My new novel, homage/satire/love-letter to ASOIAF/Game of Thrones/internet-fandom is out!

My new novel, “The Pen is Mightier”, an homage/satire/love-letter to GRRM’s “A Song of Ice and Fire”, TV Show “Game of Thrones”, the internet fandom of both, and the author himself, is out.

I’m so excited! I’ve been working on it for more than a year, and it’s finally for sale. Here’s the back cover blurb:

<<<
College student Sedrick Weir is the biggest fan of the brutal fantasy epic, ‘Those Accursed Chronicles’. Its author, Paul Breston, has created a unique series of novels rife with debauchery and betrayal, in which no character is safe.

Through a miraculous fluke, Sed is transported into the mythic world he loves so much. When he returns to his own world, he must convince Paul that his imagined realm actually exists. And if that world is real, can Paul keep killing people who are no longer merely fictional? Must Sed’s favorite characters really have to die?

Both satire and homage, ‘The Pen is Mightier’ is a love-letter to one of the most popular series and television programs in the fantasy genre.

For any John Scalzi fans, this book is sort of like “Red Shirts”, except it lovingly mocks George R. R. Martin’s series ASOIAF and the TV adaptation instead of Star Trek.

The book went through several revisions. A couple of Dopers were among my beta readers, and their input was invaluable (feel free to identify yourselves, or not, as you prefer).

“The Pen is Mightier” is my second novel. The ebook is for sale ($3.99) at Amazon here, and at Smashwords here. Multiple formats are available. You can check other online retailers as well. The paperback ($14.99) is for sale here. The book is accessible to anyone who enjoys fantasy, while including several references and jokes that ASOIAF and GoT fans will love (hopefully!). Some of my beta readers had not read or seen the ASOIAF books or TV show and still enjoyed it very much.

My first novel, an unrelated fantasy adventure called “Sailor of the Skysea”, is available here.

Now back to work on #3.

Wow, that’s great. Congrats!!

Is there an SDMB discount?

Thanks so much! I’m very nervous and excited!

The book blogger “The Gal in the Blue Mask” just told me she was planning a book spotlight for my book! I continue to be nervous and excited!

I had no idea you were a writer. That is way cool, and the summary sounds very intriguing. I believe I will give it a read.

Thanks, Stratocaster! I hope you enjoy it.

I bought a copy!

Thanks Trinopus! Enjoy

Me too

I like the sound of your premise so much that I have bought a copy. This despite the fact that it is “an homage/satire/love-letter to” a genre of fiction that I regard with slightly less fondness than a root canal.

I hope I enjoy it but even if I don’t I am probably your most devoted Australian fan. So far.

Thanks so much Attack and don’t ask. I hope you enjoy the book!

Glad to see it is finally available for sale. Will be picking up two copies shortly. Curious to see what adjustments were made from the beta version that I read. Beta version was a very fun read. Book was hard to put down.

Just bought a copy for Kindle. I love ASofIaF and I love snark/humor. Win/Win.
ETA: I just realized this is the second novel of yours I’ve bought, one more and I can start making demands

Thanks for the kind words Ace331! I hope you enjoy the updates.

And thank you G0sp3l – enjoy!

The “book spotlight” for my book is up at the book blog “The Gal in the Blue Mask”! My excitement continues!

Congrats, iiandyiiii! I’ll pick up a copy. I’m not a fan of ASOIAF, but I like metafiction and I’m happy to support a fellow Doper author.

Congrats, iiandyiii, I wish you every success!

Thanks, Infovore and Evil Captor!

Although I’m sure I am missing most of the references I’m finding it a rollicking read. A few laugh out loud moments help. Now if I can just find a TPiM Wiki

Wonderful! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it! I look forward to your thoughts when you’re finished.
