My nose hurts.

This is the weirdest damn thing! If I didn’t know better, I’d say that someone hit me in the nose or that I smacked my face into something … but, prone as I am to mystery bruises and scratches, I like to think that I’d remember doing something to my nose. I have absolutely no idea why it would suddenly hurt like this.

The very end of the bone hurts, like a bruise. I noticed it last week, but it went away after a couple of days so I didn’t think anything of it. But now it’s back! It was a little sore all weekend, and now it’s a little red – looks like the remains of a sunburn. And I think it might be a little swollen, too (I’m not sure whether it’s actually swollen, or whether I’m getting hypochondriacal and just think it looks swollen … know what I mean?). And the pain is starting to make other things hurt, like my teeth and head. (This would be the perfect time for someone to try the old “does your face hurt?” insult, because I could finally say YES!)

Maybe something bit me. I’ve been bitten before, though, and it might make the skin a little sore but I’ve never felt like my bone was bruised. I’ve never been whacked in the nose, but I’m starting to think that I know what it feels like! Worst of all, this would be an exceedingly stupid thing to call a doctor about. “Spontaneous nose soreness?” :dubious: I’d have the appointment person at Kaiser Permanente laughing for days (after she put a note on my file, of course)!

Anyway, my nose hurts, and it’s bugging me, so I’m posting about it here (and taking more Aleve).

Ouch. :frowning:

Just a WAG… Possibly a pimple forming deeper than normal in your nose???

I’ve never gotten a pimple on my nose before, and the rest of my skin is the clearest now that it’s been in years (about damn time, too!). I guess there’s a first time for everything, but I’m beginning to believe that someone snuck into my house and whacked me in the nose while I was sleeping.

Yeah, that’s it.
(Actually, it’s not impossible that whatever happened took place while I was sleeping: I sleep on my stomach, with my hands near my face, and have been known to scratch my face in my sleep. Maybe one night I slept on my hands in a way that smushed my nose, but I didn’t notice/remember when I woke up?)

I once punched myself in the nose (really hard) while sleeping. I woke up with blood over everything, and developed a slight black eye. That was fun to explain…

A likely possibility. When I was growing up, one of my sisters was plagued with terrible nighttime nosebleeds. We never knew what caused it. Until I (an insomniac) started sharing a room with her. Lying awake at night with nothing to do but stare at her, I discovered the cause. She would rub her nose REALLY HARD in her sleep, probably because she had allergies and they made her nose itch. In fact, she would rub it so hard that I was surprised she didn’t break her nose clean off. Despite the fact that she would never have done such a thing while awake, the pain did not wake her up.

I’d bet this is the source of the problem.
