The cops have the name of the suspect. When (if) they capture him, a conviction will apparently depend on tricking or breaking him in interrogation. There is a lack of physical evidence such as fingerprints, and of course the murderer is the only eyewitness. Circumstantial evidence is strong, but likely still not strong enough to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. Sadly, this may go down as (technically) an unsolved crime.
