis to recycle as haggis-not-chicken soup?

CanineOpenerOfFrontDoors - vegetarian haggis is kind of like a lentil-filled nut loaf! It’s a bit of a bizarre concept but since it’s so heavily laden with spices, you don’t really notice the consistency of it all and just enjoy the taste.

Last time I bought a haggis for 'im indoors, we had leftovers in the fridge for a couple of days. The cats were very interested and I reckon I could safely leave some out now and Shadow would devour it. He isn’t big on cat food, he prefers the dry stuff, and he’s currently working his way through everything we cook.

Last night he had pilchards in tomato sauce, a little bit of peppercorn cheddar, some Thai curry, a nibble of curried parsnip, and then this morning I had to share my scrambled egg with him.
