My one infraction and personal history

I’m a little tired of seeing my one infraction for “being a jerk” in an NFL thread from five years ago. Why should this “never expire”? My peevishness was over some guy continually calling football fans “unmanly” for complaining about the reffing (while, natch, complaining about the refs himself).

I don’t really care about a warning itself by why should it never expire? I mean, in five years people can do time for real crimes and have their record expunged.

Interestingly enough I can tell you a lot about the day following this warning. It was a Monday. The big earthquake happened in Haiti. I learned that a colleague of mine (in her mid 30s) had died over the weekend, alone in her apartment, which we found out later was due to a pulmonary embolism. And we learned for sure that my wife was pregnant, which we suspected, and that the baby was still viable, which was a bigger surprise after a rough morning and previous experience.

That kid is almost five now. He’s still with me too.

Wear it with honor!!

Out of curiosity (and because I don’t want to find out the hard way), where do you see this?

My User Control Panel.

No one else can see it publically. I’d wager it’s presence is a reminder for you. My question is what do you look at in your control panel that you need to visit it so often?

In 16 years I’ve probably looked at my CP 10 times.

Someone recently said that they go there to do a search on all of their recent posts so that they won’t forget those threads that they have and still want to participate in.

I’ve been on the board for over ten years and have one “warning.” Keeping that in mind, of what do I need reminding?

I use the control panel to view my subscribed threads.

I used to think you were OK, until you let it slip about having received a Warning here. Now, well…let’s just say, henceforth I’m keeping an eye on you.

And you can forget about marrying my daughter.

crossing my arms on my chest; turning my back in silence

Just checked, I also have one infraction/warning. I count it as a badge of honor and would make the same post today were the situation to repeat itself.

I think the not-purging part only happens if they can’t pronounce your name tnetennba tnetennba.

I went and checked the posts by the OP and MikeG and can’t see that any warning or infraction has happened so I’m betting it is strictly a user-visible thing. But – five years is a long time. Reminds me of grade school when my “permanent record” was threatened.

I just looked at mine and didn’t see anything. I don’t think I’ve gotten any warnings, so is there only a section for it if you’ve gotten one?

I use my “User CP” page all the time, since it has a list of threads I’m subscribed to that have received new posts. That’s how I keep up with threads I’m involved in. And I see my lone warning displayed there every timel.

“Personal insults” - IIRC, I called someone a waste of time in Great Debates.

I can live with that.

As I understand it, yeah. It’s not there until you receive a warning.

There should be a way for retiring moderators to grant pardons.

I’ve received two. In the immortal words of Bernie Taupin, I wear my war wounds like a crown.

Just be glad they abolished the Cone of Shame.

That’s right, man, you better wear anything from me like a badge.

Kidding. I was surprised to even see it was from me.

Hey, at least your warning was for something you actually did. Mine wasn’t, but it’ll still be there forever.
