Archaeology (or “cultural resources”) is part of the environmental compliance process. Nobody does it because they want to, they do it because the law requires it. We do contract work for utility companies, state and federal agencies, the military, etc. Most working archaeologists in the U.S. do consulting work as opposed to academia.

As for me I am a standardized writing test grader. I work at home grading tests testing students as young as third grade and as advanced as two years of college. I’m also a professional writer and occasional writing tutor but that’s been mentioned already.
