Oh no! Well, I hope that it does get picked up by one of the other networks.
I have really enjoyed the show, with the exception of the “prison” episodes.
Stupid NBC executives! grumble grumble…

Was it ratings only? I thought the show was a hit, and Thursday has been an NBC stronghold for many years (The Office, 30 Rock, ER). Or did the cast want too much money?
Doesn’t say – they got the news because Ethan Supplee sent a Tweet that he’d gotten the call. I thought the ratings were pretty good too, and Jaime Pressly won an Emmy year before last.
Somebody on Wikipedia posted this today:
However, FOX are currently in the works of picking up My Name Is Earl for a fifth season to air from December 2009 - May 2010. Kevin Reilly, head of FOX says that they are working on this as they would have a better syndication package and that they haven’t got many comedy shows on the network. Kevin Reilly hopes the show to be succesful on FOX as it ‘would really show up NBC’ If the ratings prove a success the show may reach a sixth and possibly a seventh season.
It had been going up and down in the ratings, according to Wikipedia… It finished its first sean in 40th place, then went down to #58 for the second season. It finished the third season in 75th place, not suprisingly, probably due to the prison and coma story lines (my conjecture). It had recovered to #59 for its last season, though, almost as good as its second season.
I’m glad that Fox is enthusiastic about picking it up. I hope it gets another couple of seasons, and of course that means a bigger syndication package. Earl hasn’t even hit 100 episodes.
I blame Jay Leno. His new show is forcing some shows to cut their budgets and forcing other shows off the network entirely, like Earl.
Of everything that I watch, this is the only one officially canceled - but one other is likely a goner. Still, that is better than I do most years.
