My move to the retirement facility (If joining the thread late, at least skim the first few posts)

Now that I think of it, this one is closer to 1000sf. It’s one of the largest 2BR units. If this damned knee ever starts cooperating, I plan to clear out some of the clutter in the “computer room”. It’s actually BR #2, but the desktop is in there and it’s my wife’s turf. But it looks like a tornado hit it.

They’ve trained us so well, isn’t domestication a thing of wonder! Wait, we were supposed to be domesticating them? It is too laugh!

Oh god, this, yes. I have boxes in the basement that hadn’t been unpacked since we moved to this house in 2002.

This is a pain in the neck, especially when right now would be a great time to avail yourself of the not having to cook, but more important to US is how you’re feeling. Is this one of the things where you’re still testing positive, but still feel (all else being equal) more or less normal? Or are your symptoms spiking again? The first is part of the FSM-be-damned New Normal, but the latter is something we would worry about.

Actually, food is included at The Home, so I’m having a tuna salad sandwich.

My symptoms were a scratchy throat and a dry cough. Those symptoms have not returned. I’m exhausted, of course. I didn’t eat at all yesterday – just couldn’t fit it in. While eating this sandwich, I feel like the roof of my mouth is tender. I could be a bit dehydrated although I’m drinking water whenever I think of it. I can still taste and smell okay.

ETA. I’m getting great reception on my T-Mobile Gateway. I’m on thesecond floor and I put it on a window sill. Four bars-- I only ever got three max at the house. Sometimes less.

I knew that part, I didn’t know if you were comfortable taking advantage of it while you were testing Positive, or if they did a drop off option. All the better then, if you can have someone else take care of the food option while your unpack and recover the house-panthers.

In the past, I would see different signal strengths on different sides of the street. 5G in the midrange frequencies that T-Mobile chose have better penetration that the frequencies other carriers went with (higher speeds though when the circumstances were good) but still were even more subject to shadows and dead spots.

Which reminds me! Does the Cisco WiFi system in the room have ethernet ports on the bottom? I’m curious, because a wired connection is generally less error prone for things like smart tvs and the like.

Please do eat – even if you don’t feel much like it. Please do drink, ditto. Please rest as much as you can. Anything you need to unpack yourself can wait. Well, as long as it’s not cat pans. Or cat food. Or the new but already-beloved cat cubbies. Or clean underwear and socks and your toothbrush. Anything else, if it’s still in boxes tomorrow, or next week, or even next year – don’t worry about it.

I sympathize with that. Must. Have. Cats.!

I got the kitties home!

True to form, EC has explored everywhere and is here on the sofa with me.

True to form, Tikva has discovered the Kitty Closet Zone and is sequestered there on top of a suitcase. If we were at the old house, she’d be under the house. For a week. I hope she can find me in bed later.

More tomorrow…I’m beat. Y’all’s step-by-step support has meant the world to me.

Onward…

Wonderful news. May it all be uphill from here.

Downhill? Uphill? Ah well, you know what I mean.

I wondered a little while ago what was happening on your end and when you’d next post.

Then I thought, “I bet she’s out getting the cats.”

And the cats are home! even if they don’t know that it’s home now. But if Tikva’s on top of a suitcase instead of under something a cat shouldn’t be able to fit under – even though the suitcase is in a closet, that’s better than I expected right now. And EC out and exploring already!

Sleep well. And as you fall asleep, may you feel the sensation of two cats landing on the bed next to you. (Probably, I gather, carefully on opposite sides of you.)

ThelmaLou, I must admire and applaud your documentation of a major life event. You were surprised but you were ready, you resolved your situation almost immediately. I am renting a house and my landlord relationship has become very complicated for reasons not for the internet. Same thing could happen to me and I brilliantly still have possessions of multiple family members. I dread this possibelety.

Bravo ThelmaLou, welcome home EC & Tikva!

Your move certainly went better than one I saw today.

Nearby here is a rather fancy apartment complex. Like rents are $3500-$7K/mo worth of fancy.

As I drove by today I saw a large multi-room pile of furniture that had simply been dumped upside down on the lawn outside the main entrance. Apparently somebody was evicted and had left their stuff inside the unit. So management removed it to the curb as is their right. With no concern for how much they broke. It was a very impressive pile of wreckage, and may have been more than one apartment’s worth.

Over the next couple of days I expect the scavengers to take what’s salvageable then a dumpster company will haul off the rest. I suppose the furniture’s owner(s) could stop by and try to get some of it, but somehow I doubt they will.

Thelma’s move, and @motu’s upcoming move, did/will go much better than that.

This says it better than the paragraph I had typed instead, so I’ll just quote it for the +1.

And my best wishes for an unadventurous and not-too-strenuous couple of days of everyone settling in and divesting of stuff that you have realized you don’t need - one of the rare benefits of a move!

@thorny_locust Tikki is now next to me on the sofa, but burrowed under a pile of pillows. I was sure I wouldn’t see her this soon. I feel pretty confident she will sleep next to me. EC may or may not. She has never been a bed kitty. Except during The Big Freeze when we had no power. Then she piled on.

I hope it doesn’t happen to you. But if it does, this is a great cheering section.

Oh dear. :scream: Thereby hangs a tale…

Mine certainly went better than that.

Definitely true!

I am going to seriously rest tomorrow. I don’t have to go anywhere. And somebody has already planned my lunch. I ate my tuna sandwich outside today and there were several lawn guys running around tending to things. I don’t have to deal with yard work anymore. I was paying to have my lawn mowed twice a month even though it was mostly dead. I also don’t have to put the trash cans out anymore. Or pay a utility bill. Pretty cool.

Y’all are the best!

Maybe those others, I’m more like Jay/Will Smith on the left. A congenial and friendly screw-ball!

Glad to hear everyone is enjoying couch time.

Just call us The Three Potatoes. :potato: :potato: :potato:

Cats in the house makes everything better :smiley_cat:

They make it a cozy, entertaining home.

EC this morning. Almost like being outside. Nah, it’s not even close.

Living room yesterday evening. A bit crowded.

I watched an episode of Poirot last night where the people in the country house come down to the breakfast buffet. Imagine my surprise when I walked into the dining room and saw the same thing! They have the full breakfast on Fridays. The only thing missing was the little Belgian detective and the body in the library!

Thelma, thank you for keeping us all updated. I’m so glad to see that you’re getting settled into the new place, and that the cats are settling in, too.

Now, kick COVID to the curb, and you should be all set.
