However, him and I share the same computer, for one. So our IPs would obviously match.
Second, he isn’t really as internet “savvy” as I am…and he has trouble knowing how to do things online, so he asked me to make his account for him (He gave me the name to regester).
He probably won’t be making many posts, but I read SD topics to him a LOT, and there’s one he’d like to reply to. However, other than that one post and a couple here and there, he’d probably just be a major lurker.
So really, I’m asking is this okay? To make the account for him and for him to use it while I use this one on the same comp?
I’ll second imthjckaz. My husband and I have separate accounts, but frequently use the same computer. He actually got his account months before I did, and he’s the one who talked me into at least getting a Guest Account to see what it was like before I actually paid $$ to join.
We do, however, have separate e-mail accounts. (I definitely DON’T want to read the e-mail he gets from his old girlfriends, and my Yahoo!Groups e-mail would bore him to death.) And we have separate WinXP user accounts on the computer that we sometimes share, so we don’t have to share cookies.
Well, yeah, I knew that (that other couples used the same computer)…but the main issue I was asking about is that he wanted me to make the account for him.
I didn’t know if that was allowed or not, cause there’s a rule about making multiple accounts. Although I know that means more or less about making another account that YOU, yourself, use to post under, I didn’t want to take any chances and wanted not only to inform the staff here about it, but also ask if it was okay in the first place. Just better safe than sorry.
I’m not tubadiva, but if two people share a computer and post here, and neither of them acts like a jerk, you slip under the radar. We don’t care. We certainly appreciate someone telling us the situation in case there is a problem.
We don’t sit around trying to find out who’s who. It usually only comes up when someone goes off the rails and becomes a jerk. Then we might investigate.
But we know you guys are not gonna be a problem. Right? Right?
Samclem- hijack…but look at what post number that is of yours. 6699999. goes to see who had 6700000
Anyway, I don’t know if he’ll be a jerk or not. Ha. I’d like to hope he wouldn’t. It’s doubtful. If I can live with him, he must have a low jerk tolerance.
We hope your roommate enjoys his time with us and even becomes a subscribing member.
The only thing is, y’all have to be careful to each sign out of the board after you’re done reading, otherwise, the other person’s posts will appear under the wrong screen name, which is not cool.
Otherwise, no problem. Yes, you can create a screen name for your roommate; you’re creating it for him and not for yourself, so you’re not socking. Unless of course this is your imaginary roommate, at which point all bets are off and the SDMB is the least of your troubles.
