Dang it, that’s what I forgot to say - my peach-and-grey tortie also makes trilling sounds, when she’s completely blissed out (usually caused by an extra-special-good lying on my chest).
Okay, fight my ignorance. What are trilling sounds? My Mia chirps like a bird when she sits in the window, is that the same thing?
I think Hazel does it–sort of like a half meow/half purr. It sounds like she’s rolling her Rs. Very cute, but she does it when she’s playing with her toys in the middle of the night, and waking up to “rrrrrrrrrrrrrrreow! rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreow! rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreow!” at 3 AM gets old.
Trilling, IMO, is more of a “rrrrrurrrrr, rrrriiirrrr” type sound. (It sounds sort of like a musical engine purring, but it can also be chirrups.) Not the Siamese “reow/rhiow” type call.
Doh! Hit submit, instead of preveiw. Was going to add, “reow” is just a meow with an accent.
Smokey will emit a little “mrrup” when jumping up onto things (bed, shelf, sink, whatever) Kind of like the “kiya” in karate.
Marty does this too. I like to think he’s just polite (he’s like that after all) and announcing himself.
The trilling Feather does is hard to describe; it’s like she’s purring, and she just gets so damned happy that her purring kicks up another notch. Trilling really is the best word for it - it kinda sounds like the noise Mowgli made in Gremlins".
That’s the best descrition of it I can think of. It’s very cute.
Junior the orange bolt of lightning who owns me now barks at things that aren’t there. Seriously he stares at the lamp and makes these little yips that almost sound like a small dog.
Oh yeah, Mia does that all the time when jumping on things or when I first start to pet her. Half meow, half purr. She talks all the time, we actually hold “meow” conversations, she’ll start and I’ll mock her. For some reason she looooooooves that. I have no idea what I’m saying though. If she’s in another room, she’ll start crying like she’s lost and I’ll call out to her “Mia, I’m in here!”. Soon enough, I hear the little bell on her collar, ching-ching-ching. She’s so goofy. I love her to pieces.
That funny, because my cat and I have conversations but she parrots my inflection. Or has a creepy habit of sounding like she’s actually answering. Something like “Kitty, do you want dinner?” Meah!
Call the kitty “fluffy” until you find a name to fit her personality.
Thanks for the name suggestions, I am pretty positive that her name will be…Isabel. I reserve the right to change it if it doesn’t fit her, but she is such a dainty, feminine cat that I think it does. I have a cousin named Annie so that name, sadly, was out. Plus the kitty does not really have a beard, that longish hair is her mane. The lighter cream color makes it stand out and look like a beard, but its not.
She has come a long way in the week I’ve had her here. She comes when I mew at her and no longer is afraid of me. She is very comfortable around me now - I couldn’t be more pleased at her progress. She is turning into a very nice housekitty.
She looks so dignified. Perhaps a name like Queen Isabella would work?
Yep, that’s it. My sister can immitate it perfectly. Two of our cats do this-Maggie and Noel. It’s the sweetest little thing.
It sounds almost like a pigeon cooing. I call Maggie “My little pigeon” when she does it.
Isabel is a pretty name. For a pretty little kitty. Give her a scritch for me.
