"My Name is Earl" -- 5/14/2009 episode

What did you think of last night’s episode?

I think the “cliffhanger” ending was a little weird, considering that the show might not be renewed. Not that Earl Jr.'s paternity is a burning question that will keep me up nights if it doesn’t get answered.

I thought the episode was funny, especially compared to the last few. Loved Little Chubby’s insistence that he can still have kids, even with bull balls: “It might end up being a Minotaur, but I’d love it just the same.”

Randy: “Burn.”

I hope this show comes back, it is a bright spot of my week.

I love Norm Macdonald. What perfect casting as the son of Burt Reynolds.

“The bastard pulled a Castro on me.”

What would they put in its place, should it be canceled? They’ve already shitcanned Kath & Kim, so it wouldn’t be that.

Nooo!!! They’d better not cancel Earl, or there will be hell to pay, mister!

I love this show. Last night’s wasn’t as funny as some, but the pubic hair plucking was hilarious!

Thanks for telling me who that was playing Little Chubby, sigmagirl. I couldn’t place him, then promptly forgot to look it up. He did a very good imitation of Burt Reynolds.

Norm Macdonald’s been doing Burt Reynolds imitations since he was on SNL in the 90s (mostly on “celebrity Jeopardy”), and it’s always excellent.

This was not exactly my favorite episode of the season, but it had its moments. Norm McDonald is great as 'Little Chubby"!

I just hope that NBC does not cancel the show, or, if they do, it winds up getting picked up by FOX.

Little Chubby on Celebrity Jeopardy: One, Two, Three, Four,

I was wondering if Chubby faked his own death because I see a great opp for Burt Reynolds to come back. Even though it was just episodic guest appearance it was a great role:

“So c’mon down to Club Chubby where sweatpants are welcome and truckers shower for free!”

Have they mentioned Crabman’s sister before?

The only other black guy who’s ever been shown on the show as a Camdenite who’s not too old, too young, Joy’s half-brother (and he was just seen in a flashback) or Crabman’s dad (Danny Glover) is the African guy, Nescobar-A-Lop-Lop. I’d think that if Joy had shagged him they’d have mentioned it by now.

There seems to be some continuity errors with Crabman’s family and the whole Witness Protection storyline - we saw Crabman’s sister in the episode in which Earl helped them with their wedding. She came into the bathroom and hugged Joy mightily just before the ceremony.
“You’re getting boob-glitter all over my face!”
He also had family members at the rehearsal lunch at Chuckie Cheese. IIRC, it had to be a luncheon because so many of them were on probation (or house arrest?) and had to be back before dark.

We also saw Crabman’s grandmother in the COPS episode. She remarked to the cops and tv crew about all the people who came over to see her grandson’s plants.
If he was in the Witness Protection program, why are so many of his family members with him?

I’m not remembering her half-brother. Is he the brother of her half-sister Liberty?

In his grandmother’s case, she’s a woman in the witness protection program too. So maybe that’s true of the rest of his family.

It was in the Christmas episode with her parents. It was a flashback to when she was dating a black kid in High School and her father flipped out. She thought it was because he was a racist, but learned it’s because the black kid was her half-brother. (Not sure if he’s full or half to the sister she had the baby for.)

They retconned Crabman’s grandmother into the show. They showed her before they revealed he was a Rhodes scholar/celloist/CIA operative/etc., then evidently caught their goof and later said she wasn’t really his grandmother but another witness relocation person he bonded with.

Huh, I missed that about his (supposed) Grandmother.

I was really shocked with last week’s episode. I had thought that Crabman’s plan to kill and dispose of Catalina was going to turn out to be something he and Catalina had cooked up (ala Ricky and Ethel) to teach Joy (ala Lucy) a lesson, but apparently not.

Liked the show, especially the end. So Earl, Jr. might be Earl’s son? Only on this show!

I saw it coming that Joy’s first kid would turn out to be Earl’s. I didn’t see it coming that Earl Jr. might not be Darnell’s.

Has anyone (here or online) been keeping track of all of Earl’s list? Have they been consistent or has he ever reused numbers?

Are you kidding? They knew from the beginning that people would be keeping track. Here’s one listing.

Earl has been cancelled. According to Entertainment Weekly, the show’s producer is talking to Fox and ABC about picking it up.

NBC, karma will get you.
