My religous nutball friend-very sad update

A while ago I posted a couple threads about a very good friend of mine who, to put it mildly, GOT RELIGION!!!

This did not do good things for our friendship.

My friend, T, is still apparently something of a nutball. I went back to ABQ last year but didn’t get to see him. He has had some problems.

First, before he got religion*, he was married and had some kids. They got divorced. He then hooked up with another woman (which is itself a rather long twisted story, his wife is my half sisters half sister**) and had some more kids, including twins. One of the twins died. The woman he married has a sister who is totally out of it due to drug use. The sister had a couple kids. T and his wife ended up taking in the kids from the wifes sister. T’s wife also had another kid or three. They ended up with ~13 (I think it is 13, it is hard to keep track) kids, including the kids from his first marriage, in the house.

T was working on expanding his house to hold all these kids. He managed to cut off a couple fingers with a circular saw. Ts wife was working but T couldn’t due to the fingers being gone and ended up taking handouts from various places, including his church. The situation even apparently made it on to the local evening news.

Well, T is apparently started working at something again. I have no idea what. I do know that he got a lot of help from his church while he was recovering, which is something I do admire.

I got a call last week from my sister. Ts youngest son killed himself. The kid was ~19 and living with his birth mother. Somehow Ts present wife went over and found the young man dead. He hung himself.

That is bad. Very, very bad. Incredibly bad.

Today I found out that Ts father died. They found out that Ts father died because his father did not make the funeral for Ts son. Someone went to check on Ts father and found him dead.

I don’t know how Ts Dad died yet. My guess is an age related problem, not suicide but you never know.

I emailed (don’t have his phone number) T and his wife my condolences. I haven’t talked to the man in years, but due to the fact that he is married to my sisters sister I do get updates all the time. I do not know if T is still super religious or not. If he is I am starting to wonder if G*d is doing a Job kinda thing on T. It sure seems that way.

I hope my letter is received well. I really do like the guy even though he got a bit nuts for a while.

*No offense intended to those who believe. I have no problem with that. I do, however have a problem with nutballs.

**For some reason this usually confuses people. My sister is a half sister on my Dads side. Her Mom married someone else and had another bunch of kids. T married my sisters sister from her Mom, who is no relation to me. Yeah, it is a tangled web…

What a tragic story. I suspect his religion will provide him with comfort and strength at such a difficult time. Which is ironic, I guess.

Hopefully friends and family, regardless of religious affliation, will be there to help them through this really crappy time.

Boy, you think that someone who followed the teachings of a carpenter would be a bit better with tools…

Just kidding though, that’s a great deal of shit to have come down on one’s head all at once, I hope the guy is alright.

Reading this story, the first thing I thought of was “It’s Job!”

I’m so going to hell…I hope things turn around for him. Yikes.

Sadly, one of my first thoughts was “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” candidate. Is that show even still on?

Regardless of whether or not he’s a nutball, that’s a lot of sad news all piled on top of each other. I hope things start to turn around for him!
