My Name Is Earl - 11/29/2007

That scumbag warden! Earl was nearly out! All those good behavior certificates, then Earl had to remind him how much Earl was keeping his ass covered. Well, according to next week’s preview, Earl’s setting fire to the cell is just the tip of the iceberg of how much jail has been getting to him.

One of the better prison episodes, I’d say.

“I remember all of my proms… the fourth was probably the best. [wistfully] Six of us in the back of that limo. Y’know, the basketball team went all the way to the state finals that year!” - Joy

I liked the Aryan inmate asking for the white chocolate fountain.

Darnell using his and Mr. Turtle’s reconciliation as a model for the painter’s parents.

The guy painting his meth lab as it catches fire.

All of the inmates at the prom with their inmate ID numbers stitched on their tuxes.

And the warden blabbing to the reporter. “The governor has a sex addiction?” “How do you know these things?”

(BTW, there’s a Quotable Earl thread going right now. Check it out).

This was a pretty fun episode. I love Craig T. Nelson as the bumbling warden, but it sure looks like he has crossed the line this time, destroying Earl’s “get out of jail” certificates! And it really looked like Earl was on the proper trajectory to be out of prison by the end of the episode – now I can’t wait for next week’s “prison break”!

By the way, how many of you have enjoyed the prison episodes enough to want him to stay in the slammer for the rest of the season?

Definitely not me. I really want him to get back to Karma and The List.

Earl was Shawshanked!

I liked how Earl was disappointed in his prom date because she wouldn’t put out, not because she wasn’t gorgeous.

How? He spent his last $24 thousand on a prom…his lottery winnings are gone.

But very few of the things on Earl’s list cost him any money to fix. He can do it.

Or maybe he’ll catch another escaped convict and get a reward. Or buy another winning lottery ticket. Or get a job. I’d love to see Earl at work again.

I have not exactly been thrilled with the “Earl in prison” episodes myself (they have their moments, but I want him out of there and working his list!), but some of my friends love them, to the extent of wanting him to stay in prison for the entire season!

I have to admit, though, that I admire the writers for not taking the easy way out, and getting him out of jail after just one or two episodes. I also wonder if the show has lost some of its following because of the extended prison stay.
