I got us all registered to vote today. Which is good since it’s the last day to register (other than registerin on election day). Whew!
Sounds like a busy weekend bobbio! Glad you eventually got the catfish at least.
Even if Taz is sad, FCM, at least you have a way to separate kitties. We’d love to adopt another cat (The Humane Society and other shelters are desperate for homes for their kitties.), but Lily really doesn’t do well with other cats around, and we don’t have any way to divide the house into two separate cat zones.
LiLi, would you make Giada’s squash pizza for me? It sounds really good, but it also sounds kind of like a PITA, and I don’t really have time for making something that’s a PITA. (Now, if it uses pitas, that’s a whole different story!) kthxbye
Howdy to Rigs, hope all is well with you. And howdy to kai as well, who hopefully is relaxing and enjoying time with her younger daughter and family. I saw a commercial for Vaseline lotion set on Kodiak island and I thought of you, kai! And hugs to Haze if she might be browsing the SDMB–miss you and thinking of you!
CutiePie, I’d love to be able to help you cater; wish I was in your area to do so. That menu sounds so good.
BBBBobbio, thanks for the stories you share. I hope to get down there to the Tidewater area sometime in the next year or so, esp. since I missed my Uncle’s funeral.
I am so glad that it’s Tuesday and not Monday. LOL Carry on …
The house smells wunnerful!!! The Death Chicken smells soooooooo gooooooood. I need to make some veggie sides - something green, I guess. 20 more minutes.
It made me think that guy thinks all white people are Republicans.
Bobbio, your EMT stories make the backs of my hands hurt, especially with the arterial bleeding.
Cool, a pickup truck hit a schoolbus down the street from my house! (I’m watching the local news–no one was badly hurt it sounds like.) And it’s going to get cold soon!
Death Chicken has been inhaled and declared worthy of being added to the rotation. Honest-to-goodness, I can’t believe all we had left is one thigh and a serving of rice. You’d think no one ate all day!! I did determine that I need to buy a better brand of bacon - the one I got was waaaaaaaaaaaay too fatty - ick.
And thus endeth my long weekend. Back to the office tomorrow. Alas.
I’m happy to offer babysitting services in exchange for food, though. Seriously. You of all people should know there aren’t too many things I won’t do in exchange for food.
FCM, I can’t believe you guys put in a walk-in closet! I’m in covet mode at the moment - I wanted one when we were house-shopping, but got overridden on it because A Certain Someone felt that boring things like a sound foundation and good plumbing were more important. Feh.
Civic duty has been completed… on my way home from work, I scooted over to the local polling station and cast my vote for whoever gets to represent me for the next 4 years (hopefully, anyways).
We’ll see if I can manage to stay awake long enough to see who will have the responsibility of leading our nation through the upcoming economic crisis, but I suspect that my desire to get a full night’s sleep will win out and I’ll pack it in around 11pm. Canadian politics just aren’t interesting any more - it’s basically a battle between a shmuck, another shmuck and some guy with a funny mustache. Yawn.
I’ll babysit as long as you don’t mind covering my commuting costs, LiLi.
Wow, that sounds like a rather eventful weekend, Bobbio.
Hi rigs! How are things?
I’m disappointed that there’s no gelatin involved in the shrimp cocktail shooters, Pie.
Hi DogMom! What are you going to do with all those apples?
How long will it take for you to become a nurse, SB? (Do you have a nickname? I can’t remember…)
Tired. Decided not to move chairs out of the way of my steps yet. A couple of the spots still look damp. Maybe in the morning.
Considering what to do for dinner. Maybe the rest of last night’s pizza? With what on the side? Or on top, for that matter? Or maybe I’ll just make me a couple of quesadillas and find something to go on the side. Anyone want to bring me dinner?
Muppet - we knew how much clothing our daughter had, and even tho her husband doesn’t have as much, there was no question about at walk-in. I covet it also - we’ve got 2 regular closets in our bedroom, one which was stolen from the adjacent bedroom. They haven’t finished unpacking, so there is more crap to go in there.
Howdy Y’all! Dindin has been ingested. I is tahred. Ima make my lunch for tomorrow and then I think I’ll take a melatonin and go sleepy time way early.
Oh, I took another test today. Only made a hunnert on this one. Reckon I’m slippin’?
I’m keeping busy. I am addicted to political stuff now–although I think I may have reached saturation. I had some sort of fit earlier today: I took everything off all the kitchen counters and breakfast bar and scrubbed it and then polished it. Then I cleaned the kitchen windows! Truly, I am sick.
We put in a walk in closet when we built our master bedroom addition years ago. I’d like a closet system to help organize it, but that won’t happen now…
Not much else to say. I applied for that clinical nurse educator job–it was finally posted again. That was over a week ago and bupkus. I’m not sure I want it, but getting it would make our getting out of debt easier and faster and I could move on in certain aspects of my life which we all know about and are bored by.
I’ve told #1 and #2 son that we are only doing one Xmas present per kid this year. And stockings will be small. (I love Christmas and usually go a bit hog wild–not game platforms or new laptops, but 2-3 games and big Lego kits and clothes etc). Not this year.
My 401(k) dropped $20,000. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Or both.
As this is an MMP, I can ask this: here in Michigan, people on public assistance are living on $5.86 a day for food. I could live on canned beans & instant coffee, I guess.
How would you dopers live on $5.86/day? Also, what’s the average the poor in your states/countries live on?
I could probably manage for a little bit on that much a day. Dried beans, cheap veg, oatmeal.
Nat’s been crying on and off for the last two hours, but he may have just fallen asleep, so I might be able to sleep between now and three. Maybe. If he stays asleep.
Morning all! Yes, that includes you, Cupcake! See, I’m all the way across the pond, I’ve got to be safe from the wrath of VBob, right?
I had a busy day yesterday, then went to Fat Club which wasn’t such a resounding success - but I know I was naughty at the weekend since I was away and I’m hormonal so that won’t help either. There’s always next week…
Tonight we’re going out for beerverages so that will be fun. This weekend we’re at home with nothing much planned so I think I will be getting the recipe books out and seeing what looks good. I might have another go at Death Chicken but it will be a modified version because the original didn’t impress me that much.
Sorry to hear about the job stuff, rigs, maybe there’s something else out there just waiting for you?
In other news, someone’s coming to fix the guttering at the house today - so by the time I get home we’ll finally have a downpipe on the corner of the bedroom wall. Our neighbour swears up and down that he knows nothing about how it came to “disconnect” but the pipe is in his yard (behind locked gates) so he must have had something to do with it. Oh well, I’m sure it’ll come back and bite him in a later life.
Li-Li, if we move to Canada, will you come and cook for me?
Been a bit out of the loop, for no really good reason – just the holidays here getting to me, I guess, and making me feel a bit insular (we’re in the middle of a run of 22 days, 13 of which are full holidays or weekends, and 4 more are “Holiday Eves.” Not the most productive of months – nor very conducive to privacy!)
Have skimmed briefly and retained little – “boats” and “cupcake (:p)” is about it…
We finally got some rain overnight and a bit this morning, which is a good thing, and I suppose it could be seen as symbolic (since religious Jews pray for dew in the summer and for rain in the winter. The cutoff day between “summer” and “winter” prayers was yesterday… and it started raining :))
In completely other news, our cat, Silly, definitely knows how to open doors… :smack: He’ll stretch up to the handle, and put his weight on it.
The front door is now locked at all times…
