My sorta yacht-y MMP

This invite is for you and any other Mumpers who come to Merrylande - give us enough notice and we’ll happily take you out sailing on the Chesapeake. Just ask welby!

Another break. I mudded and taped the stairwell. Once the sanding is done, we’ll install the door at the bottom and the trim along the base. I’d also like a small window in there to let some light in - even if it’s just glass blocks. That’s on the list of stuff to be done.

I was going to ride the mower around the back yard, but the battery was d-e-a-d. It’s charging right now but I probably won’t mow till tomorrow. **FCD **and daughter installed the final door, and now they’re putting the base molding in the living room. As soon as that’s down, they can get the rest of their junk from the garage and we can organize it so that we can park inside again. YAY!

No idea what we’ll do for supper. I’m too tired to cook. Death chicken tomorrow. I didn’t accomplish near as much as I’d hoped today, but it’s my day off - I think I did just fine. Go me.

Y’all work too hard, dammit. I’ve managed to shower, feed the dog, feed the fish, and do a load of laundry.

taxi, that’s some scary stuff! Hopefully the cops are able to catch the guy(s) soon - glad that the women managed to break free, at least.

Here’s the recipe for the pumpkin buns:

Pumpkin Cinnamon Buns
1 package dry yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
1/4 cup warm water (100° to 110°)
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cups canned pumpkin
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 tbsp sugar
1 1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp each ground nutmeg and cardamom
3 tbsp butter, softened
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp cinnamon
1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)

To prepare the buns, dissolve yeast in warm water in a small bowl; let stand for 5 minutes. Mixture should be foamy (if not, your yeast is no longer good - toss it out and start again with a fresh packet).
In a large bowl, mix together 2 cups flour, pumpkin, milk, melted butter, sugar, salt, and spices; stir in yeast mixture and continue stirring until evenly mixed. Turn dough out onto a floured surface. Turn out onto a floured surface and begin kneading; as you go, add the remaining 3/4 cup of flour, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough is soft and elastic (it should feel a bit tacky, but shouldn’t stick to your hands).
Place the dough in a large bowl that has been lightly oiled, turning to coat top. Cover and let rise in a warm draft-free place for 45 minutes or until doubled in size.
Meanwhile, prepare the cinnamon filling by stirring together the softened butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract and cinnamon in a small bowl until smooth. Set aside.
Punch dough down; cover and let rest for 5 minutes. Roll the dough into a 12 x 10-inch rectangle on a floured surface. Spread the cinnamon mixture in a thin layer over the dough and sprinkle evenly with the chopped pecans, if using.
Roll up the rectangle tightly, starting with a long edge, pressing firmly to get rid of any air pockets; pinch seam and ends to seal. Cut roll into 12 (1-inch) slices. Place slices in a lightly buttered 9-inch square pan. Cover and let rise 25 minutes or until doubled in size.
Preheat oven to 375°. Bake rolls for 20 minutes or until golden brown. If frosting, allow to cool for 15 minutes before drizzling with Caramel Icing.
//

We ate them unglazed because The Boy prefers his cinnamon buns on the not-so-sweet side… but if you’ve got a sweet tooth and can manage to wait until the buns are cooled enough to frost, then make a batch of this and drizzle over the buns before serving:

Caramel Frosting
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
2 tbsp milk
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Dash salt
1/2 to 3/4 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar

In small saucepan, heat butter until melted. Stir in brown sugar and milk; cook over medium low heat 1 minute. Transfer to small mixer bowl and set aside to cool.
Once cooled, stir in vanilla, salt, and confectioners’ sugar. Beat with electric mixer until well blended, adding more confectioner’s sugar as needed until desired consistency is reached.

…and on that note, off I go to start on my Thanksgiving dinner. I’m drooling already, and all we’ve done so far is cook custard for the ice cream.

Pumpkin Buns have been added to the blog…they sound yummy.

That sounds scary, taxi. Hope it’s one of those one-off things that won’t happen again anywhere nearby.

Are you sure you don’t want to come over and help me with my DIY stuff, FCM? Wish I were more talented in that department. I’m willing to tackle a whole lot of jobs, but they’re never as perfect as I’d like.

Sounds like day 1 was fun, swampy. Yay!

Went to Barnes & Noble and Target and grocery. Decided it would be movie night. Frozen pizza and beer will accompany the Gwyneth Paltrow version of Emma and a movie to be named later.

I’ve started clearing out paint-related stuff and emptied the dishwasher, so I haven’t been completely unproductive.

Off to hang out on the couch.

GT

 Holy crap! I haven’t thought of that thing in* years*. 30 years ago I went to the theater 7 times to drool over Frampton and rock out to Aerosmith. I’ve not seen it since.
::adds to Netflix queue::

Walls we could watch it together and do Geritol[sup]TM[/sup] shooters!

Ok, supper et and dishes all put away. Peas and squash cooked even. Ima go make my lunch for tomorrow (turkey sammich and the rest of the layered sallit), mayhaps have an adult beverage and snuggle down in bed afterwards.

Y’all behave and have a good night!

Behave?! You want us to behave? That’s a tall order…

I am clearly not behaving… I need to price out this meal including about 13 different appetizers by tomorrow.

I guess I’d better go.

I refuse to behave. Instead, I am sipping…a beerverage.

Thank you for not mentioning Donald Pleasance in that list. That was the first time I’d seen him with hair and the nightmares will last me a lifetime.

Although watching George Burns move stiffly to “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” was worth every minute of the rest of the movie.

If I were sipping a beerverage I wouldn’t be able to see straight right now. But I’m almost done. It’s looking like $13.95 per person plus $900 labor for servers, etc. (Keep in mind this is around 225 people.)

And the menu is as follows:

Chicken Fingers
Tofu Satays
Curried Apples
La Bouche
Quiche Squares
Salmon and Dill Dip
Barbecue Meatballs
Teriyaki Meatballs
Mini Turkey Sandwiches on Croissants
Mini Pulled Pork Sandwiches
Crudites
Cheese and Cracker Display
Fruit Display
Dessert Display
Pretzels and Chex Mix
Coffee and Punch

Shrimp Cocktail Shooters Optional for an additional $4 per person.

Whew!

Sounds yummy, Pie. Am I invited?

Off to beddie-bye.

GT

Of course, GT! You can be there about two hours early, black pants, white shirt, and comfortable walking shoes. Yeah, that’s my only concern, finding enough servers because this is a weeknight event starting at 4 p.m. I forsee many family members being drafted for this cause.

OMG am I tired this morning. I didn’t really go to bed too much later than usual, but the amount of brain power that I expended has worn me out. Not to mention that I have pulled some kind of muscle in the middle of my chest and it’s very ouchy. It should be interesting preparing lunches today.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. YAWN

CutiePie that sounds nummy! What’s a shrimp cocktail shooter?

If’n I get waked up enough I think I’ll peel and dice N.O.T. for tonight. Or not. We shall see.

Ok, need more caffiene definitely. Plus brekkies.

Later Y’all!

Got up half an hour ago. Blurf.

Are you my mother?? She employed (employs?) my sibs and sibs-in-law, sometimes their friends, niece, nephew, and a bunch of her retired and/or widowed friends for various events she catered (caters.) I was never recruited because mostly I was living in Florida, and even now, I live over 2 hours away, so unless she was in a *real *pinch, she’d not even ask me.

I use the past (present) verbs because while theoretically she’s retired from catering, she’ll still do parties for a select clientele, mostly church-related or some long-time clients. For all that she’s nearly 75, she still loves doing it, and I expect as long as she can lift a tray or a cooler, she’ll keep doing it. At least she’s not one of those widows who sits around watching the world go by.

And yes, I’m up way too early on my last day off of this mini-break. I though about going back to bed, but it ain’t gonna happen. So I’ve got the dishwasher running and I’m about to start caffeinating. My first project today is to hang the ceiling fan in the living room. Then I’ll take some pics since you’ve not seen the almost-final product. I should probably charge the batteries first.

SIL has school today so he’ll be leaving around 10 and I’ll have to plan projects I can do alone. No sweat. I’m going to make Death Chicken for supper and maybe run the vacuum. I might even dust a room or 2.:eek::eek: We’ll see how it goes.

Happy Tuesday!!

A redneck with a scoped .22 at 25 yards?

Blurf.

Big story coming about ambulance duty Firday night, and EMT class Sunday.

What is it about the miracle of a shower? Taken at night, it’s relaxing, removing the cares of the day and preparing you for a blissful slumber. Taken in the morning, it wakes you up and gets you charged for the day ahead. Magic!

Yep, I just showered and I feel ready to take on the world. But first I think I’ll go find some breakfast. SIL is still asleep, so I can’t do any work downstairs. And I’m hongry!! I’m going to ride down into Leonardtown and see what I can find.

Laterz!!!

Hiya Swampy!

I’m all grumpy today because I’ve got an ingrown toenail. And the dog stepped on it twice this morning. Stoopid dog.

Howdy everybody. Boat shows are fun, sounds like you had a good time.

I purchased 1.5 bushels of apples this weekend. Yay me.
