My New Kitty! Pictures!

She’s fantastic! I especially loved the third picture, which made me laugh out loud. I like Fiona as well. She looks like she’s going to grow into it and become quite a lady. Congratulations!

…grumble grumble exactly what I came in here to say grumble grumble…

Emerald, because of those eyes. Call her Emma for short.

What a beautiful kitten!

I think she is Annie Jones. Check out this picture of Annie as a young girl -

the one with her with long hair, wearing the checkered dress. Your kitten looks very much like her.

A real beauty!!

We have had a couple of feral cats, one who turned out OK with us, but never showed himself to a visitor. He hung around us, but hated being picked up. One day, after, count 'em, twelve. years, he jumped up on my lap. I almost passed out.

He was tense as a spring, but let me pet him. After that, he did it often.

Many years before, was in a local A&P when somebody came up from the basement with a gunny sack full of snarling kittens. I asked to look at them, and picked out a beautiful tiger. They were destined for the river, I’m afriad, but the one I rescued was pretty wild for about a month. Then he turned out to be one of the most affectionate and loveable cats we ever had. Named him Pogo.

So, there’s always hope.

Absolutely adorable. I got a sort of a barbarian vibe from the long hair, like kitty’s in a fur coat or parka, so I’m going to suggest Brunhilda.

i just love the expression on her face in the 3rd pic

She looks like a **Tribble ** to me.

Sorry, boscibo, I hadn’t realized that I Godwinized your thread so early on and no discussion can continue after that. Do we make exceptions in cat threads?

Have you ever had a tortoiseshell cat before? As far as I can tell, there is a bit of extra congenital craziness that comes with a tortie. Ask any tortie owner - they’ll tell ya.

My vote is for Fiona.

Hell yes. I have two of them, and they drive me nuts! My pet deposit for my apartment is long gone, and they’re working on eating into the security deposit as well.

Oh yeah! My kitty Mia (here, here, here, here, and here.) is quite the nutty tortoise-shell as you can see. She is also a morning cat who will follow me around meowing incessently. If that doesn’t get your attention she’ll jump on you, lick your face, bite your nose or chin, stand on your shoulder, and knock over everything you are using. She is crazy, but I love her. She is my little mutt cat: tortie, calico, tiger, long hair and short hair (her bright white belly fur is long, her other fur is various lengths). I wouldn’t trade her for the world.

Oh, I also love Fiona for your new gorgeous kitty. I also think Sidonia, Ava, and Eva will work as well. Good luck on choosing a name. And post more kitty pictures!

I don’t know why, but that’s the funniest thing I’ve seen so far this week.

Well, thank you!

Me too! So another vote for some feminine variation on Adolph. Addie?

We have a tortie that looks a lot like your kitty–her name is Hazel. She’s a very sweet cat, but she’s a little monster sometimes too. I guess it’s a relief to hear that it’s the breed and not just her…

Some really pretty names there… but you know you’re gonna call her Spot!

Awwwwww!!! She’s so cuuuuute!! [/involuntary reaction post to kitten photos]

We Mehitabels are wild and beautiful untamed creatures. She reminds me of me when I was that age.

i once was an innocent kit/with a ribbon my neck to fit/and bells tied onto it/oh toujours gai toujours gai

My name is pronounced Meh-HIT-a-bell, but I admit it’s sort of fallen out of fashion despite my best efforts. Maybe an even older name–Bastet, the Egyptian cat goddess. Or something Victorian–Griselda or Grizabella. Or she does look like maybe she has a little Persian in her.

Had a tortoise-shell that looked just like her. We called her Fanny may. The only cat I ever had that made trilling sounds instead of purring.

I didn’t realize that torties had a reputation for being nutty. We have two torties, and they’re both certifiable (in their own unique ways, of course.) My husband’s cat is part Siamese as well, so she got a heaping helping of nutty. But they definitely are very sweet, affectionate cats too.
