I manage and consult on various Business Intelligence (yes, I’ve heard it all before) projects. My last name is neither Kimball nor Inmon.
Information security analyst for a mega-bank.
While several IBM System z10’s and a gaggle of *nix servers are my playground, my main function seems to be to say “NO” a lot. As in, “I don’t really care if it’s easier for you - you can’t have root access…”
Licensed Professional Engineer (yes, a real one)
The sig says it all, really. The title is “Food-service clerk” in a high-end supermarket: cutting, wrapping and advising customers on cheese, making salads, serving hot food, sometimes cleaning the dining room, and whatever else.
Photographer.
Did I miss a post? I can’t be the only one.

Actually, though, I’d love to be a cheese monger in a high-end supermarket.
Telecom Provisioning, transport and data circuits. Specifically, infrastructure grooms. I don’t do new turn-ups, but instead do network changes and redesigns at night.

Senior HR Advisor. Yes I know Scammer had HR Manager, but there is a difference.
I’m always amazed by how many different job descriptions can get that particular job title.
ERP Consultant, specifically Functional Analyst. I get paid to learn what do my clients do, how do they do it, then prep one of the biggest ERP software packages out there for them to use, write the courses and manuals and train the people who need to use the new system.
If there are any forms which need tweaking or any patches that need writing (I avoid these like the plague), I explain what’s needed in terms that the end users can understand, then a Technical Analyst translates that into terms the programmers can understand.
In a shorter version, “I get paid to tell people how to do their jobs.”
If you are interested, here are some I’ve done in the past from Baghdad and I think Kabul over the years:
There is also a thread somewhere in which I describe running into Geraldo Rivera at the Kabul airport in 2003.
Researcher at an ESL institute (developing content for adult learners).
Risk analysis and internal compliance for a financial regulator
Marketing analysis and strategy.
This means I run statistical/mathematical models to predict what consumers are most likely to buy a product and then advise how best to get them to respond to an offer.
Cool - What instrument(s), type(s) of music, setting(s)?
And **chacoguy **- **pulykamell **is a photog but not on the thread yet…
