My Name is Earl 4/19

There we go. That’s the Earl I know. Sheet genius again.

So…one more Crabman nugget…he used to be crazy rich???

I thought it a weak episode. Not really all that funny (though the Burt Reynolds imitation was amusing). Darnell had a few good lines about his past, but the whole situation was obvious and predictable.

The show has been in a slump since Randy’s night with Catalina (who really has had nothing to do since then).

I think the Doctor was Charles Robinson of Night Court.

Who was little Chubby, was it Norm MacDonald?

Yes and yes. And that’s what made it genius - we got to see the Norm MacDonald Burt Reynolds again.

And RealityChuck, I just don’t know who you are anymore.

Thanks, I enjoyed the episode. I enjoyed Catalina jumping, Randy not accepting phone numbers, the Aboriginal jokes, Joy being a lady of quality  ,it was a funny episode.

Jim

Randy sliding down the pole upside down in the background, Randy asking if the truckers giving each other lap dances were phoning it in…

Thanks, I couldn’t figure out who it was and I turn to the dope for the reveal! My Cox Tivo thing faked me out. I thought I missed Earl and The Office because it wasn’t highlighted, but as it turns out, both are recorded!

Norm nailed Burt Reynolds, but the moustache was obviously fake. Or was it supposed to be obvious?

Joy wanting to eat the mango after they get done comparing it to LC’s goodies was

Ivylad was over by the computer, and he kept missing Catalina in her stripper outfit.

I knew from the cable guide description that Norm MacDonald would be playing Little Chubby on this episode, so I was totally prepared to see him get out of that limo, but when he did that little laugh thing, just like on the “Celebrity Jeopardy” sketches, it cracked me right up.

Rule number 1: Getting hit in the balls stopped being funny after the 4th episode of American’s Funniest Home Videos. It’s the bad comedy writers crutch (along with fart jokes, which seem to be required in any comedy these days). And when you drag out a bad joke for a half hour, it’s not good comedy.

I will revise in that there were a couple of good episodes after Catalina and Randy (I thought that was the last before the break), but the show is completely ignoring that issue and the last two new ones just haven’t been impressive. I used to prefer Earl to The Office, and skip The Office if I had work to do, but now it’s the other way around. The Office keeps getting better, while Earl seems stuck in a rut.

I thought that the hit in the balls gag this time was kind of sweet. I like the saccharin that comes with Earl.

Best DVR moment ever: My wife couldn’t figure out what Catalina said about her cavities and I had to rewind a few times. Her in that blue bikini was HOT!

You admit to watching American’s Funniest Home Videos and you expect us to take your opinion seriously?

There should have been one “Turd Ferguson” reference.

True, while the main plot was obvious, there were still little gems around, such as Catalina walking around the mansion grounds casually littering with Little Chubby’s maid following her around picking stuff up.

Getting hit in the balls for its own sake isn’t funny, but in this case it was merely a vehicle to advance the plot. It wasn’t the ball-hitting that was funny, and I don’t think it was supposed to be. I thought it was a pretty good episide. The only reservations I had was the scene with Little Chubby shooting at the kids, which was supposed to be funny as it added nothing to the plot and was done simply for the sake of humor- firing a gun at kids just isn’t funny.

Nothing… except give ME a chubby! schWING!

When the episode showed Burt Reynolds as Chubby sr. and announced that his son had come back to town, I figured Reynolds himself would play the role. When I saw MacDonald, I cracked right up. I also liked the aborigine running gag.

Little Chubby’s WHITE maid. That had to be part of the joke.

The fake mustache was a joke - it was all over the place. They obviously weren’t aiming for cinema verite here.

Shooting at the kids was also a joke - to show how incredibly over-the-top Little Chubby’s meanness was. It was also another example of the world these people live in - shooting at kids like that was bad, but nobody found it particularly out of the ordinary or was about to report it to the police or anything. Joy, their mother, noted it and was upset about it, but it wasn’t too far out of the norm (no pun intended) even for her.

My husband and I could barely breathe from laughing so hard at this episode. If (generic) you don’t get the humour in the show, sure, stop watching it. Just because you don’t get the humour doesn’t mean it wasn’t there.

What did Chubby say to Crabman when the Aboriginal ran by and stagged his arrow?

Personally, I never miss an episode of “Ow! My Balls!”

We also found out that Darnell is an expert archer.

Count me in with the people who thought this was a weak episode. We DID get to see Catalina in a bikini - any episode with Catalina in a bikini isn’t all bad!
