Actually, everyone in the MMP thread is telling me I’m being over-sensitive. Maybe I am. I don’t think anyone would actually reprimand me for wearing them to work, but somehow wearing high-heeled knee-length boots makes me feel somewhat, er, looser than I normally do, and that’s not the best mindset to be in whilst teaching.
Heh-heh…they used to be the sure sign of a wild woman, but I sure see a lot of boots and short skirts these days. I do it without a second thought. Depending on the boot, of course. Some have “troubled slut” written all over 'em. Like these, for instance: http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/30928767/c/3.html
This thread is terrible. I’m seeing so many boots that I want for mine own. I could always just not eat for a week. Who needs food when you have boots?
Being a dainty flower of femininity, I couldn’t help myself - I had to order these. Oh yeah, I’m a real girly girl. I expect them to result in terminal happy feet.
Looking at boots requires great discipline so usually I only go looking for them when I know I have to replace an aged pair. Sadly my 25-yr old London Boots favourite ankle boots have finally given up the ghost. And since I am feeling a bit down in the dumps, I thought I’d cheer myself up with some online boot-shopping.
These are currently winging their way to my office…although I still have my eye on these for those days when nothing below the knee will do.
Ooh, I just got new shoes, too. They’re completely the opposite of boots, though. Red Mary Janes on my feet. (Also pictured are my favorite blue jeans, which bear evidence to the fact that I while I am capable of shortening my jeans, I am too lazy to do so.) They are by Lands’ End, and I bought them for a whopping $1.75 at a thrift shop, new and never worn. I originally bought them because they’re good enough to pass for a bunch of historical periods, but I love them so much I’m wearing them everywhere.
They are very comfortable, especially considering the 4" height. Cute with jeans. Better with a skirt
My only complaint is that the back strap tends to slide down. I’m going to see if super glue will help.
Please don’t take this the wrong way. I understand that women love shoes and purses, and I know that they loathe more of them than they like (uh, maybe). That said:
I found the shoes linked to in the OP to be absolutely hideous. I would never, ever, say as much to someone wearing them, but I would think it.
Based on the wide difference between my opinion, and those of other Dopers (plus the fact that I lack any fashion sense at all), is there any way for a guy to get a sense of what’s hot and what’s not in fashion? I say this only out of my own sense of diplomacy, I might still find something abhorrent, but I’d like to know how to tell a white lie should the need arise.
I’m not only ignorant in regard to womens footwear, it seems I’m also ignorant as far as Men’s footwear is concerned. I find almost all of Steve Madden’s sneakers to be super fugly.
I just can’t get behind the idea of certain fashion trends. Some I like, and might even adhere to, but most just seem different for the sake of being different.
All I know, is what I think looks good, and what I think doesn’t. This makes it hard for me to either lie about how much I like a person’s clothing, or telling them flat out that I think they look ridiculous. Relative silence has been working for me recently, but I dread any inquisition about my actual thoughts.
Lionne, the way those shoes appear to be made, they wouldn’t give me any trouble sliding down. However, you can try a trick I do with my slingbacks that do slide off my heal. I slip a thin leather cord under the strap and tie it around my ankle. That way, it won’t slip down.
Dnooman, I think it helps to picture the woman in the boots. She matches it with a nice outfit, and she looks so sexy walking and standing in the shoes…she has to bring out the hotness of the shoe.
Any ol’ woman can’t just pull that boot off…it has to be a cool cat to pull it off.
