Dear Abby ran a letter from SpazTown today (the one about nail polish). It’s currently sitting in the file until I can think of something to say about it. In the meantime, here is some snark for you. The People.
Hi Soapy!
In other news: No comment.
((((Ivory))))
Hm. Mr. Lissar’s brother phoned an hour ago, and asked him to meet at the local Tim Horton’s right then. I told Mr. Lissar to make him come back here. No sign of them. Hmm.
I feel better, have eaten chicken soup (the all-clear-liquids diet has made me starving), and think I should be all better by tomorrow. I’m making chili (not for me) and wondering when my husband and BiL will be here.
The pies are bakin’, the cabbage casserole is ready to go in the oven, the N.O.T. are peeled and diced and the carrots are peeled and sliced. Progress! Plus I did have a nappy poo. Go Me!
Yay Agony Aunt Ryl!
We quit, at least for today. I was trying to organize my studio. **FCD **was trying to organize the garage. The kids are organizing their crap. I may go down there to futz around some more later, but for now, we quit. At the very least, I’ll clear the way to the furnace for the nice furnace man on Thursday.
SIL’s mother is in Baltimore visiting a friend - I’m not sure why she didn’t tell him earlier that she was coming. The kids are talking about maybe getting her to meet then halfway for dinner. We shall see how that goes.
I kinda hope they go - they **FCD **and I can have a quiet evening together alone.
Apparently the kids are driving to Baltimore (White Marsh, actually) to dine with Florida mom. She offered to pay for their gas, and they don’t mind driving. So there it is.
Dinner is in the oven…
Sock Lady’s German Potato Salad
5 or 6 medium potatoes
1lb little smokies or other smoked sausage
1/3 cup oil
1/3 cup vinegar
2 Tbsp Sugar
Slice potatoes thinly with or without removing the skin. Cut little smokies in thirds. Place in crockpot/dutch oven/pressure cooker. Make dressing from the bottom three ingredients. Stir dressing into potato mixture. Cook/bake/pressurize until done. (Normally I do this in a pressure cooker, but there isn’t one here so I’ve got it in the oven. I’m starting it out for 1/2 hour at 400F and then reducing to 350F and stirring every half hour. Sock Lady says it should take about 1 hour.)
Warning: Do not eat a large gladware container full of approximately 3 cups of this as I did one day for breakfast. You will be ill thereafter.
Forgot to mention I am now watching Gosford Park, one of my favorite movies.
Brother and kids will be here in about 1/2 an hour. I’m almost done cleaning.
Coincidence?
GT
gt nuttin’ like company comin’ to get the place spiffed up right?
Once company gets here, I’ll cook the N.O.T. and bake the cornbread. Everything else is done and can be heated up. How ever did we live without microwave ovens!
JoeDawg’s daddy and partner are bringing a nummy avacado dip and some of those rosemary/olive oil Triscuits for the appetizer. Wine is chillin’ to sip whilst we have appetizers. Sounds all growed up and couth don’t it!
The couthiest.
The flavoured triscuits are evilly tasty.
Mr. Lissar and a friend are out buying me pho. I hope they get back soon. STARVING.
I am home. Martinis are deployed. I foresee [del]Hulu[/del] hockey in my future. It’s a glorious 55 degrees Amurikin outside.
swampy, they have an ointment for the couth, ya know.
Spaz, my Uncle Mike and Aunt Mary(who brought pie) are touring the U.S. in an RV. I should send them your column.
Glad you’re a little bit better, LiLi. Someday I may go to a Tim Horton’s.
Shelli, don’t worry, I’m completely lost and confused, too. That’s why I made management.
Herbs, I own a cane, just so I can wave it at the hooligans on my lawn. I didn’t drive for a year once. Not bad, if you don’t mind taking 2 hours to go 3 miles.
Yeah, now that you mention it, I didn’t drive for something like a year, once, too. Well, dinner has been consumed. I kinda botched the preparation, though, because I basically tripled the recipe but only doubled the sauce. So, it could have been a little bit tastier.
We went to Bert’s for a quick supper, and now we’re home in the chill mode. I’m about to shower and don my lounging sweats. Life is good…
I was bad. I didn’t paint.
I did laundry and watched The Food Network. I bathed the dogs when we got back from the park, though.
Mr Rebo talked me into opening my birthday present early. (The pots and pans!) They are so purty! I called ReboSon to tell him he can come get my old set.
I made etouffee for dinner in my new pots. How nice that they are all flat on the bottom and don’t spin around! Even heat is awesome!
We’re watching the Texas Longhorns kick Missouri’s ass. No doubt who’s number one in the country! Woo-hoo!
I need a brownie…
I need a browinie, too, but instead I had some chicken wings
Well, we didn’t get out to Michaels today. Doggio is right - the thing with traveling via public transit is that it takes forever to get anywhere. I was up early this morning, but went back to sleep, and didn’t get up again until after 10:30 am. Which is just outside of the window of opportunity to make the trek to Michaels. At any rate, my daughter is going to head out there on Monday probably. We both need more yarn!
Aww, glad to hear that you’re putting the birthday present to such great use, Rebo! Isn’t it nice to have new pots and pans?!
Tomorrow I’m putting a corned beef brisket into my crock pot and we’ll have cabbage, potatoes, onions and carrots in there with it. This is the first really cool weather, so it should be a good dinner. FCM, I think I might make a lasagna tomorrow as well. I saw a recipe for a short-cut lasagne on the Today show many years ago, tried it, and it’s not bad! Instead of lasagne noodles, you use ravioli patties; you can get them frozen, filled with ricotta cheese; you don’t even cook them, just layer them over your sauce. I add my own ricotta mixture, a little bit, and then mozzerella. I’ve even experimented with adding other stuff like mushrooms and veggies; it’s all good.
Tonight I’m just chillin’ out and drinking some herb tea.
I made brownies tonight…
**tarra **- when my daughter and I were making the lasagne, she asked if it could be made with ravioli. I laughed at the idea, but apparently, I laughted too soon. Live and learn…
